If we had a king size bed though I would have been more apt to cosleep for a longer period of time.

No kidding. I seriously don't know how parents can co-sleep in less than a king size bed. My hubby and I are large but not obese, and when Jimmy's in bed with us, we can't move much.

So, I have to stick my foot in my mouth from another thread. Jimmy crawled off the bed yesterday. I had the baby monitor on, but we weren't fast enough. He was fine because our boxspring is on the floor, not on a frame, so it wasn't a big fall, but still, my heart hurt. So, I shoved the missing side of the crib between the bed and crib just for now to buy me some more time. He can pull up on it, but he can't get himself over it yet. Soon, I'll have to actually attched the missing side back onto the crib and then no more co-sleeping. That is, if I have enough energy to actually put him back when he's done nursing. Right now, I don't even have to get up, I just roll him back into his own bed from our bed.

Timmy started singing. He did it for a little bit then stopped for some reason. But, he actually doesn't sing, he yells the last syllable of every line. It is hilarious! I'll try to get him on video soon.

Yeah, I slept most nights in the guest bed just because neither my hubby nor I were comfortable with all three of us in our queen size bed together. I am going to make sure one way or another we are keeping that bed when we have the next baby. It was so nice having a another bed to get into and hubby was much happier not having to sleep on a couch.

I thought I had a good sleeper to report, as Biruk slept Monday night 9pm-8am, only waking once at 5.30 to eat. But last night he was up all night, completely bonkers, crawling all over us, refusing to nurse, etc. Not cute.

He's cute during the day though. Yesterday he pulled up on the piano bench and reached up to hit the keys, and then moved up and down experimenting with the different sounds he was making. Also doing that funny little baby dance they do when they won't take their feet off the ground.

I think if Gabby had demanded that we cosleep then I would have bought one of the Arms Reach cosleepers, I couldn't have slept away from Micah for that long.

Christina....how far off the floor is your bed? If he's big enough to crawl off of it he's big enough to teach how to get down on his belly and slide off safely. I have taught all of mine at that stage....once they were crawling I taught them that one.

We found out the hard way when ds #3 learned to crawl - he hadn't crawled prior to this event. He was asleep on our bed (dh was in the basement, and I was on the bed beside ds, reading with dd). I *really* had to use the bathroom, so I left ds sleeping, and dd reading her book on our bed. Ds woke up and saw the dog on the floor at the end of the bed ... just up and started crawling to her ... ended up falling off the bed and hitting his head on the night table. A trip to the ER and four staples later ... aargh!) He decided after that crawling was painful -- and waited another month and up and walked.

We have a king size bed and I can't imagine co-sleeping in anything smaller! I swear somehow Mary manages to take up 60% of the bed.

when we were in Germany we had military furniture...and they had two sizes of beds....twin and double. So we started out on a double and ended up calling housing and getting two twins that we pushed together and put a foam mattress on top of to make a King size. That was great!!!! When we moved here and didn't have any furniture (because we had used Army furniture for a few years) a friend of my moms was getting rid of a bed, so she offered it to us. We took it...no matter what size it was, it was better then the floor!!! It is a queen size though, and we find it a bit difficult to all three be in the bed at once, which is why Jack ended up in his play pen in our room at night. Paul moves him when he is good and asleep again. Now though he sleeps all night in his room (moved him in there back in October)...and if he wakes up in the morning before Paul goes to work he lays him down with me.
Of course it helps that hubby gets up at 4:30 to go to work...and I don't get to bed before 12 or 1...so it's only a few hours that we are both there together.

I can't even co-sleep with my dh in anything less than a king-size bed, so I don't know how anyone can manage a baby in there too! I found a king-size bed too small for co-sleeping with a baby (but then again I can't sleep with any part of my body touching anyone else, dh or baby!)

Sarah, our bed is 15 inches off the floor. Not a big fall. I think if Jimmy was more skilled, I might be able to teach him to get off the bed, but he has no balance at all. He might land on his feet, but then he'd fall straight back onto his back.

keep working with him....teach him to push himself backwards on his belly to the edge, then teach him to sit down on the floor. Teach him by you doing it for him with his body. You should be able to get it pretty quickly...esp since your bed is pretty low. (if it were higher I was going to suggest putting the mattresses on the floor instead of a frame for now til he learns)

It is an important skill. And if his feet hit the floor before his head, that is going to take some of the force away. Plus, this is the best way to get off the couch, down stairs, etc-and mobile babies need to know that. He may not be proficient at first but you'll be glad later on that he had been practicing.

I'll never forget Nate at less than two finding a ladder that was being stored in my grandmother's garage, and when we found him he'd gone all the way to the top and was coming back down If he'd turned around before climbing down he'd have been hurt badly.

Also, you should always get on and off a train (especially a moving one) facing the train. Obviously, a toddler is probably not going to be hopping a freight train, lol, but is a life-long skill (and yes, both of my kids have hopped freight trains...one has driven one, the other drove a trolley and burned out the engine. I just love daddy-boy time! LOL)

My little boy is too funny. But I'm not really sure what to do.
When he eats his cereal, he's not very good about opening his mouth. I got frustrated because he acts like he wants it, but then I put the spoon in and he bites it. So I walked away and left the bowl and spoon on his tray, and he took the bowl and started eating the cereal out of the side of it...like a drinking glass!! So after that, I started feeding him with the spoon and shoveling it in just as fast as I could and he loved it! What a kid.
He loves glasses, always tries to steal mine when I'm drinking water....is it bad to let my son drink his cereal out of the bowl???

LOL....my only suggestion is to strip him down and start the bath water, then when he's done take the diaper off and into the water he goes....lol...and of course have the camera ready!!!

You're probably right. Our bed is actually not on a frame, it's a mattress on a boxspring on the floor.

I don't think my hubby will go for it though. He was ready to attach the side of crib back on, but I talked him out of it by showing him how Jimmy can't get over the rail when it's on the floor wedged between the beds. I'll have to take a picture. It's kinda hard to explain.

yeah I understand. I still say you need to teach him the proper way to get down though. If he can crawl (which obviously now he can) then he can learn how to crawl down. Some kids naturally teach themselves how to do it, but some you have to teach or show a few times. All of my kids have picked up on it pretty fast though, some on their own some because of me showing them....pretty much within a few days they could do it on their own though.

I think I will. Maybe hubby will be convinced when he sees that Jimmy can do it.

I did take a picture though.

maybe so...and if he doesn't want to teach him then that's fine, but that doesn't mean you can't teach him.

yeah that's what I thought you meant by the crib side.

I just made a poll in the parenting folder, not sure how to link to it, but I would love everyone's input!
