That's one of my favorite replies.

BTW guys, I went to the grocery store today and studied the mag aisle and sure enough, there is an eye full. You're right, it just gets lost with
everything else.

I don't find the ulta skinny women the put in most main stream men's magazines (I won't mention their names) attractive. I do think it's just SI using carnal flesh to sell issues, which is all they care about.

No shock when soap makers use carnal flesh to sell their products as well.

Sex sells. And people follow the $$$.

My biggest point in all of this that an issue of SI is FAR FAR FAR from anything to be highly concerned about when we consider the real evils out there for all to see.

I must disagree on one point. While I agree there are bigger things to be concerned about, that does not change that the SI swimsuit issue is a "real evil". A collection of photographs taken with the intention of inciting men to lust is evil.

Well, as with any other sin we committ (whether Christian or not - we all still live with our "other half" that lusts after sin), it is not to be taken lightly. So, I'm with the crowd out there that says something like "it's bad, it's tempting young boys, men, etc. to focus on the sexual aspect of women, in neglect (by way of comparison) to the whole person of that woman".

Is a beatiful woman beautiful - (???). What's the bottom line to a woman, contemplating "showing herself off" like this? 1Pe 3:3,4 "3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward [adorning] of arranging the hair, and of wearing gold, or of putton on apparel; 4 "But [let it be] the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, [even the ornament] of a meek and quiet spirit, which isn in the sight of God of great price". I say that any man that forgets how it is that a SI woman got on the cover to begin with, is TOTALLY missing the whole counsel of God!

To you fathers out there - what if that woman was YOUR daughter???? My daughter is 17, and (not just because I'm her father) she is EXTREMELY beautiful, and (though I risk sounding wordly by saying it) she has a knock-out body (...which is very unsettling for me to say, as I contemplate the kind of world we live in). Would you want your daughter to pay attention to 1Pe 3:3,4, or would you like her to comtemplate that she could "show off" some of her stuff, and that would be ok? I've been asking my daughter for years: How do you catch sharks? (answer: By using SHARK BAIT!). My sweet daughter, do you want to be shark-bait? Is that what you want to catch?

NOW I KNOW that there are MANY fathers who agree with the 1Pe 3:3,4 perspective, but the other (obvious) side to the problem is the potential for the boys/young men out there seeing this SITTING IN PLAIN SIGHT in the store on the SI cover.

So, what to do to help our youg men avoid this temptation? I know it sounds like a canned-answer, but - fill their lives/instruction with teaching about how God wants a man to behave towards all things - especially women (and, I don't necessarily mean just quote scripture to them). Teach them about the whole person of a woman, HER special talents given to her by God (by nature) that are meant to HELP a man. Teach them that a woman's beauty (and I don't mean just physical, although that is the focus of this post) is the glory of a man 1Co 11:17, as the flower is the glory of the field. Teach them that outer beauty is very temporal - seek the invisible beauty of a woman's heart! Especially, teach young men/boys OFTEN that outward attraction to a woman is ABSOLUTELY INSIGNIFICANT as compared to her inward beauty. Teach them to avoid the temptation to take the bait of beauty, only to find that their is a perilous spirit within that woman. Teach them that marriage is the focus of that attraction, and therefore, the REALTIONSHIP with that woman is the focus - not the body!

BTW, I have a 20yr old son too, and we often talk about these things, since he (as just about all young men) is very attracted to attractive women - and (sadly to say, it very much seems that) he is not born-again. BUT, the message is still the same! Whether you attribute it to a verse in the Bible, or "what God wants", that doesn't have any bearing on the fact that - what is right is right; what is good is good; what is healthy and uplifting, edifying, etc. is what it is whether or not you SAY "thus saith the Lord". We should be talking OFTEN with our young men and women about the temptations in this part of our sinful world!

I hardly ever go down the magazine aisle at the grocery but I did Saturday. Guy oriented magazines have gotten pretty obnoxious. The SI swimsuit cover is somewhat provacative but it even seemed to be one of the milder ones.

