ORIGINAL: 3cappuccinosmom Biruk has lately started to resist diaper and clothing changes. I could swat, but so far a very authoritative NO usually stops it immediately. If not, I just lean over and hug him until he stops trying to jump off the table. Oooo, that's been a real problem with me lately. I try singing to him, or giving him a toy to play with, but I've had limited success. Sometimes it gets so bad, I have to lean over to restrain his torso with my body and try to change the diaper from an angle. He's getting strong, and it gets really frustrating when changes take 5 times longer then needed. I have a few tips......if the tings Maggie said don't work yet, and you have to resort to restraining him, try it this way. Lay a towel or blanket on the floor (cause it's easier to clean then the carpet!!!), If you are right handed, lay him with his head facing your left. Then put your leg over him...bending your knee over his torso. Your leg is much stronger then his body...and this should work til he learns to stop fighting. That's one stage I HATE...the physically demanding and fighting back stage. It doesn't last long though usually...then they go to wanting to do it with you....then they want to do it by themselves without ANY help from you at all no matter how stuck they get their head or arms!!!! LOL.

ORIGINAL: Sideways Okay, how is the floor easier then the changing table? Seems it would more difficult, no? When they're little, the changing table is easier, but when they squirm, the floor is easier because you can use your legs to pin their arms down. Ever since Sarah advised me on how to hold Jimmy down to use the snot sucker, I've been changing his diaper that way too.

Sandy your expressions make me laugh so much sometimes. I nearly snotted out my orange juice reading your post today! Thanks for checking on Prudent too!! For those who were following Nath. He is doing a little better. I have been keeping a chart of when he eats, sleeps, is happy etc. I have been giving him solids 2 times a day plus all my breast feeding (he wouldn't take the formula). He has been feeding about 7.30-8.30 ish at night waking at about 10.30 for acuddle then going back down til 1 or 1.30 having a feed then waking at 5 or 5.30 and then going back to sleep sometimes. Today that it was 5am and he was bu uh uh buh'ing me with his beautiful blue eyes... He has had 4 poo's this week too, all normal. So I think he goes through stages with those, some weeks its one and then others it is a few. He still is having a little trouble with his wind but it has got a little better with the solids and the ant acid.

That goes along with that parenting law...that you spend your kid's first two years trying to get them to walk and talk and the next fifteen trying to get them to sit down and shut up.

I agree with some of Babywise. I agree with encouraging a eat/wake/sleep cycle during the day, followed by eat/sleep at night time. I think this helps to get their days and nights sorted out. I agree with trying to keep the baby awake in order to eat a full meal (thus getting to the hindmilk) instead of just snacking (on foremilk). Doing so will likely enable the baby to go longer between "meals" than they would've had they just snacked. I agree with waking the baby, if necessary, during the day if they are going longer than 3 1/2 hours between feedings. Because is they go 5 hrs during the day - they certainly will not go 5 hrs during the night. I don't agree with all the motivation behind their points. Like whoever used the feeding on a plane story - I believe the baby should be nursed to help with ear pressure. And certainly to be respectful of the people onboard - by offering the breast if the baby was fussy even if you know the baby isn't really hungry. (That is if the baby will even take the breast. Almost all my babies refused to nurse if they weren't hungry - not too convenient at times like those!)

yep Tammy I agree with all those points too, but I wouldn't say they are "Ezzo's" you find them in most parenting books I think.

I always preferred the floor anyway as it (obviously!) means they can't wriggle or turn and fall off it! I always changed our two on the floor in our tiny bathroom, between the toilet and the washbasin, on a changing mat. I always gave them a toy or some other object to hold, and so long as they were holding that, there was then only the legs to control, and that can be done mostly with one hand.

I sometimes use the "wrestling hold" by holding John Cooper down with my legs while I change his diaper. Today he said for the very first time, "I want my Mama"
