Thanks iwillfear:

I am trying to get hold of a digital copy of the pic I have of that. If I don't get it, I will use the actual pic and scan it in: not as good a result, probably, but might do.

Wouldn't it be neat if those who are interested in this thread put their pictures up in an album, too? Hey, I did it...and no one flamed me! I'd be interested in seeing other's pics, too.

i don't have any dating profiles up but i have pics on myspace (link in my CW profile). the first album is me and i'm not sure what pics of me are better than others. maybe i should upload some more and ask for opinions if i go that route (not anytime soon) ...

We've got some new members, so I thought I would bump this thread up a bit so they can take advantage of it if they need to...

But I really do have a question to ask:

The guy that was slow in communicating answered me, saying that he was busy. So I said, hey, no problem, and asked him a few questions that would be easy to answer.

That was on 3/28.

No answer.

Do I close this match? Obviously the guy isn't interested...maybe he just doesn't know how to say "bye".

What should I do?

Hi besideherself,

Sorry to hear this. My eharmony matches and communications have slowed down drastically too. I had a close out a few myself. 3/28 is coming up on two weeks, yes? Maybe you can give him a couple more days and then decide to close him out on Monday morning if you haven't heard from him? Even if you close, if he's truly interested, he can try to reopen contact with you.

Others here might have a different answer ...

How much have you learned about him? Is it possible he has an irregular work schedule and hasn't had the chance to get back to you? What do your instincts tell you about your prior communication with him? Was he responsive? Or did he just answer your questions? You could be right that he maybe doesn't know how to bow out gracefully or he could truly be busy. If you find him interesting enough, give him a little more time.... just my thoughts.

Thanks for your input! As far as our communication so far: very little information has passed between us. For me, I don't think there was ever very much interest, but he did communicate with me first--which was the first time that has happened.

He doesn't work, so that's not the issue. I just think neither of us were that interested, and I'm not interested enough to keep nagging him to talk to me.

So I'll close it out today (because I'm going on a week-long trip tomorrow), maybe after sending a final "I don't think this is going to work" email.

Well, that makes sense then. If neither of you were espeically intrigued, closing is a good call. Carry on!

Ok, folks;

I finally figured out a way we can post our profile pictures for critique by other posters!

There is a link at the top and bottom of the page called "Photo Gallery". Anyone can start a photo album there, and put pics in it. You have to mess with them a bit to get them the right file size, but other than that it's a breeze.

besiderself

Hello, Besiderself!

Any tips on how to make photo files small enough? I tried to post mine, but they are too big. (BTW, I like the photos you've added!)

The pictures I tried to post are on Christian Mingle, which I don't believe we've discussed here yet. It's kind of nice because you can actually communicate in limited circumstances even when you're not a paying member. You can send smiles, and if a paying member sees you online, he can invite you to an instant message conversation. The profiles also allow more information than EH. So, kind of an interesting alternative.

How are things going on EH?

tri. do you mean too big as in their system won't let you upload them or they appear really large.
anyways i would recommend you make a copy of your picture so you are not editing your original. the next step would be to open in paint (paintbrush) which is in the accessories section of your start menu. inside paint, under the image menu there is an option called 'stretch/skew'. under stretch, you can put down a percentage small you'd like. put the same number under both horizontal and vertical. (75 would make the new image 75% of the size of the original for example). not sure how computer literate you are but let us know if you need more detailed help.

This was about to fall off the front page so I though I would ask a question I am curious about.

Do you think doing online matching takes your energy away from actively "looking" IRL? Even if it's in a small way.
For example if you are spending lots of time looking at profiles and analyzing yours is it in some way taking time or energy away from things you could be doing to maybe meet someone IRL. Just wondering

I think it can. I think there has to be a balance if you are online a lot. But all things being equal, I'd prefer to meet someone IRL. At least both of you know what you look like, you can read body language and the like. But, sometimes it is harder to get to know someone internally - you know - if the focus is on the physical part of a person.

I have decided I hate "Christian Mingle."

I first signed up because a bunch of people from here were doing it and reporting on their experiences. Every week or so, I go, see the matches they sent (many of which are "recycled" and don't bother to log onto the site.

For the last few days, I've been surprised to see people sending me smiles. So as usual, I respond in kind.

One person send me an e-mail. Hello? Did he not read the part of my profile where I say I am not a member and cannot read mail sent to me through this site? So I tried to amend my profile to make it crystal clear that I could not read mail, and apologize to people who sent me mail I could not read.

Apparently my amended profile got "flagged" and "edited." Not for the trail of bread crumbs to my yahoo mail, which was left intact, but because I had the audacity to state my own membership status.

I got some lame e-mail from the administrator stating that they don't allow people to state their membership status for fear people won't contact them. Hello? Isn't that my risk to take? No, I think it is because they want people to get mail they can't read, in order to "force" me to upgrade just so I could read their mail.

Meanwhile, guy in question sent a second, unreadable e-mail.

I responded to the last e-mail with a smile asking him to read my profile, and that's what I get in response. He's way old for me and lives on the other side of the state anyway. Whatever. I am soooo over dealing with men who apparently can't read.

yep, they want you to upgrade. i recall reading about shady dating sites sending out fake mails to unsubscribed people to bait them into subscribing. not accusing the site you mentioned of doing that but it's something to watch out for ...

It wouldn't surprise me ... I find the timing of the e-mail and the letter from admin AWFULLY suspicious.

She suggests I have them IM me ... yeah, right. That entails being logged on just hoping for an IM. Yeah, right.

well ya get whatcha pay for.. if you aren't gonna invest in it, then don't expect much in return.

The admins are running a business after all and trying to circumvent the way it works with the encoded email address isn't the greatest way to support them.

Use the free sites instead then, ( fusion101 ) (except the free sites are difficult to filter the crazies from the normal people =)
or use sites that allow you to mail back when someone mails you.
I remember trying Christian Cafe which at least every 3 months lets you back on for 4-5 days for full access and mail people back.

Well, I WOULD pay for it if they gave me anything worth paying for!

Anyway ... I wasn't asking to get around the e-mail thing ... I could have understood and supported them had they deleted that. No ... they just wouldn't let me put a little note in there that said, "please do not e-mail me, I cannot respond. I am not ignoring you."

But considering that all my matches are out of my area, want something I'm not or don't seem to be believers, I'm not too impressed with what's there.

Oh well, it was just an experiment anyway.

when you say all your matches are out of area, i think part of the problem with the small Christian niche sites is that people sign up, only see a few people somewhat in their area, and then don't come back or be active or are willing to pay a fee. plenty of fish is a free site that allows somewhat detailed searches including keywords of your choice so you could find people who put church or Jesus or bible in their interests area. I could be wrong on this but i am not sure that you can really be broad like Christian as i think that picks up what people have in their religion selection (which doesn't really mean a lot except to weed some people out).

A common story I hear among some people in happy marriages is that they MET ON LINE but NOT on a dating site! They were playing games, talking about writing books, or meeting friends on Crosswalk.

Maybe we're all just putting too much thought into it ...

I think this is true.

I've met more people here than I've met anywhere else. I paid for a year on Christian cafe and have not had so much as a conversation with anyone on there.

Oh, okay - some of the "old timers" might remember.

Very cool! We're glad you're here.

The thing that irritates me is that people can't get past the picture - they don't read anything about me. They just see "pretty" and have to contact me. READ the profile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It would weed out 95% of them!

I have the same problem. I look so good that I have all the grandmas and octegenarians sending me smiles. Those younger folks must just be too intimidated by my picture to talk to me.
