LOL! That reminds me of a time when I was in college working my hiney off in school and at my job. A teenager came to the door one night selling newspaper subscriptions (and we were already subscribed to the paper) for his college future. I told him nicely "No, thank you, not at this time". An absolutely pitiful look came across his face as his shoulders sunk and he said "But . . . it's for my college!" in a very exasperated tone. LOL!! Poor guy! I said "I'm sorry! I'm paying for my own college right now!". As if I was totally responsible for destroying his future. [sm=purplelaugh.gif][sm=rollingeyes.gif] Hey, dude! I have to pay for my own college! You pay for yours! LOL, no, I think it's all fine and good he was raising money like that. His sad little mindset just cracked me up.

I always got crazy customers when I worked retail. I never put up with their rudeness and would just leave the store or go to the back and let them yell at nobody. When I worked with truckers (I was a receiving receptionist) I would let them know that if they weren't going to treat me with respect I wouldn't even allow their truck to come to our warehouse to offload... then I would hang up. They always called back to apologize and were always nice after that. [8D] I had one guy who was always acting gaga over me and the other lady working. I got fed up with him and told him that until he can treat us with respect I will not open the door for him and let him offload his boxes. I then walked away and told him that I am going for a lunch break and if he hasn't changed by the time I get back I will no longer deal with him. He behaved after that. [:D]


You go, girl! Too bad the people at the restaurant never used some of that attitude with your grandma. [;)]

That would get my vote too. You could easily end up paying more for food. Especially if you didn't want fast food everytime. Then you'd have to pay a tip too. You could do take-out from Chilis or Applebees, but it's still kind of pricey and if you didn't eat it all, where would you put it?

One time a man came to our door selling magazines. When Mom didn't want to order any he starting ranting and raving about how the people in the neighborhood could afford these nice homes but they couldn't afford to buy some magazines. HUH?! It kind of freaked Mom out a bit because there had been a case or two of women being raped by men coming to the door selling things like that.

I know everyone (I think) knows that ectopic babies and their mothers can live even though the baby's misplaced, but a little while ago (end of last semester) I hear of an ovarian ectopic where baby and mother are healthy (and her ovary was still intact apparenlty)... but she nor her doctors know the baby was in the ovary even in appointments. [8|] Most that I see where both the baby and mom come out fine are babies that live on the mesentary.

Lol. I've seen people try to do strange things to pay their tuition here. I know my estimated attendance cost per year is around 30k... which means that in five years it'll end up to be around 150k, but I only have about four thousand in debt right now (and I had a little scholarship money). I understand how it is to be broke though...hence the reason why I'm konwn as the poor college student (instead of a college student [:D]).

That would make me feel nervous too... Yeah, I wish the ladies at that restaurant would have just treated my grandma like she treated them... It was the worst when we were in public with my great grandma (her mom) She was always SO rude to her and treated her like a child. I hated that. When my great grandma lost her mind (she imagined stuff all the time and thought she was still married to the younger version of her husband) she never remembered my grandma... but she always remembered who I was! [:)] It drove my grandma crazy, but why would her mom want to remember a daughter who was mean to her for the last few years of her life? I was always nice to her and she remembered me because my cousin and I made a picture book for her when we were both quite young that she looked through all the time.

So I got to thinking about all the pirate stuff that's out for kids right now. Marshall's been invited to a couple of pirate themed parties, several of Luke's preschool shows have done pirate episodes, etc, etc.

From what I've read real pirates for vicious and cruel. They were often blood thirsty and were a serious threat. The sight of a pirate ship would panic a crew and passengers.

It seems to me that all this pirate kid stuff now would be the equivalent of 200 years from now kid's having urban gang parties for their birthdays. Maybe it's just me...

I think that will depend on whether or not Hollywood glamorizes urban gangs... We like Pirate themed things around here, but they are nostalgic for me.

And yet, oddly enough, a pirate ship was an early example of a true democracy. The captain led during an actual battle, but all decisions about where to go, who to raid, etc... those were all made by majority vote.

History is so weird. [8D]

Hm... I should dig up those Halloween pictures, LOL! One year we "dressed" my mom's black Expedition in a full pirate ship costume, and then our entire family wore pirate costumes. It was wonderful.

I'm personally not really into the whole pirate thing, nothing against it or anything, I just tend to not really get into fads...I feel its overdone. Kind of like Winnie the Pooh everything for babies. No offense to anyone, but I am tiring of everything baby having Winnie the Pooh on it. I think its cute, I like it to an extent, but its SOO overdone.

I totally agree, Erin. I do not shop for Hunter's clothing at Sears because majority of it has Winnie the Pooh on it. No offense to those who like that, but personally not for me. I have never been into characters on infant/child clothing to begin with.

Pirate thing I have never really thought of it, but it doesn't bother me at this point one way or another. My nephew was a pirate for Halloween last year and mighty cute. That could be a double no-no though Halloween and dressed as a pirate [8D]

We don't do any characters on anything, we also don't really buy into much of that sort of "commercialism".

Anyone ever hear about Patch the Pirate? It's a Christian based :)

Also: I found a Kid's Club who used the Patch the Pirate curriculum, etc.

Anyways, those were my thoughts when I heard y'all talking about pirates [:D]

our school did Patch The Pirate Goes To The Jungle one year for our school play....I still remember the songs from it.

Kat, it's funny how things come back around in our lives. Your comment about pirates reminded me of a conversation dh and I had with a friend who teaches in Sydney. He said they had to change the theme for their whole term, which they had used for years, one year after a child curled up into a foetal ball and started rocking when the teacher mentioned that their theme for that term was Pirates.

This child was one of the boat people who had come to Australia and when they crossed over to here their boat had been attacked by pirates and this child had lost family members.

It sort of takes away from the glamour when you start to think that there really are still pirates out there killing people.

That is crazy, how do people afford that? My 4 year BA cost me $16,000 total, my post-grad cost me $3000. A friend of mine is at med school right now and that is $17,000 a year.

WOW! That's amazing! One of my sunday school students just got accepted in to a private Bible college and the tuition is $24K/yr. there. Thankfully he has a full b-ball scholarship. The private Bible college I attended was around $14K/yr. When I attended university it cost me around $2K/semester to go full time, but I didn't have room/board.

I think medical school here is between $100-200K, I've heard anyway! I guess depending on where you go.

Hubby checked on getting his MBA and it will cost $15,000.

My nursing degree will cost about $36k for 18 months of school[sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif][sm=icon_smile_faint.gif] Or I can wait 2.5-3 years and pay only $15k[8|] That will prepare me to sit for the NCLEX exam, then I'll do an RN-Master's program that will probably cost me another $20-30k. I don't know what my NP program is going to cost. It makes me want to vomit to think about having that much loan debt.

Our tuition is lower than in the US because the government subsidises about 2/3 of it. The government gives the universities money which makes tuition lower for us (I'm not completely sure how it works).

When Dh started university his tuition was $1800 a year...the good old days!
