HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/27/2008 10:12:24 PM)

Nicole, we crossposted, so make sure you look at the last post on the last page. [:)]

nicole6598 -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/27/2008 10:26:23 PM)

Sorry, hot plate, cook top are the same things here :)
Ok, thanks for your opinion Zippy!
Would you do an island to give more space or would that disrupt the triangle?
If I had a dining table in there it would act as an island I guess

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/27/2008 11:00:35 PM)

Oh! Well, I would find a hotplate useful. Most people here have a cooktop/oven combo, although you can get them separately.

I thought it didn't look wide enough for an island.

nicole6598 -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/27/2008 11:09:39 PM)

Yeah this is going to be seperate, buying it together is waaaayyyy too expensive.
The thing with no 3 (and that's the design the first man gave) is that there is no broom closet which I need, unless he puts it on the other side of the pantry by the back door, it could look a little cramped though.

I wonder how hard it is to swap your sliding door to the other side? So that the door is where the window section is and vice versa?

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (6/28/2008 11:10:37 PM)

No idea!

I think then your latches and stuff would be on the wrong side. I don't if it could be done or not...

In your photo of your kitchen, where is the fridge now?

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (7/15/2008 1:51:43 PM)

Okay, I am finally getting back to Isaac's room. I am buying curtain fabric today...could quick questions...

What I have done/decided so far (pics to come when I get around to taking them...)

Dust Ruffle...I made out of this fabric, with the stripes running up and down...

Bumper Pads....I made out of this fabric on the inside (facing baby) and this fabric outside facing the room.

I am planning to buy curtain fabric today and I HOPE I can find this fabric again. Do you think it would look okay? Its the big border on his quilt. Its kind of hard to see but its cream colored with yellow and a few gold (not as "sparkley" as it looks). If not I am thinking a plain unbleached muslin or something cream colored for the curtains and then make accents out of the extra blue fabric. I was planning to do tab top curtains since I have white wooden rods with little ball finials on the ends.

Ideas?

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (7/15/2008 6:59:43 PM)

I like that curtain material!! I hope you found it. If not, try to get the muslin in the white to tan family. I think that would really compliment the fabrics you have.

What types of accents with the blue fabric?

Are you pleased with how the bedding has turned out? It sounds georgeous!

Have you thought about painting the curtain rod a blue or a brown to match (go with, I mean) the fabric on the crib? If you get creamy curtains, I probably wouldn't care to mix the white rods with the cream. I'm not a big fan of mixing white and cream. It's hard to do well, although I have seen times when it has worked beautifully. I just don't want it to look like you messed up matching your neutrals. Just tell me if I'm being too nosy!! [&:]

nicole6598 -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (7/15/2008 7:06:23 PM)

I like that material too Erin!! His room is going to look lovely

yolanda- our fridge is in the dining area at the moment about a 4 metre walk to the kitchen!!! We are waiting back on our house loan application to see if we can go ahead with the kitchen!! I hope we can!

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (7/15/2008 9:26:31 PM)

Well I usually dont like the white cream thing, but all the trim in the room is white so...I thought it'd match, and I'm not repainting the trim!! HAHA Looking back a natural color wood would have probably worked better, but I bought these well before I had the furniture.

Did not find the fabric. But I got an unbleached muslin so it has little tan flecks in it. It didnt photograph well.

As far as accents on the curtains...tie backs, and that may be it. MAYBE a border out of something, I'm not 100% sure yet. I may just do tie backs that way I can change his "theme" without necessarily replacing the curtains.

I am very pleased with the bedding...I need to take pics, but right now the room is a disaster since I just moved all my sewing stuff in there for ease of use. The bumper pads still need their ties so they arent totally done yet.

I bought THESE which I will paint a cream color, they really dont need painting but the paint will smooth the edges and I bought THESE. They are a thin wood. No idea how I am going to hang them up...any ideas? I thought about hanging the puppy things on a wide ribbon vertically. I also thought about hanging the letters...but they may be thick enough to add a "hang hole" on them.

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (7/15/2008 9:46:46 PM)

Psst...Erin... the "s" is upside down in your picture. Be careful to make sure the wider side is at the bottom when you hang them.

One idea with the puppy things is to get a square board, paint it in four different colored quadrants, and mount the wooden shapes in the center of each quadrant.

SIL painted and decorated my niece's name like she was making a scrapbooking embellishment... She added ribbons and bows and stripes. This will give you an idea of what I mean.

InBetweenDreams -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (7/15/2008 9:52:53 PM)

I guess I should post a link to the pictures I took of our place that is being built. The townhouse in the picture isn't ours because ours just got started, but it will give you ladies an idea of what it will look like. It is a lot larger and nicer than we thought it would be so that is good hey?! [:D]

That's a great idea Zippy!

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (7/15/2008 9:56:20 PM)

Love it, Nicole!! The tone-on-tone brown is so rich looking (both on the interior and exterior.)

I didnt even notice that on the S! Thanks!!

Neat idea on the puppy things...cool!

InBetweenDreams -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (7/15/2008 10:16:56 PM)

I like the exteriors a lot! This is the first color. There is going to be one more color that may be a bit lighter or darker. I guess we will have to wait to find out! I believe ours will be a different color than this one. They want them to look the same so I am thinking just another shade of brown?

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (7/15/2008 10:22:20 PM)

Probably, judging from the color palattes they have going on. They are all variations on the same theme.

nicole6598 -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (8/11/2008 2:29:32 AM)

Ok HERE is our room finished, well we just have to get a new blind for the window and carpet

HERE is grace's room, still needs to get some finishing touches, like different paintings, bookcase etc but you get the idea :) this one is standing at the door looking in
HERE is another one of the doorframe which we didn't know what to do with, so I am standing at the window. to the left is a space where her wardrobe is.

McGuinessMagee -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (8/11/2008 2:36:25 AM)

Nicole, I probably would have tried to see if I could match the colour of the timber. That way you don't have to break up the doorframe to match the platerail and it wouldn't look like the pink was standing out above where it should be either.

firefightermama -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (8/11/2008 6:59:17 AM)

It looks great Nicole, does Grace love it?

Did you post before pictures? Did I miss them somewhere?

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (8/11/2008 10:44:34 AM)

Very cute!! I love it! What are the butterfly pictures in Grace's room? Are they fabric stretched over a frame?

I agree with Kylie about the door frame. If you can't match the door, I would paint it the sme color as the plate rail. Generally in decorating, you keep all woodwork the same color, so the plate rail, crown moulding, door frame, window frame, and baseboards would all be the same color. They don't have to be and sometimes doing something different can be a really beautiful... having them all the same is just a general rule of thumb.

I agree. [:)] Nicole, what a lovely bedspread on your bed! I love those colors.

Nicole...I agree with this statement. I remember the pics of the "look" you were trying to achieve, and I personally think doing all the molding in the room black will really achieve that desired look from those pics you posted before.
