We are living in the house in which I grew up. My family had the basement totally redone 10 years ago. When dh and I got married, we moved out of town, but kept ownership of this house (we rented it out). The gal who rented it totally trashed it, so we have spent the past 2 years trying to clean it up again. We still have a long way to go (time and finances have prevented it from happening any quicker). This weekend we will be pulling up the carpeting in the basement (which she let her animals destroy), painting, and turning the basement into a playroom for the kids, and thhere will also be a section for dh's model trains. We are hoping to have laminate flooring laid down there before the end of the month.

Yeah, it takes forever to move. One thing that really helped me was having the ladies in my family help me unpack while the men moved the furniture. Sure, I had to move a few things to where I could use them better, but it was a huge help to get most of that out of the way. But it is exciting!

I totally agree, Sarah. We have been here since July and it really has just been this week that we finally have everything in its "place" and are living in the house like a home. Now, I am getting the to personal touches that really warm up a place. I will post pics soon of our family room...

Jae, Michael's or Walmart have decent priced plate hangers. Ok, I have a dilemma. I don't quite have enough fabric for seat cushions in the dining room. The red fabric on the microwave cart is the same as the valance in the living room, and the yellow isn't used anywhere else. I *think* I want some red toile but I don't want to end up with it being to "busy" or even blocky feeling. I want the 2 rooms to flow together since it's such a small space. If I do throw pillows in the both the red floral and a red toile, and then the dining room cushions in red toile and the yellow buttercream would that tie in ok? Hmm... I'm also in the process of spray painting our old dining room chairs and part of the table black, the top of the table is a butcher block and will get stained an almost cherry color to match the rest of our wood.

Those fabrics would be great together in the places you mentioned. I would also put a bit of red and butter cream on your walls in pictures, a wreath, a plate, a shelf with red accessories. You will want to spread the red evenly around the entire room for balance. Itherwise, your eye will be drawn to the couch and the rest of the room will feel bare- even if you fill it up with other stuff.