From a personal standpoint, I rarely read magazines and never the obnoxious ones. I know it is a small area compared to the real porn out there but they have become a lot more obnoxious than they used to be.

Hey Guys!
Thank You for all of your sincere posts.
I think we can all agree that, though SI is not "real porn", it certainly can lead up to it. It is just the beginning (boy or man) and eventually SI won't be enough and the men will be looking for more.
I just do not remember it being this way 20 years ago. It wasn't right there in your face, easily accessible.

who cares if it isnt "real porn." it causes arousal. i am just 15 and i have already been caught in my lust several times because this **** is so easily accessible. when i see a hot lady in almost nothing, yeah, i do actually think, "that's hot." i have to cast my eyes aside though, and not let myself look at these images. it is often hard to do, though.

I don't get any mags., let alone SI. However I was in a Doctor's office, and was reading SI, and they put in a notice to tell you when the Swimsuit issue is coming out. And, if you, the subscriber, so wish, you may notify them, they will suspend your copy, and extend your subscription 1 issue.

What are your thoughts on the new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover?

They rejected my photo so I have nothing to do with them

Actually, I pay no attention and have not seen it.

Im a 16 year old guy i see that and think "wow shes hot" and then move on.

It comes down to what you do. Their is a difference with temptaion and sining. Jesus was tempted(40 days in desert) You can see something like this be tempted and not take the fish hook and be ok or you can go into the sin.

I spelt something wrong i know it.

I don't care. Don't pay much attention to SI magazine or the swim suit issue. I don't think that many guys do.

I do wish that magazine racks were a lot cleaner. It used to be difficult to walk by one. It doesn't bother me as much as it used to. I don't think its because I am desensitized. I don't pay much attention to the racks and I still wish that people wouldn't use sex to sell. I actually am more facinated by the stupidly funny stuff that the tabloids have to say than Jessica Simpson wearing whatever. I think that flashy stuff like that looses its pazaz. Salacious stuff like that usually does.

I don't know how to tell you to deal with a son who will be exposed to junk like that. Maybe he could have someone sit down with him and explain what the Bible says on lust and some specific ways to overcome it. There is a book titled Every Young Man's Struggle. It is just about the best book out there when it comes to this topic. I will get back if I think of anything else.

What are your thoughts on the new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover?

Are you thinking "It just looks like the rest of the covers, Cosmo......"

Are you thinking "This is too provocative, I'm embarrassed when I have my little boy with me".

Are you thinking "She's Hot"

Do you think they should yank them off the shelves?

Could you just care less?

I think that it is essentially softcore porn. I think its the typical kind of boundary pushing that you often see. For the guys fortunate enough to have not seen it its a blonde lady with no top and a couple dozen strings of beads strategically placed to cover just the nipples while leaving most of the breasts exposed. So its a handful of beads and fabric away from full nudity. I was repulsed. The first thing that came to mind, other than "oh brother..." was that she would be incredibly attractive if she were actually, you know, tastefully dressed. Very provacative and I avoided the magazine rack at the store I worked in because even though that magazine was placed further back someone would always leave a copy right in front and there she would be every time I went past. >.<

I have to be honest have not seen it and does not interest me. I appreciate Gods creation of beautiful women, they are to be respected. BUT SI just goes down hill and soon will be another Maxim (found those in my sons apartment, had to have a conversation).

To be completely honest, if I walked past it in the store, I would probably look at it, and then scold myself, for doing so. Then I would feel appalled that this is how we let women make a living for themselves, and that this is how we let young women know that this is all they are worth. It is a shame that such beautiful women feel they need to do things like that, and that we think it is perfectly acceptable.

I don't buy this magazine and keep away from it - just as I avoid Victoria's Secret catalogs.

These magazines, unlike hardcore or softcore pornography, are freely available to anybody of any age. But they are too sexually strong and suggestive and that can be dangerous, to put it lightly.
