If there was life on other planets, they would surely fall as we did. Then He would have had to send someone to redeem them. Since the Word of God says His only Son then that to me means there is no life (beings with a soul) as there is here.
Larry Norman wrote a song in the 70s called "UFO:"

He's and unidentified flying object We will meet Him in the air
He's and unidentified flying object You will drop your hands and stare...

and if there's life on other planets then I'm sure that He must know
and has been there once already and has died to save their souls...

He's and unidentified flying object coming back to take us home...

However, I find it a stretch to assume that if God did create sentient life elsewhere that they fell into sin as well. I started writing an SF novel several years ago about a group that traveled from earth to colonize a planet they found that could support us and found a small furry race of unfallen beings (I described them as looking kinda like cousin It from the Aadams Family) and their irritation at being blasted by our rebellion. Never finished it though.....

The bible is two thousand years old..and more. How would God explain aliens to people who had no idea there was an outer space?

It would not be hard to imagine Jesus going to other planets to save them too. God has one Son correct? Does that limit Him to just earth? Can't God figure out the logisitcs of multi-planet salvation plans?

I would think so.

But they wouldn't be bug-eyed monsters which is how aliens (from those who have supposedly seen them) actually look. If they were going to be his children, they'd be made in his image, like we are.

"actually look?" How does somthing that is invisible acutally look? We are made in HIS image, but since HE is invisible what does that mean exactly? Certainly it must mean other or more than just physical appearance.

We have no way of knowing for sure if there are aliens or not. I believe it's not our place to know (yet). Someday God may confirm this to us. I don't think we should spend too much time questioning this or listening to all the "alien abduction" stories out there. I believe that is a deception and tool of the enemy to take our eyes off God. When God wants to confirm with us if there is or not aliens he will do so. It's really none of our business otherwise.

ETA: OP, your question wasn't silly though! I've asked that as well before (I think we all do at some point.)

No since I was made in God's image He must be a hazel eyed, brown haired, over weight, amputee like me.

IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER PEOPLE!

But it is fun.

I'd have to agree with you there-- As a finite being with a finite understanding, I would in no way pigeonhole the Lord Elohim, Creator of the Universe and say that he would confine his creation of life only to this tiny little planet. God is a God of extravagant beauty and imagination, so I think it would be odd for him to only create life on Earth.

As for the individual that reasoned that there is no life elsewhere by the term God's ONLY begotten Son... "only" refers to the Son, not the planet... It stands to reason that Jesus, also being God, could save another world as he did us... Let's not try to box God in, okay?

But in the end, it doesn't matter. Jesus and his gift of salvation matters.

I have recently talked about this subject in general some time ago. I personal do not believe that aliens exist. While I know the Bible is silent on this factor, the notion of another life form being created can easily be answered by this one scripture: Gen 1:1. The focal point shifts from heaven to the earth, and Moses eventually shares how the first humans came to be as well as all creation. Not one comment is made on life forms aside from that which is created on earth. As scripture progresses towards the age of Christ, we learn that the heavens declare the glory of God and that God made man a little lower than the angels and to have dominion over the works of His hand. As the canon closes, Jesus is known as the perfect God-man, in full humanity having the fullness of diety, and that all who believe are part of His body and will share in His glory. The point, then is this: the scene shifts from heaven and earth (or heaven, earth, or hell) and not Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, etc. I do believe while the Bible is silent about aliens specifically, there is plenty of passages containing action on earth, heaven, and even in Hell. I do believe that if there was a race of what we call "aliens" alive in the universe, then the Bible would mention that Christ died for all who believe, as well as for those in other places. But the Bible makes it very clear that He died for all on earth! With that information, I find it a closed issue.

Plus, consider the concept of aliens: they are said to be more advanced in technology and intelligence. This would contradict scripture because aside from man being the pinnacle of God's creation (because we share attributes with God) who else is intelligent far above man? The only one is God Himself. Thus, if more intelligent lifeforms exist them God created others, aside from man, that were more intelligent. And because scripture is clear on how important man is to God, I can't help but think that man is all there is in this universe. So, this is my argument concerning aliens. Even if any of you do, then it's a choice you are free to make, but my observations and study of scripture have taken me to go with a no-to-aliens position. The Bible hasn't given me room to believe this when it says that God made man in His image and gave them charge over the work of His hands. Heaven and earth is all there is (plus Hell) as far as life. But hey, I'm still learning. Nevertheless, I'm convinced there's not. I do agree with one that said that aliens and "unexplained encounters" may be the result of demonic activity. That, I believe, scripture can justify. Aside from that, silence is golden!!!

How would God communicate through Moses to a pre-industrial society with little scientific knowledhe the existance of life on other worlds?

Is life on other worlds core to the Gospel? The bible is about Jesus Christ not about everything in creation...and no human can concieve all of what God has created.

I'm with Ninja, Ive never belived in them. If we look at the creation from day one to day six when God finished, there's no mention of aliens. Plants, fish, man were mentioned, but not aliens.

Gen 1

26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Just the earth earth here. Not the moon or jupiter. I don't think it's odd. He's the creator. if he doesn't want plants or gravity on the moon, why not?

Sorry, didn't read every single post, but wanted to make a quick couple of comments.

First: Read a book such as Lee Strobel's The Case for a Creator, or watch a presentation such as The Privileged Planet. The earth seems to be in the perfect spot for both human existence and the ability for humans to observe the universe. The universe seems to be tuned exactly right for human life to prosper. This doesn't rule out the possibility that our creative God has been busy elsewhere, but it sure does seem to indicate that the universe is tuned for human life.

