Janine, you can paint a big square or rectangle on the wall at the head of your bed, and it makes a faux hedboard...they do it all the time on HGTV...

see HERE are some other ideas

I thought you would like them since your font color is quite similar. [:D]

[:D][:D][:D] If I didn't have a fascination for decorating in red then I would use that color in my house

purejoy -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/5/2008 7:35:22 PM)

Ok, these colors stink but I did them quick. These are four wall options for the baby's room....I did them in Publisher and couldn't mix the right colors I wanted and don't have the time to spend to make them better. So use your imagination! [;)]

WALL OPTIONS

Bedding Set they will coordinate with.

Opinions?

ETA- Feel free to offer other suggestions, too!

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/5/2008 8:26:18 PM)

I'm assuming your green isn't going to be that Kelly Green, but will be more minty and probably a bit lighter? My opinions are based on the green being like Village Charm or Spring Pepper depending on what looks good with your fabric IRL.

Second Choice: I like the upside down version of the bottom right- high gloss white on bottom with green stripe (flat or satin) and cocoa (flat or satin) on top. I like this best for two reasons: 1. I think the Cocoa is beautiful and is the color you should use the most of because I would be less likely to tire of it than the green... and I abhor white walls (sorry... it's my opinion. White walls can work, but most of the time when I see a white wall it doesn't work.) 2. The white on the bottom will be broken up by your cherry furniture and the dark furniture will pop off the light white.

First Choice: I like the upside down version of the top left- green on bottom, white stripe, and cocoa on top. I still like the cocoa on top for the same reasons. I also like the green on the bottom because I think the cherry furniture would look very rich against the green. It wouldn't contrast like it would off the white, but would stand out just right. The richness of the cherry would compliment the richness of the green. The room would be rich, warm, and cozy which describes how I love for a room to feel.

This color is the color of my guest room and it looks identical to your fabric...you ight try the sample bottle...you can get it at walmart.

It is darker on the walls than in this picture.

fluffmonkey -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/6/2008 12:08:37 AM)

I like the idea of green with brown strip OR light green on top and brown bottom.

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/10/2008 10:25:06 AM)

Okay I have started work on Isaac's room. I need some advice.

As of right now I have thrown out the yellow gingham (well not literally thrown out, I've just decided too many prints and put it back in 'the stash').

I have the dust ruffle almost done, its out of THIS fabric with the stripes running up and down.

The bumper pads are next. They will be out of THIS on the outside (facing the room) and probably THIS on the inside of the crib.

I'm not making sheets and stuff, they are cheaper, easier, and more convenient to just buy at Walmart.

As a reminder....HERE is his room. Where I am stuck mainly is curtains.

I dont know what kind of fabric to buy. I could buy a solid and put a border of the stripes. (Walmart has plenty of all three fabrics so I am in luck!) But I dont want to use any of those three for curtains because its TOO much blue (we think anyway).

HERE is the quilt I've been making him, its almost done, in this pic its just the quilt top.

fluffmonkey -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/10/2008 10:33:05 AM)

Erin I think you could use some soild color in their as well maybe yellow or brown or maybe something else

laughinggirl -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/10/2008 11:51:24 AM)

Janine, I hung a metal wall grille over the guest bed in order to look like a headboard. I got it at JCPenney for about $50 several years ago. I know that's still not super-cheap, but it's less than a "real" headboard. You might keep your eye out for one on sale at places like JCP or Hobby Lobby or Kirkland's.

Here's what mine looks like: Wall grille

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/10/2008 12:09:20 PM)

Cute, Bethany! Fit for a princess.

Erin- I would do a tan for the curtains. Do they have anymore of the tan you used in the quilt? Would one of those tans match the tan in the doggie fabrics?

