The coin? There are no Euro coins? LOL, sorry...I don't understand the terminology.

There are Euro coins, but they're not the official currency in the UK. Here's some info about it.

agapetos was using for word coin for coinage, ie official currency.

Thanks for the info. OK, I've got another question. If an American writes you a check, sends it in the mail, and you deposit it into your bank which is in Britain, wouldn't it still work out fine? Like the American dollars would be converted into pounds in your bank? Or, it doesn't work like that?
A few months ago we ordered some educational books for the kids from a French guy that was just here over the summer. He was going door to door. When tried to call him over the summer to cancel, but he didn't return our call. So, he came yesterday to deliver the books and to collect the money, either by debit card or cash. I told him I could write him a post-dated check and he could desposit it in his bank in France on the date specified, since he's leaving on Monday. He told me it doesn't work like that, and French banks won't take American checks and convert them into Euros. I imagine it would be a similar rule in Britain.

No it doesn't work like that. The only way it could be done would be if the person raised an International Money Order or Banker's Draft. You can't write a cheque in one currency and pay it into a bank where the currency is something else.
(I wouldn't be able to write a sterling cheque to pay for something in America either)
For overseas purchases, I usually use PayPal, because they *do* convert one currency to another if you need them to.

No kidding? I didn't know that. I figured it would work, but just take longer because the banks are in different currencies. Thanks for the info.
We ended up working it out in the end. He's going to send me a COD from the company he was working for, and then when I pay that way, the company will pay him in Euros.

I buy stuff on ebay and many of the companies are in England or Germany and paypal works really well.
I got some really cute baby clothes from the Baby Gap somewheres over thar!

There's a store chain called World Market which carries the Christmas crackers along with tons of English "stuff." They also carry tons of Indonesian stuff, too which clogs up the front of the store.  If you make your way to the back, you'll find some fun items back there.

I thought we had something like humidex, but it turns out it's a different formula from the US. We keep track of the humidity and the heat index. I see that the humidex uses the dew point as a part of the formula. That might be a better way of keeping track of things. The humidity can be terrible in MN. Very oppressive.
Doink, thanks for the share about World Market. I've seen it advertised, but have never been in the store myself. I'll have to check it out.

Marmite...yes
I dunno about the pickle (is it really a kind of pickle?) or weetabix? But on my next trip, I'll have to check and see.
 Are you setting me up with something like chitterlins or cow lung?  so if I ask the store manager, he's gonna get a good lil chuckle? Still might be fun anyway.

I went to grandparents day to visit my 2 grandsons and one of their teachers is from England. She is teaching the 5 year olds and because they're just learning to pronounce words, etc...it's very very very very very funny to see all these little kids picking up her accent when pronouncing certain words. Nearly all of them say "mum" now.
I was trying not to laugh out loud, but it was truly funny and sweet.
I didn't get the chance to ask the teacher where in England she moved from, but I look forward to the next time I get to go their class.

Manda, most grocery stores here carry Weetabix.
I miss going to the British store in my old neighborhood. I used to buy packets of shepherds pie seasoning. It was the best. I didn't know a lot about the foods, and back then there was the stereotype that Brits couldn't cook well, so I was nervous to try anything besides cookies. LOL!
