i saw a quote from someone close to him that he views the tests as a way to keep him accountable. i never did see what drugs specifically are tested. josh has denied using steroids and has never tested positive so i wasnt sure that was tested specifically. i was hoping he'd go yard last night but it was still a really good game. why can't the NL ever win, lol?

I'm pretty sure there's a standard test that they all take covering a variety of banned substances, including steroids and probably amphetamines. In Hamilton's case they may add other substances.

Haven't been on this fourm so I want to say my thoughts about the all star game. One of the best all star games in a while. Loved that Maurneau had a game.

Well, Bill, I guess that a split with you guys is better than getting swept. I'm just surprised that it was Volquez that got lit up by the Mets and not Josh Fogg. Although Josh has been doing better of late, it still isn't up to the level that Edinson has been pitching. Maybe the All-Star Game appearance threw him off of his routine sufficiently to cause yesterday's sub-par performance - I don't know. But like I said, at least it was a split instead of a sweep. On both sides.

The big plus is both Mets wins were come from behind, something they haven't been doing all year. Now I hafta face 3 with Philly. [:'(]

I was just scanning the headlines at MSN.com and saw where the Reds have traded Junior Griffey to the White Sox for the ubiquitous "player(s) to be named later." I know that Junior has lost a little pop in his bat, but the hometown fans love coming out to see him, and his chase for Sammy Sosa on the all-time list is a big reason for that. And there's still talk that Adam Dunn may be on the block today, as well. Baseball may be a business, but "Dagnabit, Luke!" do they have to go and mess things up more than they already are this year in Cincy? Jay Bruce is playing well, Joey Votto is surprising me, Edinson Volquez is tremendous, and Brandon Phillips is one of the best 2nd basemen in the game. With a little bit of early season luck, things could've been different for the Reds. I guess the front office is already looking at next year. PPPPPPBBBBBBBBBBTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!! i think griffey's cursing and throat slash gesture earlier this week was pretty classless ... no matter what someone supposedly says about you ... i think the reds still have a lot of talent at least offensively, i have no clue about their pitching

2 things, I think that a lot of players want to win. Griffey being the same as any competitor. I don't know if it has everything to do with money, but he is getting older and still producing. he wants a chance to win the big one. him leaving does not mean he won't be back to cincy to end his career. just my thoughts.

and #2, GO CUBBIES...100 yrs, and hopefully this is our year. No I am not a band wagoner, I ahve been a fan since i was 9 and got cable. WGN was the channel that GI Joe came on and in the summers I would watch the cubs play.

Hoe the heck did the Yankees wind up with Pudge???? I thought I was hearing things last night when they announced the lineup.

Manny's in LA, I wonder how long it'll take Torre to bench him for not hustling. The Sox should have sent him to Washington. Let him see what it's like to play on a really bad team. As good as he is I don't think I'd want his attitude in my clubhouse.

i figured this series was just being overhyped figuring the only way the standings would change is from a sweep ... cause seriously changes are for a split or 3-1 edge which really doesnt move things around very much ... but this was very impressive!

yes, I was very happy about this sweep. it opense up al ittle cushion over the brewers and with the braves taking a game from St. Lious, it is now 5 games over both of them. very exciting.

Longtime Braves announcer Skip Caray died earlier this morning in his sleep.

Living where I live I grew up listening to him call the 14 consecutive division championships.

Gonna miss his sarcasm on the broadcasts.

Maybe it would have served him right for doggin' it but no team out of contention would want to deal with him for 3 months before he leaves anyway. Not to mention they'd have to give up a prospect or two. Manny knew he would be dealt to a contender, thats the only place he'd have any value right now.

Because rules mean nothing to him and apparently don't mean much to Torre either (and its his rules). Its an unbelievably stupid rule (short hair doesn't lead to championships and long hair is in no way immoral) but its still a rule and everyone should abide by it. Manny's haircut is in no way in compliance with any meaningful interpretation of the rule. But he has been a great addition to the Dodgers lineup.

The China-US Olympic game showed some of the worst of the game, and Matt LaPorta, whom Cleveland received in the Sabathia deal, was beaned with a concussion by the Chinese pitcher on his subsequent at-bat after he collided with a Chinese catcher on a close play. A second US player ran into a second Chinese catcher. That left Chinese head coach Jim Lefevbre ejected. The Chinese pitcher who beaned the prospect and Steve Ontiveros, the former MLB All-Star who is the pitching coach for the PRC, ejected.

Ugly game. Should lower levels of baseball adopt college rules on interference?

There was no interference. There were collisions and retaliations. Welcome to the world of baseball the way it used to be played. I think the Chinese pitcher went a little too far, a plunking in the middle of the back is sufficient, but retaliation is part of the game. Always has been. You mess with my guys I'm gonna mess with yours. It's only in the past decade that everything got so nicey-nice in MLB.

I do agree that it is a stupid rul and doesn't lead to better players or a championship, but I disagree that his haircut is not in compliance with it. It IS a haircut!

Maybe he should walk into Torre's office with a pair of scissors, cut one of his hairs and hand it to Torre. [:D]
