Welcome back, Dana & Crystal. I think you both are going to send some of these ladies over the edge!

Dana, great post. And Donna, great post. I absolutely agree with you guys. My post before was throwing out questions and "logic" that I frequently hear. I agree that it's confusing and a lot of times semantics. I do feel like God has HUGELY laid on my heart the last couple of years how we need to love PEOPLE. Regardless. That's exactly what He does for me...why should I do otherwise? That doesn't necessarily mean condoning a behavior, but that's a whole 'nother discussion.

Wow! BOTH of you?! Hot dog!!!

Well, now what was the topic? I've completely forgotten in all the excitement. LOL

How about...should we be drilling in ANWAR? Off the coast of Florida...you know, where everyone ELSE is?

I don't know. I wish they'd focus more on developing sustainable alternative energy, and workable public transportation than on drilling. Doing more drilling is just a temporary solution- it doesn't actually fix the problem of oil dependence.
There are cities outside of the US where most of the cars run on alternative energy. I think Rio Dejanero (sp) is one- those cars are made by Ford and Chevy, what's to stop them from bringing them to the US?

I can't say for sure on those particular vehicles/issue, but I can say that when we moved back from Germany we couldn't bring our German car because it would have cost more then the car was worth to change it to meet US gov't standards of safety. We would have had to put in new side panels that were more reinforced and replace all the glass with "safer" glass.

Hmm...ok, so they can't bring the actual cars. What's stopping them from using the same technology for cars shipped to the US as for those shipped to Rio or other places? Is there something I'm missing?

I think RIO uses ethanol now right?

I wish the US would look into that.. BUT Then you have corn taking over land that could be used for food for people.. arg.

We have to get away from fossil fuels at some point but opening ANWAR is a logical step into helping the fuel industry at this point.

Yes, ANWAR is gorgeous pristine land, but there are safe and eco friendly ways to obtain oil!!

Sarah.. do the cars drive on the same side in Germany or would you have brought an opposite steering wheel car home?

in Germany you drive on the same side as you do here in the US.....Great Brittan you drive on the opposite side. All the countries we visited while there though were on the same side as us...Germany, France, Switzerland, Luxembourg. We didn't visit many other countries, but our friends said most others were like the US...except GB

Big oil and energy companies.

Our vice president quit his job at an energy corporation to take the VP job. Oil/Energy + Politics/Regulations go hand-in-hand here.

Of course we could "invent" more efficient cars here.....but we "don't". Follow the money (who's making it hand over fist) -- then you know why.

That's sort of what I figured the main reason was.

Yup. Sorry to leave ya hanging Stacy. I was up puking last night and didn't feel like doing a detailed response.

However, our current president is not the only one that has been involved with oil... wouldn't want to slip into Bush Derangement Syndrome or anything

I know most probably have seen this, but there are a few women here that don't check the SAHM/W's thread, so I wanted to alert you to what is going on with Donna.....please check out that thread for any future updates.....
here are the two posts from me and Lisa so far.....

URGENT PRAYER.....

I didn't want this to get lost in the prayer thread, so I am putting it here too.....
Donna just called and said that Brian was in an accident on the way to church. She doesn't know how bad he is, just that it is bad enough to send him to the larger hospital a bit of a drive from where they live and that they had to tear the car apart to get to him. So PLEASE PRAY!!!! She will try to update when she knows something more.

UPDATE!

Brian broke is left tibia and femur along with his left arm. He will most likely be having surgery for those today. Right now he is getting a CAT scan to find out if there is anything internal.

Thanks, Sarah, for letting us know!

I was reading Bad Eagle yesterday and he was talking about the giant windmills for trying to get energy. He talked about how HUGE they are, they litter the landscape, and they are so expensive that we can't afford to pay for energy from them. It costs too much to get the energy they produce to the city they're supposed to be powering. (Also they're giant bird guillotines.) But an oilman is bored and wants to make money some other way and wind is free. Little overhead...mostly profit. Many of these "alternative" forms of energy are more expensive and less useful than the big environmentalists want to let on.

Ethanol...bad idea. At least in mass quantities. When food is used to make energy, what do the people eat?

We have one of those here in Toronto, down by the waterfront. Only one, so I'm not quite sure exactly how much it's providing us with. I don't mind the sight of it, but since they're not building more, it must not be worth it.

That's interesting....we have some of those wind farms here in California and they are also in Kansas.

I'm a farmer's daughter so I wouldn't necessarily mind the switch to ethanol so much as long as my vehicle is able to handle it. A lot of farmers in my hometown have stopped growing as much corn and switched to cotton, soybeans, or another crop because of the amounts of water required for a corn crop.

The Fresno airport is using a lot of solar powered electricity. Here's the newest news about it.

Sorry to go OT but I have to before I explode. Why is it that people think that it's a Christian's duty to take mistreatment with a smile? I work in my church office. We had a salesman call a few times last week to speak to our business administrator and he was very rude to me. In fact he yelled at me once because I would not interrupt the meeting that our administrator was in so he could talk to the salesman. This morning he called again and I informed him politely, and with the business administrator standing next to me, that we did not wish to do business with him or his company because of the way that he treated me. He then launched into a diatribe about how that was not the "Christian" thing to do and informing me that I was being very rude to him. UGH! I ended up hanging up on him and got off the phone so upset that I was shaking. I seriously think this guy is mentally unstable, but it just irked me that he chose to call my faith and Christ-likeness into question because I don't think he should have yelled at me!
