Do any TRUE metal Christian bands exist anymore? Not "metalcore", not "NU-metal", but REAL metal, anything along the lines of power metal and traditional 80's metal and thrash, even extreme metal. I guess for me, Demon Hunter doesn't count, because they're metalcore. As I Lay Dying are good, but metalcore as well. I'm listening to "I Witness" by Black Sabbath.

Bloodgood and Barren Cross are some good classic metal bands. Also Angelica, Bride, Deliverance, Guardian, Holy Soldier, Mastedon, Tourniquet, and Whitecross. To actually hear some of these bands, or find others like them, check out our sister station Christian Armor Radio here. God bless.

duderoxforlisa, Are you asking about the bands that were around in the 80s & 90s? Or are you asking about newly formed bands that play more of the power metal, classic melodic kind of stuff? I had mentioned in a post sometime last year about a band I found quite by accident while searching for the classic metal sound. They are based in Athens, Ga. The band is THEOCRACY. Knowing your fondness of Iron Maiden, I think you would enjoy their music. I bought their self titled CD, and it sounds very similar to them, or maybe Queensryche. You can listen to some samples of their music at their myspace page.

I was just turned on to a band called Eternal Decision. They have an early Metallica feel especially in their first album (they only have three out and they are overdue for a fourth). Check them out!

I remember Mastedon from about 15-20 years ago, which was interesting that in the past several years, there is the secular band Mastodon that has the song "Blood And Fire", about Moby Dick, and the album 'Blood Mountain'. I've seen them a few times (not the Christian Mastedon). I should listen to the Christian station link!!

Narnia is an excellent metal band in the vein of 80s metal. A couple other good ones are Jacobs Dream, The Showdown, and Antithesis. Not sure if Antithesis is still recording, though.

Definately Bride. But I hear their next release will be their last. Also, Disciple and The Showdown (espacially their most recent "Temptation Comes My Way")

The "Temptation Come My Way" CD does have a Metallica-like vibe to them (particularly the Black Album/Load/Reload era). Disciple is good, but may be way too nu-metal for someone who likes old-school style thrash and power metal. On a different note, I'll have to check out Theocracy. They sound like they have promise....

Are you kidding? Real metal doesn't exist anymore, Christian or not. You'd be lucky to find some real metal anywhere. Disciple is good for those into groove metal, but as for honest to goodness NWOBHM and classic 80's thrash metal, it's a tough find. The closest thing to Christian metal today is As I Lay Dying, which leans much closer to melodic death metal such as In Flames than metalcore. Hmm, as for older bands, Barren Cross was pretty good. Mortification rocked too.

Do industrial bands count? Argyle Park, Aleixa, Chatterbox, Under Midnight, Massivivid... Incidentally, Massivivid's "Brightblur" is one of my favorite albums of all time, but did any of you buy their follow up album "Dressed To The Nines/Armed To The Teeth"? Maybe I am just too dense to get the artistic statement they were trying to make, but soncially it was a gigantic leap from "Brightblur" and left me frustrated. They haven't put out another album since (to my knowledge). Why do bands do that...start with a killer sound, then change? Jars of Clay did it (worked out for them, I guess). Skillet did it (actually made them better). Starflyer 59 did it (still haven't forgiven Jason Martin). I guess what I'm saying is: I appreciate a band that stays true to themselves...Rez Band, White Heart, The Choir, Five Iron Frenzy, and others.
