So I can go ahead then with the pink/brown theme in my nursery and somehow turn that boy-ish if we get a son? [8D]

Of course...I mean pink could be for boys too right? Thats apparently what my grandmother thinks since for our shower she got me a lovely pack of PINK receiving blankets. (not ones that could be neutral, no...pink, very pink.)

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (9/19/2008 2:54:19 PM)

IDK, Crystal... but I'm going to be SUPER IMPRESSED with D if he would allow that for a boy.

When I worked at decorating, we actually had a husband bring his wife and new baby into the store on the way home from the hospital from giving birth to repaint a pink room because the little girl they were preparing for turned out to be a boy. I mean, the baby wouldn't even sleep in it's own crib until he outgrew the bassinett... couldn't the paint have waited a week or so? Apparently, the father insisted.

Sure, why not? I told my husband if we had a little boy he'd be man enough to wear pink. [;)]

That discussion is how we eventually ended up with green and brown...which I actually really love.

spitzu -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (9/19/2008 3:41:19 PM)

Haha, that is so funny. Very sad, but funny.

Erin... wishful thinking, perhaps? That's odd. [&:]

I have hot pink diapers. D told me I should go ahead and get them even though a boy may end up wearing them (they were heavily discounted). But at least they'd be covered up. lol

I really really love green and brown too. My kitchen is green, my master bedroom is green (with a brown duvet cover) and my master bathroom is chocolate brown with sage green shower curtain. Love green/brown. That's probably what we'll end up doing if we adopt a boy, but if we adopt a girl, I just really really want pink and brown. It's a sickness. [8D] A sickness keeping me from doing anything in that silly nursery!!

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (9/19/2008 3:43:42 PM)

You can do the brown... and just add the green or pink when you figure out if you're going to get a boy or girl.

That was the original plan.

Then, I decided I didn't want to wait. [:)]

I say do the brown Crystal and add a colour like green or pink later on.

JoyfulLady -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (10/17/2008 11:05:41 PM)

I just had to dig up this thread and get some opinions. [:D] We're finally getting ready to do our kitchen remodel.

The pictures of my oh-so-lovely (not!) kitchen right now are HERE. I included a couple pics of the dining room as well.

The floor will be replaced with vinyl, the cabinets are coming out and getting replaced with finished oak cabinets, getting a new sink, new countertops, and the big window is getting replaced as well.
We may also possibly add some more cabinets under the big window. Would that look too crowded?

Here are some styles we have tentatively decided on. Tell me if you think they go well together and tie in with the dining room.

FLOOR

COUNTERTOPS

CABINETS would come out about this shade of finish.

SINK

AND, I can't figure out how to get a link, but the walls would be painted a sagey green color.

Whaddya think?

HisCovenant -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (10/17/2008 11:17:11 PM)

I like it all... I think more cabinets under the window would be fine, but you may need to shorten the "bar" so the cabinets don't impede the flow... but the cabinets against the wall would give you a lot more storage than the lost foot or two of "bar."

Mrs.Wifey -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (10/18/2008 12:05:04 AM)

I like it all, too!

No other suggestions really other then to do a sunken sink(I think that's what they are called). My MIL had one done when she had her kitchen remodeled and it's WONDERFUL!

JoyfulLady -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (10/18/2008 2:08:53 PM)

Thanks! [:)]

Zippy, what we were considering was the cabinets under the window stopping where the microwave stand currently is, and replacing that stand with another one of similar depth, so it shouldn't effect the doorway size.
All that extra cupboard space is going to be nice. [:D]

Ryanne, I didn't know what a sunken sink was so I had to look it up. That looks neat!

spitzu -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (10/18/2008 3:37:57 PM)

I hate my white sink because it's too dang hard to keep clean... and I can't wait to get rid of it... just sayin'. [8D]

lol.....I despise my stainless steel sink because we have off-the-charts hard water here and it makes the stainless steel look like ****. [:'(]

spitzu -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (10/19/2008 12:58:22 PM)

Yeah, so do we... but I had stainless in our last apt and I still prefer it! Hard water spots are much easier for me to clean than dark gray streaks from a pot gently rubbing on the sink. [&:] Hate that sink... hate it!! (Can you tell I feel strongly about it? [8D])

Maybe yours will be easier though. [:)]

spitzu -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (10/21/2008 2:35:48 PM)

Ok, so, I think we're getting closer to replacing our couch and love seat. We're going to replace the love seat with a la-z-boy leather recliner, for my hubby. Unfortunately, its primary purpose will be comfort and back support instead of looks, so it's not a nice modern looking one like I'd pick if it were mostly for looks. But anyway, we'll eventually get a leather couch to match. Only, we can't agree on color. He likes black the best, but I like the chocolate brown. The black seems cold while the brown seems warmer... and I can't help but be reminded of 80's bachelor pads when I see black leather furniture. [8|]

He'll go with brown as he doesn't really care all that much, so really the choice is mine. So what say you? Can black leather be non-bachelor-pady? I'd hate to not go with his choice on the one decorating thing he actually has a small opinion on. LOL

I don't think so...I think it would be very very functional having that other third of the counter space to work with!!
Have you thought of moving the refrigerator to that other side, or do you want to keep the window open? (If it were me I would find a way to move the refrigerator to somewhere else...I hate feeling cramped with the stove and refrigerator right by each other)

brown vs black leather...I think for your personal style the brown would go better.

I am going to try to finish the trim in the bathroom now that I am not pregnant...so someone ask me in a week or so if I have done it yet (I need accountability...I only remember when I am in there, then I forget once I walk out the door)

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (10/21/2008 10:07:47 PM)

we knocked part of the hole in the wall for the doorway we need to put in (going from the living room to the garage conversion bedroom, so we can use it as an office instead of a junk room with no function). It's about the right height, and about two feet wide. We need to get a certain kind of saw before we can really get the rest knocked out....then framing stuff. We are not putting a door in yet, just the doorway....we figure we don't need the door yet since it will only be an office for now. I will have to take a picture tomorrow (my camera battery is charging right now)

Totally cool!

Amber, I actually like your kitchen. [:)] I would just change the floor if it was me and maybe sand and stain the cupboards a darker color. But I like it the way it is too! It's cute and looks nice! I also love your whole house.

nicole6598 -> RE: Our Homes (revived chat about decorating) (10/22/2008 4:50:34 PM)

Oh Sarah!! I LOVE THAT!!!!!
I am going to Ikea when I am away so I might try and find some things to make that with!!
