Hey...no problemo. You guys are my friends, right? So we can have a little fun on here, and should I'm thinking. Because this whole aching subject gets a bit heavy sometimes.

Frankly, eHarmony etc. is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth. I've paid for it, so I'm stuck using it, but right now it seems pretty pointless to me. Maybe others have found their loves on eHarmony or whatever, but it must be pretty much a million-in-one shot. I feel a lot more involved here on Crosswalk, though there's not as many guys in my demographic. Besides, here we can really act on scriptural principles...loving one another supporting one another and encouraging one another to good works whether or not we are in each other's "demographic". Whereas on dating sites you're there for ONE reason, and one reason only.

I'm thinkin'...there are a lot of you all that I will never meet in person...until The Day. When that Day comes, we're all going to meet in person! And we'll be perfect...and because of Crosswalk we'll have history and foundation in our relationships--it'll just be icing on the cake to actually see all of you and hug you and eat the Wedding Breakfast with you and spend eternity asking God all the questions we've been storing up.

But on eHarmony...nothing like that happens. And maybe I meet someone here in my demographic and maybe I don't...if I don't meet anyone here, I still haven't lost anything. I've gained--gained Christian friends, prayer support, encouragement. If I don't meet anybody on eHarmony...I've lost twice.

Do you think doing online matching takes your energy away from actively "looking" IRL? Even if it's in a small way.
For example if you are spending lots of time looking at profiles and analyzing yours is it in some way taking time or energy away from things you could be doing to maybe meet someone IRL. Just wondering

Nadine;

If there were anybody to look FOR here, I would be doing that! I certainly prefer IRL! But as there is not currently any possibility...nope. I don't think for me it takes any energy away. It helps me feel like I have some input and am taking some action rather than just waiting....and waiting....and waiting. I realize this is somewhat of a head game: that's ok. It helps me be more patient and less self-pitying. Trust me, if a guy comes along IRL, I will not be hanging out wasting my time on eHarmony!!! I'll just waltz by the computer on my way out the door to meet my date and in passing I will stick my tongue out at it!!

Trinigirl;

Did you ever solve your problem getting your pictures small enough? There are more ways than just using Paint, but that one is probably the most accessible to most people.

Yet also add 2,000 for remembering to include a disclaimer.

Ahem. Yes, so now back to the subject. In case the post was missed by the angels and others caught up in the angel discussion; and at risk of giving the impression that I'm enamored by my own words--I re-post my thoughts so that people visiting this thread don't get the idea that it's gone completely off topic.

One thing I didn't mention about Christian Mingle earlier is that they post events sponsored by singles groups in your area. So, I found out about a Christian singles group here in the DFW area, which is kind of nice since I haven't live here that long, so a good opportunity to meet people. I'm on their Meet Up list now, and they have all kinds of events which are just a good chance for fellowship with other Christians. So I thought that was kind of a cool side-benefit of the CM site. (And obviously this offers the opportunity to observe others in a group, which in my opinion is the best way to get to know someone before actually dating him.)

Trini;

Hey, now that's neat! It would be hard for me to fit such events into my schedule, but I might go over to CM and check it out anyway, just for the info.

Yeah, I thought it was kind of cool! So far I've only been able to attend one get-together, but it's at least nice to have that option.

The CM site says their goal is to let people "mingle," so you can put if you're just looking for friends or if you're interested in something more serious. So the area event links are an extension of the "mingling" goal. I think you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to see those links.

When I moved to Dallas I joined a church that doesn't have a singles group, so this was really nice to learn about.

saw this newsweek article linked on front page of msn.com today: Penthouse Gets Pious

Christian dating web site BigChurch.com's motto is "Bringing people together in love and faith." A pointed quote from the Old Testament ("A man will leave his father and his mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." Gen. 2:24) precedes the site's Bible-verse search library. So it may surprise users that BigChurch.com has a decidedly promiscuous corporate parent: Penthouse Media Group Inc. At a time when ever-raunchier Internet porn has made such mainstream mags as Penthouse and Playboy seem like throwbacks to more innocent times, these well-established brands have been trying to diversify and reinvent themselves

What's really sad is that I'm not all that surprised.

It's just....

sad.

and disgusting.

Makes you wonder who other matching site's "corporate parents" are.

Meh.
