We know from carvings, reliefs, and portrait that the Roman style of hair was similar to an average haircut today. That probably became the style as the Empire soaked up other countries and cultures. carvings from other regions suggest long hair. Egyptians shaved their heads at one time. Rule of thumb: hair is a style, not a standard.

I had long hair when I was saved (I grew it out as an experiment, hated it and cut it short). I also had long hair when I was baptized. Does this mean I have to get saved and baptized again, now that my hair is short? [:D]

I never thought about it, but when the term "biblical times" is brought up, that is the immediate assumption isn't it?

But if you think about it, Biblical times span such a long time that I'm sure men had all sorts of different hair styles. When the topic of hair and Biblical times comes up I always think of Sampson.

When one's hair is short, one does not have to think about how one's hair looks, and it is basically maintenance free. It always looks OK. And you don't have to think about it any more. This leaves men free to do what nature intended them to do - bring home the bread. And women having long hair, enhances what nature intended them to do. Ask any honest man - long hair looks good on a woman.

I am wondering what the verse that was quoted, 1Cor11:14, meant in context. Out of context it is a bit confusing. If we are to look to nature for hair length perhaps we should review the lion. Female: short hair. Male: huge mane. Maybe the peacock. Female:short drab feathers. Male: long flashy feathers. (actually in the bird kingdom the male is the more flashy.) In most mammals you cannot tell male from female by hair length. They tend to be fairly uniform between the sexes. However, since it seems to be concerned with headdresses and such, maybe it was the method of displaying the length that was the problem. I am not sure, I am not a very learned bible scholar yet.

I'm not touching that one. HERE is a link to a post that IMO answered it perfectly. The men in Corinth that Paul was referencing had SUPER long hair (like to the ankles long). I first heard about this from a Southern Baptist pastor in reaction to one of the deacons telling me I needed to cut my hair (it came down between my shoulders).

How about instead of a "bible search" for verse numbers (that weren't put there by the original inspired writers) we actually read the whole bible for context and not just take a verse here and there and try to make it stand alone to make it say what we want it to? Let's look at the Nazarite Vow - A part of it was to not put a razor to your hair. So, we can obviously (yes obviously because hair grows whether you want it to or not) conclude that having long hair wasn't, and isn't, a sin.
