Am I missing something here? What's the problem with taking your baby/toddler to the bathroom with you, however long a visit it is?? I prefer to go to the bathroom alone, but that could be my hang up. I can't seem to go if I have company.

ORIGINAL: manda59 Am I missing something here? What's the problem with taking your baby/toddler to the bathroom with you, however long a visit it is?? My two always came with me. I have some problems that cause me to take a long time in the bathroom. There are no dangers for Timmy in the house, so I don't worry about him. He usually wants to play in the bathtub while I'm in there anyway. But, if I can't guarantee that Jimmy will be happy in exersaucer the whole time, I put him in it just outside the bathroom door, so I can talk to him, ask Timmy to give him a binky or toy, etc. I don't have a problem with people watching me go to the bathroom. Growing up, me and mom never closed the bathroom door. I'd stand there and do my make up or whatever while she was going to the bathroom, or I'd go to the bathroom when she was showering or whatever. Privacy wasn't an issue for us. When my boys are older, they won't be coming in the bathroom with me though. But, if I had girls, I wouldn't care.

Well, right now, Levi is in a toilet diving, cat box messing stage. If I blink too slow, he'll be throwing something in the toilet (yes, right through my legs!) or munching on kitty crunchies. All the while, Hannah is standing next to me, directing my pottying as if I have never done it before. It just saves my sanity to put him somewhere safe and potty without having to protect Levi from things and things from Levi.

ORIGINAL: peculiar_lady2 we do blanket training...basically teach them to sit and stay on a blanket or area we designate unless we are there with them. Some people us a play pen (I know Donna does)...but we didn't have one til baby #3 and she used it for a bed, so she didn't want to play in it.[/color] HOw do you train them to stay on it? We do have a play pen, but it's upstairs and she naps in it and hates being in it otherwise. We don't have an excersaucer, but a walker. She can't move it on the carpet, so it's a good method for short periods of time, but then she gets frustrated because she wants to go, so I can't leave her in there for extended periods. We are trying to baby proof, but there are so many dangers, I don't know how to make some rooms safe. our family room is the most baby proofed, but we have a large heat register on the floor that she tries to crawl on (it's not a heater, just a place where heat comes out) and it looks unsafe but I don't know how to keep her off of it. Then there is the computer desk - she dearly wants to crawl under it to get the cords and blinking green & yellow lights. Then there are the stairs...i can use a babygate. also the family room is open to the formal living room and she can crawl in there - now the TV, bookshelves, etc... we are hoping to get a entertainment center to hide the cords and keep the TV safe. also, the family room on the other end has a small doorway that opens to the kitchen. again I can use a babygate there tho, but I can't see what she is doing in the family room. we do have a high chair and that entertians her for awhile. she still goes in her swing some and she can be in that for quite awhile without getting bored (especially if she is sleepy). Another question: how do you get a shower with a little one? i am far to clumsy to take her into the shower with me.

I take a shower either at night when hubby is home, get up early in the morning before he does, or take one during his nap. I guess I could put him in the shower with me, but I rather take it alone.

I shower whenever. Gabby is good about sitting in her Bumbo and playing with toys for the 35-40 minutes it takes me to get ready in the morning.

She is quickly outgrowing her Bumbo but she is sitting up well enough that she can sit in her little blowup bathtub while I get ready in the morning. Otherwise I would have to wake with the roosters or wait until 9 for naptime.

Aww ... dreams of a hot shower ... We are in an older house which only has a bathtub, so I get two options -- before the kids are up in the morning, or after they are in bed at night. If hubby and I are lucky enough to go away somewhere overnight, the first thing we do when we arrive at the hotel is see who can claim the shower the quickest! (Dh usually wins, as most times I have a dress or two to hang up ... whereas he pitches everything on the bed and heads for the shower!)
