Another reason for priming (on unfinished wood) is because it then lifts the fibers of the wood and seals it so that it can be sanded smoothly...primer isn't as "wet" as regular paint, so if you use just regular paint on something (without sanding the bottom coat) it won't feel very smooth. Primer makes it smooth without (mostly) having to sand again.

Thanks for the education! I didn't realize that.

LOL..thanks ...I think so too!!!!!

Sarah, your bathroom is awesomely fantastic! I want our new bathroom to look just like that!

LOL....I know!!! It is isn't it!!!! I really love it!!!!!
Last night Paul cracked me up....we can't use that toilet in there yet (need to call a plumber...hopefully this week!!!) but last night he went to use the other bathroom then went in there to wash his hands...lol. He said he loves that room!!!

my kids follow me around when I have the camera out...so I usually can't get a shot without kids of some kind in there...lol

Our house is not brick...but it is a pretty light blueish greyish color of siding...with white trim. I love the white trim on things....to me it makes it looked clean and finished!!!!

Well, it's a nice pretty day outside so I took the cabinet doors out there and worked on them for a while...still need to do about 2/3 of them still, but I don't have too many places to lay them where they will be safe til they dry...so I am only doing about four doors at a time. It might take me forever, but I am having fun doing the kitchen!!!

Haha yeah good luck with that! We looked at a townhouse that was brick. It was sooooo soundproof. There were 2 for sale right beside eachother so Lorne went in one and I went in the other. We both yelled and banged on walls and slammed doors and we could barely hear a thing. Our realtor had a good laugh.

Yep, pets sure are funny! They like to follow me around all the time. Everytime I am on the computer my dogs just have to be with me. My cats always want in the room, but I don't like having them in our bedroom. And when we do have a normal computer room again they won't be allowed in anyways because we will have our snakes, hamster and my bird in there. So they just have to sit out and get grumpy and whine.

Ryanne do you own that apartment? Is it 1 or 2 bedroom?

Nope, we just rent.

Ladies, I love the Ugly chair, it even reclines! And besides, you can't beat a $15 thrift store find, lol.

LOL...that's true Ryanne!!!! You can easily make it not so "ugly" with fabric...but you can't do much for a non-comfy chair!!!

Well, the weather was very nice today so I spent a few hours outside painting cabinet doors. We are supposed to have a few days here in a row that are good, so I am going to try to get them done while it is nice out!!! So far I have the backs of six doors done. I am doing the backs first, then I will see if there are any drips on the front, sand them off, and paint them. The backs are harder because they have inset parts on the sides of the backs...so that has to all be done with a brush. The fronts should go quickly with just a few coats with a roller.

I was outside on Sat. doing back yard weeding! How come grass and flowers don't grow in the winter but weeds do (and vigorously)?

With the frosts we've had in the last month our beautiful tropical plants are a gonner! Oye! I was so upset to see my lovely palmy fronds all brown and nasty...and my beautiful hibiscus plant! I hope it comes back!

I don't have my own house, but I've been working on my bedroom for quite a while. Its an ivory and white theme, and will have many accent colors, though mostly pink and green, because I have a green couch. I still have to hang up all my pictures, knick knacks, etc., but I am done painting. The walls are ivory, and I'm going to put up actual white lace as a border(if I can find some, I've been looking, lol. My bed, desk, and lightswitch and outlet plates are gold and white. The couch, antique sewing machine table and bedside table (antique pie warmer I got for $20.00), are wood, so I kind of ended up with a white side and a wood side. I will try to post a picture when it is done. My plan was always to post it in home and garden though, so I will probably do that, and just put the link here.

I was awakened at 4am to the sound of light drizzle of rain on the pool water right outside our bedroom door......so paul ran out there to move my kitchen cabinet doors out of the rain. Hopefully they are all ok......not sure if I will paint today (they may need to dry out a little more)

LOL . Ok, I will! I was just concerned not to spam.

Believe it or not ladies, in some ways it is harder to do just one room than your whole house...with a whole house, you can spread out different ideas. Its much more limiting with just one room.

It's a lot harder to just do one room. When I shop, I think of how great everything I find would look in every other room than the one that I need to fix. Plus, I tend to make up products in my mind... I want an shelving unit, but I have made up the height that I need... or I need a fruit bowl for my kitchen, but have made up the design that would fit perfectly on my cabinet and still hold enough fruit for a week.

Ok, this looks like so much fun! I LOVE decorating. We don't have much money to throw into it right now. We rented the first 2.5 years we were married and just bought this house in October 07. My mom and sister came and helped me paint... it was SO fun! My next project is the baby's room. I have a lot of ideas, but it will take a while for it to come together. (My mom, sister, and I are making all of the baby bedding, curtains, etc!)

Here are 2 photo albums... the house when we first bought it (some with the other people's furniture in it)

and our painting/decorating

BTW... your homes are lovely! It's so much fun to see what other ladies are doing to decorate their homes! :)

Content- it looks like you and your friends gave your home so much personality. No wonder you had a good time. Isn't it fun peeking in on each other's lives?

Hey Krista!

I love your stripes!! Our 1st home was reds, greens, blues & golds! There is something about painting bold colors that really makes your 1st home YOURS. Enjoy your decorating and keep us up to date with pics.

Oh Krista I LOVE your striped wall!!!!! I would love to do that, but our walls are textured so it wouldn't work well here.

one room is harder then a whole house...but I try to keep my whole house in one style or commonality because we move and things get put all over the house in all sorts of different areas or for different uses...so I like to try to keep things consistent.

I change stuff around, too. The first time I was explaining to my husband about having the whole house coordinate, I told him that I would take a picture or fabric and decorate as if I was going to place it in every room. He heard that I was going to put the same picture in every room of our home. I liked to never get him calmed down enough to listen to what I meant.

LOL.....luckily my hubby and I have the same tastes. One day I would like to have all cherry wood stained furniture in the whole house...I like the red pallet so I am trying now to incorporate that into every room more (have to replace the Christmas green couches before I can put that in the living room though...it's too much!!!)

Thanks! The stripes in the kitchen are so much fun! They are only on the 2 end walls though so it isn't too overwhelming. The chair cushions are blue and the green just was what I wanted and I was amazed that it turned out well!

I know what you mean about having a consistent theme throughout the house. We move furniture around a good bit too... Our living room, family room, and hallway, were all painted a grey/very light purple color with white trim and blue accents in various places. But I have a multi-colored rug (from the apartment to cover the stains on the carpet!) that ties almost anything together!! it works beautifully!

Krista, I'd be interested in seeing pictures of your finished home- with all your furniture in place. The pictures you posted looked like you were headed in a really creative, exciting direction. I feel cheated- like I was left hanging.

Yesterday I dug out my fabric collection and decided to make a slipcover for our microwave cart. HERE is the (almost) finished product, I still need to wash it so that it shrinks a wee bit.

Cute Ryanne!!

I bought fabric yesterday to recover my dining room chairs with. I pulled one chair apart to figure out exactly how to do it and it's going to be pretty easy.
I may try to finish them off tonight. I bought tons of extra fabric!! Walmart is clearing out their fabric section and it's all 25% off. The fabric was only $3 a yard to begin with, so I got 5 yards... on the chairs I think I'll end up using maybe 2 yards. I would love to find a few more chairs that could blend in with the ones I've got, and recover them to match.
Our table came with 5 chairs- such a funny number!! I'd love 3 or 4 more dining room chairs, as we often have larger groups of company over.

I'll post pics when the project is done!