Second: Read C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy. It is an excellent set of science fiction stories with a heavy does of theological truth. The story basically goes that each planet in our system has unique life on it, and earth (called 'the silent planet') has been quarantined to angels due to sin. Later in the story, the hero, Dr. Ransom, is sent to Venus, where God has just created an entirely new intelligent species. Their "Eve" figure has not yet sinned, but Satan has managed to travel there as well and is in the process of tempting her. Dr. Ransom's job is to stop the corruption of the planet.

You will absolutely love this series, and you may just start looking to the stars with a different frame of mind.

This kind of thinking is frightning to me, a Christian. What you just said is that Jesus must be crucified over and over again for those other people out there.

So much for "it is finished."

Romans 6:10 "For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all ; but the life that He lives, He lives to God."

"Once" means once. One time.

"for all" means ... for all, everyone.

How can the alien come to the cross if it lives so far away anyway? How can they be gone to and "preached the Gospel too?"

There is no other life anywhere in this whole universe folks. The Bible is clear about that. If you want to know where it says that I say start at Genesis 1:1 and go till you hit the concordance. It is the "why" we are here.

Frankly, i'd love to go to the museum. It never hurt's to see what people think or have to say. I don't know what I believe about UFOs, I don't much care. If I think anything, I think UFOs are more likely USOs. More than that... I don't know. There are way too many accounts for there to be nothing happening at all. The USS Franklin Roosvelt had a lot of encounters on the seas...

Beats me...

USOs... Dinosaurs... ??? One thing I do know is this: one day I will know all the answers because when I see Him I will be like Him.

As I said before, how could God qualify every statement in the bible with.....on this planet...when those people had no knowledge of other planets?

Those scriptures do not exclude the possibility of life on other worlds.

Life on other worlds is no threat to God, our christianity or our faith at all.

If there is life, and it is intellegent, on other worlds, then God had a hand in it and will deal with them in the way He deems necessary. That might be a crucifixtion...it might not be. Its hard to say not knowing the alien's mental, spiritual make-up. They could be radically different from us.

It would be bizarre to me that God would creats an infinite universe and only put life in one very very small corner. The universe is huge with billions of galaxies, let alone planets and stars. Its not just our solar system which is a terribly small corner of the universe.

It will never be a crucifixion. Read drcain's post again. This thoughts are very misleading and dangerous.

I don't find it bizarre that God took time to create the erath. From the 3rd day to the 6th. So many days just for the earth. Not another galaxy. You know why?

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Because we're special to him and he loves us. He even gave Jesus for us earthlings. Not for any planet. Just us. Peace.

If they can hold the belief that the earth and the skies were created when one of their gods was cut in half, I think they could handle the idea that there were other planets.

There is no verse that says that, period. And you cannot intrepret that into any other verse without stretching some things, perhaps beyond the breaking point.

And who says that inteligent life elsewhere needed a savior? Maybe the did not fall.

Joh 10:16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.

Was He speaking of the Gentiles who were not part of Israel or space aliens that were not from Earth, but would be joined with us at the time of the end? Either could be a valid intreptretation.

I think the difficulty with such a discussion is that there is no definitive or exhaustive evidence either way. All we know for certain is that:

There exists no evidence in Scripture or in our observation of the universe to support the existence of life, intelligent or otherwise, elsewhere.

If such life exists, its existence is apparently not critical to our own, as it isn't mentioned in Scripture.

While the absence of any definitive statement on the subject in Scripture could be understood to support the irrelevance of life elsewhere to our own, it cannot be understood to be evidence against said life, nor permission to speculate that such life exists. It is simply is what it is.

In short, no one knows.

Without a belief in God, it gives unbelievers some sense of hope to think there's other intelligent life out there (usually superior to us) that cares about us.

Interestingly, that's right. He is God and proof of His love is Jesus.

The God-shaped vacuum in humans will either be filled by the Way, the Truth, and the Life or else it will be filled with fantasy, fraud, or fiction.

Ok, I feel a little silly for asking this question but, I was at dinner tonight with my husband family and my mother-in-law starts talking about another family members wedding that will be in New Mexico. She then proceeds to my husband we should check out the Roswell Museum when we go down because it will tell us the truth about aliens. Now my mother-in-law is very far from a christian woman and frankly I think she is a little nuts, she whole heartdly belivies in extra-terrestials and ufos. This led to a whole discussion.

Now I belivie in the father, son and holyspirit, and frankly I know to the very depths of my being that there is no such thing as aliens. It's simply a product of people's very over active imaginations. However, I had a hard time explaining why I know this. Her reasoning that she gave was if you belivie in God and that God has created everything and everyone, then why couldn't he have created aliens in another universe. Why would we be arrogant enough to think we are it. Why couldn't God be doing the same thing he is doing on earth on some other planet or universe.

All I could say was well, I'm sorry but I don't belivie in aliens and I think it's just hard for us humans to pathom that as big and vast as the universe is that it's all here for us and yes we are the only ones made in God's image. The universe is ours and only ours and has a purpose that we are not even close to understanding yet. I told her we may find bacteria or other minerals etc, however I do not belivie we will every find other human beings and certainly not aliens because they do not exist.

The more I thought about it I thought we are made in God's image, if there were other people they would have to look like us not a weird alien with big eyes, otherwise they very clealy would not be of God nor created by him. Ok, now I feel really really silly.

I was wondering, however if there is anything in scripture about this very subject. I know the topic is going to come up again and I want to be prepared.

Jodi :0)

I would have told the MIL yeah, don't you know we are the aliens living here on earth.
However not to insult God intelligence, it does say He created *all* the Heavesn and the earth.
