Praying for you Julie!

I could use some prayers myself ladies. I'm completely sleep deprived and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. My little angel seems to have her nights and days mixed up and on top of that she's still having issues with the whole breastfeeding thing. It's really starting to take a toll on me both physically and emotionally. I know my husband is doing everything he can to help but there's only so much he can do. He's been wonderful about fixing meals and keeping the house clean and pitching in with diaper changing etc. I just wish he could take a turn with the middle of the night feedings ya know?

Emily,

Try to sleep when Evie sleeps, even if it's in the day. The housework and everything else can wait (it really can), but naps here and there will make all the difference. You need to rest especially because of the C-section.

This too will pass.

I agree! If you're not getting your sleep at night you *need* to be getting it during the day when she's sleeping. It's very important that you're getting the rest your body needs for healing. It does get better, I promise.

((((Julie)))) and ((((Emily))))

Emily, do you have any family around that can help with some things so you can sleep between feedings?

Had my 37 week appt today. We didn't do an internal or anything, but everything looks good and my GBS was negative - YAY!!!

Jessica, I love that picture of you and your hubby!

((Emily)) I don't have any words of wisdom, but I'm praying that this time passes quickly and you get some much needed rest!

Thanks, Kim!!

I totally agree to let go the things that can wait - but somebody to help with diaper changing, burping, and just being with Evie b/t feedings if she's awake (and maybe some cooking) would be so nice I think...

Megan - lol - officially 37 weeks tomorrow! I just can't believe how fast it has all gone by either. Still having mixed emotions - want to meet our little guy, but will miss this special time too.

Ah, I understand. With brand newborns diaper changing, burping and awake time usually takes no more than 30 min. before they're all tucked out and ready for a nap again.

I will never regret having my parents here the first week home from the hospital and then as soon as they left my MIL stayed a week with us. Then the third week hubby took the entire week off and it was the best decision we ever made. It was hard having people here the first two weeks, but it paled in comparison to the help we had in between feedings and all the sleep I got those first two weeks, even though he wasn't sleeping.

(((Emily))) Definitely if you have family or close friends that can come for a few hours a day just until you get back on your feet would be good for you. I know you had a c-section so your recover is probably to some degree a lot harder and you probably need all the help you can get.

I know you are still trying to get the hang of breasfeeding... but it may not be a bad idea to maybe pump a little extra during the day and have a bottle or two on hand so that dad could help with one of the middle of the night feedings... you would be amazed at how refreshed you would feel if you try this for just a day or 2....

I had my appointment today.. had to do the GD test... ekh!.. that stuff is YUCKY big time!...and I was sooooooooo thirsty before hand (cause I am still sick with sinus issues and I have forced heat at home so I wake up with really dry dry mouth).... After the blood test I drank like 4 cups of ice cold water before I even left the office!

the doctor said everything is spot on. Even though I have not gained a lot of weight he is still confidant that I am growing right.... he measured me with the tape measure thing.... and was actually with me for more than 30 seconds this time around.... so much so that we started talking about politics in the middle east! LOL... was just bizzare!

He also asked me to do this test every night.. I pick a hour when baby is active and count how many kicks.. I have to count 10 kicks for an hour.. and if I can't feel 10 kicks... then I had to call him and we may then have to organize for an ultra sound.. I asked him why couldn't we just do an ultrasound straight off and he said the insurance won't cover it UNLESS there is a reason... so in a way... I would love to see my baby again to make sure he is fine.... but I think its a silly way to measure it by cause I KNOW there is no way my baby kicks that many times in an hour..... I don't know if this is a new thing or not..... has anybody else done this?

They are called Kick Counts, Sherry and every woman should do them 2-3 times a day after 28 weeks. My OB's office gave us a chart where you could record the time of day and how long it took to reach 10 kicks in an hour. Your baby really *should* be moving that much, especially at 28+ weeks.

even though this is off topic for this thread, I had to respond to that...it's not generally a good idea to start pumping until your milk is well established, and even if she were to pump for someone else she would need to wake anyway to pump or bf anyway at those times that Evie is wanting to eat...otherwise it will affect her milk getting well established and could sabotage any bfing that she does.
sorry...now back to the topic at hand..pregnancy related issues.

kick counts is normal for them to have you do....they just want to make sure baby is OK and moving around. Some of mine though really weren't interested in moving that much during an hour, yet they were all fine too. I think mostly they want to know that you are fine with the baby's movements...that it is normal for YOUR baby.

(I concur with Sarah... especially if Emily isn't going to be working. I got TONS of pressure to pump in the beginning so others could help me feed Jadon. For me, I'm glad I didn't listen, but that really depends on the mother/home/etc. :) :) )

Hello! I just posted my birth story on my baby stalking thread. :)

Jae, when you nurse at night does your baby need to be soothed to go back to sleep? My second did major and this was how my DH helped, after I nursed her he would take over to put her back down. That was a big help to me and helped me to get a little more of that much needed sleep.

I never could do that pump extra and have DH feed at night even once my milk supply was established. I would get engorged because of that skipped feeding and wouldn't be able to sleep anyway. So I quickly figured out it was just as well to do the nursing and get back to bed. It does get easier after time! (Somebody remind me of this in a week or two when my new DS and I are going through the nighttime feeding issues!)

Sarah,

Just to say that Emily is *already* pumping (see post #156 HERE)

Megan- You're a gorgeous pregnant lady! And just gorgeous in general.

Jess- Sounds, and looks, like you guys had a great time.

Julie- WOW. I just updated on this thread. I read the post about you going to the hospital, then a few posts later saying you posted your birth story. Time flies when you're not on the forums.

Jae- Jaden looks like such a little man!
