I prefer to go to the bathroom alone, but that could be my hang up. I can't seem to go if I have company.

Hannah is always in the bathroom with me, lol! We use it as potty training 'training' for her, not me! And sometimes Jael will hear us back there and crawl and get us. The only time I get to go to the toilet alone is when the girls are napping.

I have some problems that cause me to take a long time in the bathroom. There are no dangers for Timmy in the house, so I don't worry about him. He usually wants to play in the bathtub while I'm in there anyway. But, if I can't guarantee that Jimmy will be happy in exersaucer the whole time, I put him in it just outside the bathroom door, so I can talk to him, ask Timmy to give him a binky or toy, etc. I don't have a problem with people watching me go to the bathroom. Growing up, me and mom never closed the bathroom door. I'd stand there and do my make up or whatever while she was going to the bathroom, or I'd go to the bathroom when she was showering or whatever. Privacy wasn't an issue for us. When my boys are older, they won't be coming in the bathroom with me though. But, if I had girls, I wouldn't care.

Wouldn't we all?!! It's just that needs must - and for me it was a question of putting my child's safety and happiness above my own wish for privacy. What a treat it was though, when my ds was 4 and started school, and my dd was down for a nap and I could go on my own!

I personally do believe that them coming to the loo with you can help with early potty training, because if they've been coming in with you for as long as they can remember, they are already acclimatised to what is supposed to go on there and it's not such a strange thing for them.

I always take Levi with me, unless he's sleeping. Of course, he's only 2 months. But, he lays on the boppy pillow that's always nearby.

Levi rolled from his tummy to his back today!! He was on the couch, so there was the slightest incline to help, but I still thought it was very impressive!!!

I'm sorry, but this cracked me up. I totally understand.

Well, right now, Levi is in a toilet diving, cat box messing stage. If I blink too slow, he'll be throwing something in the toilet (yes, right through my legs!) or munching on kitty crunchies. All the while, Hannah is standing next to me, directing my pottying as if I have never done it before. It just saves my sanity to put him somewhere safe and potty without having to protect Levi from things and things from Levi.

Levi just got his first real injury. He bashed his forehead on the corner of the coffee table. I thought we may be headed to the ER for stitches, but I think it's okay now. It's stopped bleeding and it's not gaping open. And he's running around like nothing happened not 20 minutes later. If I got a booboo like that, I'd be out for the rest of the day and have a massive headache the next! Kids...

We never did blanket training (though I think I might learn about that for the next kiddo)

from what I have read negatively about it online, I suggest you just start a thread here and ask us experienced moms cause most of the online stuff is in a negative way (spanking them for getting off, etc) and that is NOT what we do. You can easily accomplish it without that!!! We used to have a thread on it....might be gone now though.
ok...I looked it up for you....HERE is the discussion on it.

we do blanket training...basically teach them to sit and stay on a blanket or area we designate unless we are there with them.
Some people us a play pen (I know Donna does)...but we didn't have one til baby #3 and she used it for a bed, so she didn't want to play in it.[/color]

HOw do you train them to stay on it?

We do have a play pen, but it's upstairs and she naps in it and hates being in it otherwise. We don't have an excersaucer, but a walker. She can't move it on the carpet, so it's a good method for short periods of time, but then she gets frustrated because she wants to go, so I can't leave her in there for extended periods.

We are trying to baby proof, but there are so many dangers, I don't know how to make some rooms safe. our family room is the most baby proofed, but we have a large heat register on the floor that she tries to crawl on (it's not a heater, just a place where heat comes out) and it looks unsafe but I don't know how to keep her off of it. Then there is the computer desk - she dearly wants to crawl under it to get the cords and blinking green & yellow lights. Then there are the stairs...i can use a babygate. also the family room is open to the formal living room and she can crawl in there - now the TV, bookshelves, etc... we are hoping to get a entertainment center to hide the cords and keep the TV safe. also, the family room on the other end has a small doorway that opens to the kitchen. again I can use a babygate there tho, but I can't see what she is doing in the family room.

we do have a high chair and that entertians her for awhile. she still goes in her swing some and she can be in that for quite awhile without getting bored (especially if she is sleepy).

Another question: how do you get a shower with a little one? i am far to clumsy to take her into the shower with me.

If I am going to take them in with me, it is only when Brian is home, so he can take the wiggly little one after they are clean.

As for my own showers...once they are too big to bring in the bathroom in the bouncer or whatever, I try to shower during their morning nap. Once they drop the morning nap, they're usually big enough to be content in the pack n play while I shower. I can see the one in the kitchen from the shower if I leave the door open.

I probably should have taken Levi for stitches or medical glue yesterday. Oy. He has soaked through several bandaids now and it still isn't scabbed over. Right now, I've got a butterfly strip holding it tight together. Too late for stitches now anyway...

I take a shower either at night when hubby is home, get up early in the morning before he does, or take one during his nap. I guess I could put him in the shower with me, but I rather take it alone.

I try and shower at night after both of the kids are asleep or when Daddy is home to watch them. Sometimes Ella showers with me.

Bath time is a messy endeavor now. John Cooper thinks it is fun to throw his wet basketball tub toys at Momma.

I shower whenever. Gabby is good about sitting in her Bumbo and playing with toys for the 35-40 minutes it takes me to get ready in the morning.

Lol. She is quickly outgrowing her Bumbo but she is sitting up well enough that she can sit in her little blowup bathtub while I get ready in the morning. Otherwise I would have to wake with the roosters or wait until 9 for naptime.

Aww ... dreams of a hot shower ...

We are in an older house which only has a bathtub, so I get two options -- before the kids are up in the morning, or after they are in bed at night. If hubby and I are lucky enough to go away somewhere overnight, the first thing we do when we arrive at the hotel is see who can claim the shower the quickest! (Dh usually wins, as most times I have a dress or two to hang up ... whereas he pitches everything on the bed and heads for the shower!)

Well, I do take Biruk in with me if he's awake. He loves it. I get in first and then lift him in, no troubles.

However, I love long, scalding hot showers, so I either get up early and enjoy my quiet time in the shower, or have a shower when dh is home and can do crowd control.

Donna, hope Levi's head heals up quick. For all the tumbles down stairs we've had, it's amazing not one of mine has split a forhead or a chin open.

Three boys and NONE, Maggie??? Wow! You must keep them locked up. Have you been to the ER with any of them for anything? We seem to go through spurts here.
