I go to LifeWay Christian Store near my home a couple of times a week, and they almost always have the Kendrick Brothers' first feature FLYWHEEL playing on the big TV screen on the back wall. Now since GIANTS is their most notable success, why they insist on showing this FAR inferior film (and that's saying something) all day long is beyond me. I feel sorry for the employees. Some folks have commented to me privately that I'm a little too harsh in my criticisms of the Kendricks and their efforts. Quite the contrary, I applaud them and their church for having the vision and dedication to get the films made in the first place. However, at the end of the day, FACING THE GIANTS is constantly lauded as this landmark achievement in Christian entertainment, and while that may have some merit, even a cursory comparision between GIANTS and any mainstream film you care to name reveals just how far we have to go before we can produce films that can indeed stand up to standard Hollywood fare (with regards to acting, directing, etc). We're majoring in the minors here, and something tells me we can do better.
