ORIGINAL: tracydolls Jer 10:1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: Jer 10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. Jer 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. Jer 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. I thoughtt that was the Christmas Tree, stopped putting one up when I read that verse. Why'd you stop at that verse? The next one clears the whole matter: 5 "Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field are they, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot walk! Do not fear them, For they can do no harm, Nor can they do any good." Wow! I didn't know this was that prevalent. I actually asked a co-worker about it, and he went so far as to say he doesn't celebrate Christmas because of the pagan conotations and he calls it 'Joy and Giving Day'. So I didn't know if this idea was serious or sarcastic til I talked to him. It kinda blows my mind. I guess since the idea of Christmas trees is so ingrained in the celebration of Christmas, i never really thought about it. The passage is not talking about decorated trees but about idols made from, carved from trees.
