Thanks for all your responses, ladies! It's given us a lot to talk/think about. Someone asked if I'm feeling obligated because she's a friend, and my answer is DEFINITELY NOT! She is a very good friend and I actually offered (casually) to watch him while she was pregnant since I knew I would eventually be staying home. I *did* think he'd be a bit older, though, but because she doesn't have mat leave right now she has to go back to work sooner rather than later. They're planning to have another though, and then she'd be going off on mat leave for a year ... so I'd only be watching him for nine months or so and then have a year off [:D] I'm leaning towards doing it, because it would be a wonderful way to bless my friend (she said she really wants to leave him with someone she trusts 100% and who she knows will be a good influence on him [:)]) as well as save her some hassle. At the day care, there's "set" days - so the baby would be there Mondays, Wednesdays, and every other Friday, so if she was unable to switch her shifts for those days, I'd still have to watch him! I will definitely encourage her to keep the spot if it's not a financial burden to them.
