I did say something. I tried to be nice and imply that I'm sure they didn't mean it that way, but I made sure they knew that kids aren't merchandise you exchange if you don't like it. I know not every foster child is going to work with the family they are placed with, and I'm not saying they should. But no one should go into fostering with that kind of mentality about those kids. It's not supposed to be about what the child can do for you, but what you can do for them.

I see it in our future...we talk about it all the time and knowing us, fostering will turn into adopting and we'll be starting all over!

lol@ Denny and Darcy quote:
How incredibly sad the discussion you came upon. With their frame of mind...I pray they don't become parents...period! That sad thing is the person who initially said those things and suggested it as an option to the other couple is a parent. Apparently only wanted children are worth some consideration. How someone who is a parent can think that way is beyond me. quote:
My friend Valerie would have loved to have laminated, highlighted and put flashing lights on this dealing with some staff issues at last year's camp... I totally understand! We do occasionally get people who want to volunteer for the glory it brings them, or so they can be the hero to a child. They want the kids to serve some need they have rather than serve the needs of the kids. The last thing those kids need is someone wanting to play lets rescue the poor little orphan child. They can sniff that attitude out in a second! Thankfully, those types of volunteers come along rarely for us, but we do occasionally have to remind people that this is totally not about us or how good it can make us feel. If that happens, then great, but it's a bonus God gifts us with and certainly not the proper motivation to go. I wish I had had more time to get to know Valerie when I met her. I liked her instantly!

How someone who is a parent can think that way is beyond me. Unfortunately, that is the modern mindset. Children are welcomed into a family only if they are wanted.