You could do something like (use your imagination to combine the pictures with your fabrics):

Solid with Stripe

Quilt-like doggy valance with solid panels

Mostly solid valance with squares of one of your patterned fabrics

Squares of all made into a valance

Solid panels with striped valance

Solid panels with quilt-like doggy pattern

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/10/2008 12:58:45 PM)

I was thinking a tan. I know I dont have enough of it on hand, but I got it at Hobby Lobby and they are having a sale this weekend so I am planning to go check it out. But yeah, I was leaning towards a tan. The curtains I was planning on making were going to be tab top. So I dont know about a valance, but I could so the stiped as a big border on the bottom and or tie backs. Though I have some wide "ribbon" with paw prints on it that I am using for ties for the bumper pads that I could use as tie backs.

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/10/2008 1:26:17 PM)

If you're doing tabs, a valance wouldn't make sense. I wouldn't do the extra work to put on tabs and then cover it up. I saw some with tabs that contrasted... let me find them... well, I'm not seeing them.

I think it'd be cute to do something like this without the valance and with the stripe on both the egdes and as tabs on a solid tan curtain. Or maybe solid tabs and solid curtains that changed to the solid blue doggy fabric for about 1 foot. I also think it could be cute to do this style with the solid panels, the stripe fabric at the top where there is a double layer and tabs in the stripe.

The possibilities are really endless, just depending on what your taste is. Will you be using a pattern?

No. I may reference a pattern but it will be from "scratch."

29redballoons -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/10/2008 2:06:20 PM)

Erin, I know your heart was set on the gingham...what about use the gingham and put a ruffle of one of the other more prominant fabrics. Maybe the one from the dust ruffle...or a horizontal stipre of each...to make it all work...

gingham
dog bones
dust ruffle
etc

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/10/2008 2:08:51 PM)

I've actually given up my love of the gingham, I still like it, its too pale with my furniture. Besides, as far as fabric goes, my MIL says "she who dies with the biggest stash wins!"[8D]

But I might play with it and see how it looks.

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/10/2008 2:09:41 PM)

Have you looked through patterns to help you decide? As I have looked on the internet, I've found that there's not many that are creative pictured. If the pictures on curtain patterns are anything like dress patterns, you could get a lot more creative ideas off them than the pictures I've seen online.

oh how pretty Bethany!!!!!

Erin...if you do tab tops I would do the tan on the bottom and the colorful patterned material you choose on the top portion instead of the bottom. It draws your eyes up more instead of weighting the curtain down at the bottom. I think the top 1/4 or so and pull back ties would be better then the bottom....but that's just my opinion.

nicole6598 -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/19/2008 9:01:39 PM)

well we are finally going to be getting some paint this weekend!! WOO HOO

So I have to go and pick some colours out today for hubby to approve. For Graces room I am doing pink walls, with a black picture rail 3/4 up the wall and white the rest of the way to the ceiling. No idea what to do in Naths room, he has weird panels everywhere. Our room I think will be a pale blue 3/4's of the way and then a creamish colour the rest of the way. Hubby wants a creamy/coffee colour in the lounge and hallways.

Mrs.Wifey -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/19/2008 9:21:35 PM)

Erin, what about doing some Minkie fabric on the inside of the bumper pad? It's soooo soft and cuddly.

See, I would disagree. I prefer the "heavier" print at the bottom[:D]

I never thought about that on the inside of the bumper pads, too late now, they are done! Not done done so I wont post pics yet.

I'm thinking about getting lazy on the curtains and just doing the print fabric as a tie back. Not sure, havent bought the curtain fabric yet so we will see.

I would agree, but since she is planning on using pull back ties I think it looks better with it being less weighted on the bottom....just my opinion and like though.

nicole6598 -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/19/2008 10:58:01 PM)

So I picked the colours for our room, and the kids room. Waiting for hubby to see what colour we do the lounge and hallways.

HERE is a link.

they look a little different on the computer than in real life.
the off white is in the three rooms at the top
the fairy wings half is graces room (3/4 of it) then the black is the border between the pink and the off white
the ice pack quarter is the bottom 3/4 of our room with off white at top
Oasis spring (half that shade) will be bottom part of naths with off white the top part.
