Gr-r-r-r...
quote:

ORIGINAL: Lapidoth
I hope to build a real sukkah this year.
And I'll be having a kosher birthday cake for Yeshua.
He's invited, but I'll probably eat it all myself.

and more gr-r-r-r-r-r-r. Don't talk to me about "real sukkot." That's a sore spot.

LOL.

Last year we pitched our camping tents.
Brrrr, it was cold, but we spent the nights
in the tents. Had some good father/daughter
time there.

But, during the day, we spent the day hours
studying the Bible in the church kitchen.
That probably isn't kosher? So we didn't KEEP sukkot
from what I've read about it. lol.

As for "real" I was meaning I was going to cut some
branches and poles and make a lean-to type thing.
I'd really like to have a "real tipi" but can't afford it.
That would raise some eyebrows in this area. lol.
We observe the "correct" times (moedim) but we
don't really "keep" them here.

Personally, it's more important to me NOT to follow
the ways of the world. To actually be Set-Apart.
But, we all have our own opinions as to what that is.

Just in case I don't get to log in tomorrow, Happy Canada Day tomorrow, eh?

Despite some of their liberal practices, I have a soft spot for our northern neighbors.

Tomorrow is a legitimate holiday.
Bombs bursting in air, etc.
I seldom observe fireworks but was
invited by a neighbor who owns a firework
outlet. So, they will be having a bigger display
at their house than most cities. Only a mile away,
so I'll be gazing at the sky and sniffing gun powder
tomorrow night.

Will this be an opportunity to expose the pagan-ness
of X-mass? LOL. Who knows?

You should spend it with family like I'm doing. This way you can blame the pagan-ness of it on your parents.

I agree.

Today is my oldest dd's 21st birthday. When she was little, we always had her party on the 4th since everyone was around anyway. It took her a while to understand why other people didn't get fireworks on their birthday too!

Only if you want to hammer those "Christmas in July" types. I'll join you in that one. IMHO Christmas should never be celebrated in July.

Now ifin yous wanna fuss 'bout sumtin, hows about Labor Day weekend? Is it fair to celebrate a day for the working class when half of the working class has to work that weekend to entertain the other half of the working class???

While it may seem so, this uncomfortable struggle over Christian holiday traditions is in no way a new phenomenon. It might surprise you to know that the very same Puritans who left Europe to escape religious persecution because they did not believe that they should do anything that was not firmly rooted in the Bible….the same Puritans that established the earliest colonies in America, and those whom we rightly venerate and credit with establishing our annual holiday of Thanksgiving…….shunned the celebration of Christmas. Their stated reason? It was common knowledge that Christmas was established by means of a Papal decree and was but the renaming of the ancient holiday called, Brumalia.

Is X-Mas Biblical? Let explore the facts so you can see for yourself. On 12/24/1871 Charles H. Spurgeon said: "We have no superstitious regard for times and seasons. Certainly we do not believe in the present ecclesiastical arrangement called Christmas. First because we do not believe in any mass at all, but abhor it, whether it be sung in Latin or in English: Secondly, because we find no scriptural warrant whatever for observing any day as the birthday of the Savior; and consequently, its observance is a superstition,.. It was not till the middle of the third century that any part of the Church celebrated the birth of our Lord;.. Probably the fact is that the 'holy' days were arranged to fit in with the heathen festivals. We venture to assert that if there be any day in the year of which we may be pretty sure that it was not the day on which our Savior was born it is the 25th of December.

You know... I'm going to laugh very hard (and be very, VERY disappointed) if this thread stays alive until Christmas time...

Especially considering that it started as a joke that was funny back in January................
