The unpardonable sin simply cannot be nailed to the Cross, because it is a willful rejection of Christ's payment for sin.
So it is NOT equal with sins which can be covered by Christ's Atonement. At least the outcomes of the two are certainly NOT equal!

If all sins aren't equal, can someone please rank order them?

drmark -> RE: Do you think All Sins are Equal? (5/13/2008 6:31:13 PM)

What criteria for ranking would you prefer, Closie?

NO! You are now trying to compare Apples to Oranges. YOU CANNOT COMPARE FORGIVEN SINS TO UNFORGIVEN, because you are trying to compare HIS MERCY to HIS RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT, or HIS SELF SACRIFICE FOR OUR SINS to HIS HOLINESS which CANNOT HAVE ANY SIN IN HIS PRESENCE. Sins ALL DESERVE ETERNITY IN HELL, therefore they are all judged equally as BAD by God, BECAUSE breaking ONE LAW MAKES YOU GUILTY OF BREAKING ALL OF THEM.

James 2:10 (HCSB)
10 For whoever keeps the entire law, yet fails in one point, is guilty of [breaking it] all.

THAT IS WHAT MAKES ALL SINS EQUAL.

You stated, "So it is NOT equal with sins which can be covered by Christ's Atonement." ; WHICH IS AN INCORRECT STATEMENT, because "forgiven sins" will be NO WHERE IN SIGHT COME JUDGEMENT DAY. It will be as if they NEVER existed. Christ's shed blood DOES NOT COVER SINS, it cleanses us from sin, and credits Christ's righteousness to our account.

2 Peter 1:8-9 (NKJV)
8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

Isaiah 43:25 (NASB)
25 "I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins.

Psalms 103:12 (NASB)
12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Romans 3:24-26 (HCSB)
24 They are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
25 God presented Him as a propitiation through faith in His blood, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His restraint God passed over the sins previously committed.
26 He presented Him to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be righteous and declare righteous the one who has faith in Jesus.

Philippians 3:9 (NKJV)
9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

1 John 1:9 (NKJV)
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Hebrews 10:10 (NKJV)
10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

SANCTIFICATION
Process of being made holy resulting in a changed lifestyle for the believer.
—Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary

Sorry, but your argument holds no water, because Scipture confirms that "FORGIVEN SINS" are flat GONE! They were washed totally away by Christ's shed blood. Therefore, they are not even there to compare to Unforgiven Sins. Now before we became Christians, every one of them was there, and EVER ONE OF THEM CO-EQUALLY required either a Holy Blood Sacrifice or Eternity in Hell. Each individual sin we have ever committed put Christ on the Cross.

Well, after doing a little research on the mathematical usage of "equal, identical, and equivalent", I've come to the not so surprising conclusion that the last three pages of this thread are one giant exercise in semantic misunderstanding. Thanks for all your time and effort, VCO. God bless you!

DaveW -> RE: Do you think All Sins are Equal? (5/17/2008 7:21:18 PM)

Yep. all semantics.

Yep. all semantics.

Too bad when major doctrinal positions are made on English semantic slants that have little to do with the original language texts.....

Then let me simplify my understanding of why all sins are equal.

WHY ALL SINS ARE EQUAL

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that does not make us guilty of breaking all of God's Law - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that is not a spot on our garment - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that did not put Christ on the Cross - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that is not offensive to God - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that can enter heaven - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that GOD can tolerate in His HOLY Presence - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that a Just, HOLY GOD will not Righteously punish with either a Holy Blood Sacrifice or Eternity in HELL - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that is not a result of our sin nature inherited from the fall of ADAM - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that does not need to be repented of - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that is not a hindrance to our Christian Walk and spiritual growth - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that is not short of the Glory of GOD - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

THERE IS NO SIN - - - that is not included in "the wages of sin is death" - - - IN THIS WAY THEY ARE ALL EQUAL.

From an earthly perspective, you could rank sins and show how one might have more bad effects than others, but from a heavenly perspective they are all equal as any sin separates us from God and the punishment of any sin is spitual death.
