I can do that! Harvie and I both use this site to help us track nutritional info. Under the "create your diet" link, you can set up an account and log foods and exercise each day. You can hit the "analysis" tab in your account after logging foods that summerize your nutritional stats. Harvie introduced me to it, and it's a good site.

Get God involved. Your siggy says it all rose (I lost 5kg once just through prayer and never put it on again.) (PS - 5kg is about 12lbs I think)

I have trouble with that, too, deb. What has helped me was paying for a class that eventually led to private lessons. Having friends and a coach to expect me has kept me exercising for 5 years. Next month is my 5 year anniversary, and I am amazed that I have done it for so long.

Well, I've been sharing bits and pieces about my journey after heart surgery and so far, I've lost 148 pounds. When I started this diet, I decided to do it sensibly. It's been two years since my surgery and the weight has come off gradually. I've found that people who do these crash course, easy diets --- always, ALWAYS fail. A proper diet has to become part of a disciplined daily lifestyle. You know, I've lost all of my weight without spending a dime on diet gimmicks. I've managed to still eat all the foods I love to eat --- including an occasional Snickers bar! The key is moderation. Last fall, I ran the New York City marathon and now I'm training for a triathlon. Am I at my goal yet? No. I've still got about 30 pounds to lose. Christ calls us to run a good race --- it's been my observation that life is a marathon. I am living testimony that gimmicks don't work. But hard work, determination, a great support team, and constant prayer will accomplish the impossible! The sovereign Lord is our strength! todd's incredibly bizarre blog

Yup, moderation is the key!! The problem I have with plugging in a food log is I have no idea how much I'm eating and I don't feel like measuring! I think as long as I eat till I'm satisfied (not stuffed!), and make wise food choices, I'll be ok! I have done the South Beach diet before, but I don't really want to do that at this point while nursing. Not the strict phase anyway.

I felt that way, too, but started measuring and counting to see if I was eating a serving or two and to see how it added up to compare it with recommendations for my food intake. When I started, I found that I wasn't making wise choices or eating in moderation. Measuring isn't so bad if you have the tools for it. My scale made a big difference in how I felt about measuring because it filled a need that I had that my measuring cups didn't fill. I wish your way had worked for me, but I just didn't have the discipline to make myself eat in moderation. I hope by the time I lose the weight that I will be disciplined and won't have to measure for the rest of my life. Funny how we all have different methods and ideas and feelings.

The food scale helps. Some portions are real tiny (like for rice and pasta)

I have a confession. Confession is good for the soul, right? I'm sure I'll get blasted for this, but well, here it is. When I started on this eating plan, I had every intention of making it as healthy as possible. After all, I'm doing it for health benefits more than weight loss. However, I would get lazy here & there and skip this portion of the meal or that to save time (I'm taking some really tough classes right now). I did well... too well perhaps. I wasn't hungry. There were no cravings because all the sugar was out of my system. I was feeling great. So one night I went to bed early and skipped dinner. Yeah, I was hungry the next morning, but no biggie. So another night, I just forgot about dinner after coming home to hit the books. Another day, I didn't have time for breakfast, or dinner that evening. Still, I *felt* fine. But I'm not ok with this. It's not healthy. This morning, I'm going onto phase II to include whole grains, fruits, etc. back into the diet. I had only gone without these for 10 days to *jump-start* the plan and cleanse my system. (It has a wonderful affect of bringing the blood sugar and cholesterol levels back to normal when I do it this way.) So, I'm having a bowl of regular oatmeal and a cup of tea. *smile* It feels good to be back to normal.

Thanks. Last time I had this type of pain, I had a sinus infection- which I am prone to. I'm sure it is that. Sugar cravings should decrease after 10 days. Personally, I'd be strict for 30 days to get myself in the habit... but after 10 days you should be able to tell a noticeable difference.

HisCovenant. I hope you feel better soon. Oh no, I'm not a regular meal-skipper at all. I usually have to eat 4-6 times a day - 3 meals + snacks. But while I'm on this phase, I just wasn't hungry. I might have a spoonful of peanut butter in the evening, but I wasn't really hungry. quote:
Anyone know how long it takes to get rid of a sugar addiction? I'm trying to rid myself of the bad white products and it's hard, especially at night. For me, if I lay off ALL carbs (anything that will turn to sugar in the blood stream including breads and fruits), I will get a headache on about the 3rd or 4th day. That's a sign that I'm going through "withdrawal" symptoms. I know there's a more medical reason for it, like blood sugar levels dropping, but that's how I've always "seen" it. When insulin levels return to normal, intense cravings for sweet foods diminishes.
