Trent Adams is a sweet kid with as good a personality as I've ever seen, and for the most part is a pretty good singer given his current level of maturity and his young age. But, in all honesty, he needs to watch his tone placement and pitch very carefully, and not just try to rattle the subwoofers every chance he gets on EVERY song. Too much 'flash' is simply TOO MUCH! It's still true: "Less Is More", and, "What goes in the mic is gonna come out of the speakers. Whether it's good or bad depends on the singer, not the equipment."
I've already noticed he's getting better at blending in harmonies and complimenting the other parts. He's not near as 'out front and in your face' all the time, like he used to be. I'm seeing a little bit of growth and maturity in Trent. (Keep it up, Dawg!!)
Now, I know all them little old ladies like to feel that rumble in their seats when he's workin' the subs. I also know why all the young girls swoon over him, and think he's a hunk, and all that jazz. I get that, believe me. That's OK, but that's not the real issue. You have to ask yourself often, "Is my part of the vocals helping or hindering the message getting out to the people?" (That's a sobering question, I know, but it begs to be asked of many of today's singers...)
I think if some of Trent's peers would work with him, encourage him, and give him solid advice (and, here's another big part of it-- if he would heed that advice), he could very well become one of THE best singers out there in a very short time. He's already come a long way, in just a couple of year's time. I predict that we'll be seeing a lot more out of this wonderful young man. I, for one am proud of you, dude! I wish for you continued confidence and a zeal to constantly better yourself vocally, and spiritually. Love ya, man....

I couldn't agree with you more when it comes to George. As I mentioned on another thread, George did "The Old Rugged Cross" acapella at our church's Easter Service several years ago. That was pure bass singing at its purest!

Let's see, I think the subject was "the best pure bass singer"!!!!
ED Oneal's has been mentioned briefly! He is one of the most pure bass singers going today. Not many people say he's their favorite or lowest or "whatever", but he is consistent. Oneal is a natural, he is smooth and right on pitch.
I doubt if anyone has ever heard him sing his bottom, that's just not his style. And he doesn't need the electronic equipment to make a bass singer out of him as a lot of them do.
He has to be near the top as PUREST bass singers, with Harold Gilley being THE BEST! George was one of my most favorite SINGERS, EVER, mainly because of his upper range solo ability, but probably not the purest.

All this talk about bass singers I thought I would add one to the list. I was listening to the Songfellows yesterday and Bob Jones had a bass by the name of Mike Schlee that can really sing bass. He easily hits a low G below low C and can carry the melody line beautifuly. He is extremely smooth and can sing the part without any electronic assistance. A very talented bass. I will try to upload a song so those of you that have not heard him can listen. I will post a link here when I have it ready.

No doubt Aaron's good, but have you listened to Tim Riley sing most of those songs? No comparison. Aaron sounds a lot like Tim, and given time for his young voice to mature, he will likely be even better. On "I'm Not Givin' Up" he was really struggling for the low Ab.

Some of the best advice I've seen for many, many bass singers. It's not about how low you can grunt, it's about the blend. Do you add to the overall sound or detract from the message? Well stated!

Tim Duncan and Glen Dustin are the two I enjoy listening to most today. Richard Sterban is still a great bass singer with the Oak Ridge Boys. I remember talking to him one week before he left the STamps and telling me he was leaving because he was frustrated singing and having a guy like JD Sumner come in behind him and hit a note two octvaes lower. Good career move Richard.
Armond was the best ever......

Charlie, I couldn't agree with you more.
Trent is one of my favorite people, and I've said for some time, I think he's going to be the next Jeremy Lile. And his talent, in addition to his humility and kindness makes him such a GREAT fit with Vonda, Nicole and Tony.
Hope's Journey ROCKS, as far as I'm concerned.

I'd have to agree that Jospeh Brown is probably THE best out there right now. I was just kidding about "BigCntry" in that previous post. He would, however get my vote for bestest bus driver... (sorry Cap'n and Mr. Walt...)

Yep, Trent's a great guy, and a good singer. He's just a little green-- but everyone has to grow. He's got no issues that some time and 'want-to' won't take care of!! I agree... the next Jeremy Lile.

A great singer and a real trooper too. Saturday night he developed a killer migraine just before the concert, went out and gave a great performance, and went straight to his bunk and crashed. Noone in the audience knew he wasn't 100 percent. He's O.K. now by the way.

Jeremy Lile has one of the best stage presences of the young up-and-coming basses.
