Is that a copycat version of America's Got Talent?

lol

No, it's vice versa. It was here first (as I am sure you know!)

LOL! Aren't pretty much all reality shows done over here copycat versions of shows from Britain or Europe?

(For the longest time, I kept calling American Idol "American Pop Idol" because I was used to the British title.)

BTW- aga- I love your sig!

I thought of agapetos' sig at church on Sunday!! We had a shared lunch, and one lady made up a pineapple with fruit and marshmallow "kebab" type things stuck in it. One type had a strawberry, a blueberry and a grape .......................... but I couldn't help noticing another type, which no-one was taking, which had a strawberry, a blueberry and a tomato!! lol

I love my fruits and veggies- but that doesn't sound good even to me!

My step-mom makes a salad with Romaine lettuce, red onions and strawberries that is very good. It has a sweet dressing over it... made with veg. oil and a smidge of sugar.

How is TV in the UK compared to the US? Is it more or less family oriented?

I think it depends on your definition of family friendly

Minimal violence, foul language, sex and no occult practices.

Minimal violence - I should think about the same

foul language - but any foul language just sounds so much better with an accent

sex - I'd say the difference might be the glimpses of nudity over there vs here, although the sexual aspect is probably not as widespread over there - you know Americans are just sex-crazed after all

no occult practices - you mean like the shows Supernatural and Ghose Whisperer?

I've heard they have less, but don't know for sure.

I've heard they have more on their airwaves, again, I don't know for sure.

I've never seen the shows.

The shows I've watched have the same amount of violence in them, but it depends on the show as to the limits. And who knows about the editing - if it was changed for the states or not.

From what I've seen, the sex stuff is more insinuated and comedic than the graphic nature of shows like Nip/Tuck.

Occult practices - I wasn't really sure what you meant

Maybe later one the real English will let us know

I'm sure it does. The patriotism in my family is high for the conservatives and the liberals alike. It's one of the few things our family stands united on. I was talking American society in general.

My dad served in Japan during Vietnam. He was home in Hawaii. He went with me to school that day for some sort of career day type of thing. I was about 9 years old. At lunch, one of the American (of European descent) teachers threw poi all over his pretty white uniform. Right in the lunch room for all the kids to see. I then was known as a crybaby. My dad comforted me by explaining something I wouldn't understand for years to come..... he was fighting to give people the right to do things like that. My dad also explained to the teacher that he had a few rights too, one of which was to take her to court with a bunch of charges or she could pay for the cleaning of his uniform. She choose to exercise her right to have his uniform cleaned. My dad has an awesome way with words!

Depends on what you mean by family-oriented. Could you say a bit more?

Thanks manda. It sounds like you do more to protect your youth that Americans do.

I don't understand exactly what Watershed is though.

I'm so sorry...My dad served in Vietnam as a flight engineer flying supplies into enemy territory and making night drops...

One of the few times I ventured into a shopping mall off base, there were all these protestors of the war screaming and saying terrible things.

I vowed to never leave home again

From Wiki:

quote:

Watershed is a term used to describe a time in television schedules during which it is permissible to show television programmes which have 'adult content'.

I find it rather nifty that someone included a tomato amongst the Fruit Kabobs; since tomatoes are indeed fruit.

I find it rather amazing though, that tomatoes are kin to the poisonous Nightshade.

When I look at how complex are the lines of our natural world, and our part in it, I wonder at anyone who can see such wonders and still question the existence of God.

I debated one such yesterday, and as commanded by the Apostles Paul, Peter, and our Lord Jesus: in love, patience, and continuity.

Thanks for mentioning that tomato; it 'hit the spot'.

Cheers.

That's because we pronounce it correctly, so we spell it correctly.

More correctly than a Turk would pronounce it? <raises eyebrows>

THIS is a cool little site for anyone that's interested (Roberta) in looking up places to stay, that are not hotels, in Scotland...
