I have a question...what do my settings have to on...when indeed I do have 50 posts...in order to see the picture...should I have any of the avatar boxes marked?

When you upload an avatar, pick that option. It will appear when you get to 50 posts...

When you upload it, don't forget to click "Apply" then "OK"... and select the "Upload my picture" option too.. or it doesn't do any good to upload one.

You uploaded in the "profile photo" section. You have to upload a photo in the "My avatar" section... It's right above the "profile photo" section.
