I would, but the US media barely covers it. Most probably don't know that it even exists

I am shocked! I had no idea that the US didn't rate the Paralympics.

I don't think it's as shown as much as the Olympics, but there is fairly good coverage. I haven't caught the news for the past few days so don't know if it's been mentioned in there though.

There are a number of the characters I don't like, for a variety of reasons.

But there are a few that I do, very much!

I'm curious which ones!

Like:

Lou & Andy
Carol ("computer says no")
Anne (as in Dr Lawrence & Anne)
Emily Howard and Frances
Vicky Pollard
Marjorie Dawes (Fatfighters)
Harvey & Jane ("Bitty")
Mr Mann & Roy
Mrs Emery (I so don't want to like this, but I do!)

Don't Like:

Bubbles etc and the whole health club/fat suits thing
Maggie & Judy
Daffyd
Dudley & Ting Ting
Ray McCooney
Sebastian & Michael (I so don't want to like this, and I manage that most of the time, but sometimes
it just tickles me, probably because of Anthony Head, who I like)
Letty

Re any other characters, I don't much care for them, but don't feel strongly against them, as I do the above.

I've never even heard of the Paralympics. Is it Olympics for those with physical disabilities or is it like the Special Olympics?

I was just gonna ask the same thing, Roberta.

Manda, so far I think I like Lou & Andy the best. I'll have to see if I can find more on YouTube. No luck on Hulu.

It's more!!

From the International Paralympic Committee website: (HERE)

quote:

Traditionally there are athletes who belong to six different disability groups in the Paralympic Movement: amputee, cerebral palsy, visual impairment, spinal cord injuries, intellectual disability and a group which includes all those that do not fit into the aforementioned groups (les autres).

It's especially "interesting" that this is being hosted by Beijing as well, because, let's just say, China isn't exactly well known for its positive attitude towards people with disabilities.

And they're leading the medal total. I was very interested as well because of the countries attitude toward disabilities. But it's all about image right?

Our coverage here isn't that great. They're only showing it on Saturdays, and doing recaps. It's better than nothing, but we can still do much better than that!

It's a shame countries don't show better coverage. This is the 2004 medals table. Some of the reasons why people are there are quite inspiring. They deserve recognition for that.

The paralympics update has the Brits just 4 golds behind China. The US are 10 golds behind the Brits. I suspect the Brits are going to beat their 2004 medal haul. I'd love for them to beat China!

Some of it was a bit mediocre, but there was this one sketch - a black Labour candidate canvassing on the High Street, and an American couple passing by. It's priceless. If you get a chance to watch the repeat, go for it, just for that one sketch!!

EDIT: the whole Episode 2 is on I-PLayer H E R E

Thanks for the link Manda! I'll watch it tomorrow. My puter is going slow right now and I'm watching a hysterical episode of Star Trek with Freud in it (he's analysing Data!).

I just checked the Radio Times. Harry and Paul is being repeated on Monday night (BEEB 2, 10pm) so I'll watch it then ~ last time I tried to watch something on iplayer, I gave up because it just kept going slow... I've been watching 'The Children' so I could do with watching something light after that ~ I didn't realise it would be quite so dark.

Manda, did you see Last Night of the Proms? I loved Bryn Terfel's Welsh dragon jacket. I opted to turn the volume on the tv up high and it sounded really good! Couldn't help but think how London will be in 2012 with the Olympics and the Proms and goodness knows what else!

I flipped on the text news earlier and GB were 1 gold medal behind China! Then they picked up a whole bunch more. Sigh! Such a shame that David Weir has to rerun his 800m again. He's had such a tough time (from what I understand) the past year with illness and to then win a race he's never won before, only to have the medal denied him... he must feel gutted.

So, how much is petrol there now? We're paying about $3.50ish a gallon, so that's .66 Euro cents per liter. OK, that might not be right....I had to use a few converters to get that amount. LOL

I have the utmost respect for you converting to the Euro ~ but we still use the pound sterling (£ ~ which is a key most of you don't have!) here!

I checked online and the site said that the average cost was £4.08 per (US)gallon.

Nope. Hopefully never. I think it's a great shame that so many countries have lost the coin in favour of the Euro.

I totally agree. On both counts.

agapetos,

sorry I didn't see the Last Night of the Proms. Not really my sort of thing. (apart from the Doctor Who one! I'd have loved to have seen that!)
