TwinCityGirl -> RE: Kicka, part 3 (8/25/2008 3:06:22 PM)

Hi, ladies:

Please keep praying for my friend Pam and her husband Nick. I do not have a new update (I know, bad friend!). We have been engrossed in family stuff all weekend save for the time we have been TAKING DOWN A TREE from our backyard that got struck by lightning (and our insurance won't cover having it taken down so it's a DIY project. Can you say SORE SHOULDERS I CAN BARELY MOVE?)

So I will call Pam and leave her a voicemail. In the unit her husband's in she can only take calls when she leaves the unit which she mainly does for shift changes.

I should say they are HOPING that his back, brain and heart are okay but they are testing and watching all of those things to see what damage has been done, if any. Of course I know you will all continue to pray that he has a full recovery.

I plan on telling her that I have people praying for her around the world (thanks, Maggie in Canada and Nicole in Australia and Beth in Kuwait-- I can say that!). I did tell her about Donna and Brian and she was moved at how God is working in their situation. (Go, Brian and Donna!)

It means so much to me to KNOW that I can come here and ask for and receive prayer. Thank you, ladies, for your friendship and support of not only me and my family, but for others near and dear to me. I hope you know you can count on the same from me.

Love,
Jeanie

Don't believe a word from Crys---she's really a closet-barbecue-lover. [8D]

Yep, I can count on two hands the number of times that Dana, Crystal and I have been out "steakhousin'" (as we like to call it). And you-know-who can pound down the butterfly cut top sirloins with the best of 'em. Don't let her little "vegetarian act" fool you. [sm=halo.gif][sm=sidesmile.gif]

And this is her facial expression while she's eating those big turkey legs --> [sm=widecry.gif]

I pray that his heart, back and mind will be fine and healthy. {{{{Pam}}}}

What a big job to cut down that tree, Jeanie!

I don't think I've heard about this. What happened? (You can point me to a particular post if you'd rather)

LOL You guys are insane. Meat is [:'(]. Though if I ever did eat meat again, it would be a steak. [;)]

I feel it is vitally important to study both the Old Testament and the New Testament. I don't feel that either one is complete without the other.

Maggie (and others who might not know):

Donna's husband, Brian, was in a car/tractor accident on his way to church (was it 4) weeks ago. He was alone in the car and from what I saw in the photos, it was on a curve/blind spot. The large tractor had crossed over and was driving in Brian's lane, too, and with the blind spot, they collided.

L I N K

He has had at least 2 surgeries on his arm and hip area. Yolanda (firefightermama) started an encouragement thread for Donna in the Community/Personally for You section (see Link above).

Brian came home from the hospital after 20 long days there and is going through therapies and such. You can read all kinds of updates there.

Donna is due with their baby in early September but will be induced on August 28th so that it can be arranged for Brian to be present for at least the actual birth of the child, if not some of the labor/delivery.

So, there you go. God has worked MIRACLES. There are links to photos in that encouragement thread. Photos that take your breath away because you don't know how a live human being was pulled from that car. I understand the tractor driver was uninjured (very large tractor) and that the same tractor that hit Brian is back out on the roads, possibly with the same driver or maybe a different one.

It's been quite a month or so for Donna and her family, that's for sure.

Jeanie

Edited to fix spelling...or was it KatMack who started the thread? Well. it was Yolanda or Kat -- can't remember offhand.

Definitely praying for Pam and Nick!!

Thank you for praying for Leah. The funeral for her husband, Bucky, was today. My BIL, Chris, was one of the pallbearers. The memorial service is going on right now.

I did find out what happened in the accident. Bucky was driving on a gravel road. A semi truck was driving towards him. A farmer was driving his truck behind the semi, and he decided to try to pass the semi even though the gravel road had made everything so dusty he couldn't see a thing. So, he tried to pass the semi completely blind and he hit Bucky's truck head-on. Apparently the semi driver and Bucky had even waved to each other, which must've been nanoseconds before the collision.

Bucky was a fire chief. When Chris got the first responder call he tried calling Bucky to find out where Bucky was and if he was on his way to the scene. Of course, he couldn't get ahold of him and when he arrived and saw Bucky's truck he knew why. He tried over and over to find a pulse but he had been killed instantly. Thankfully the injuries were not too gruesome, but even still, that is not a good last image of your best friend to have to get over.

I also really feel for Bucky's parents. This is the 2nd child of theirs that they have lost to an accident. Years ago, their other son died in a drowning accident when he was 7. I can't imagine having to go through that once, nevermind twice. For some reason, back then, they never let the mom hold her son after he drowned. So, she was determined to get to the crash scene and see this son one more time. They had 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls - only the girls are left.

It's just heartbreaking.

It is infuriating that one person's stupid decision can so drastically change so many people's lives forever.

spitzu -> RE: Kicka, part 3 (8/25/2008 4:46:01 PM)

That is so very tragic. [:(]

Praying for all involved.

I knew you'd agree with that statement Donna!

TwinCityGirl -> RE: Kicka, part 3 (8/27/2008 12:04:34 AM)

Friends who are praying for Pam & Nick:

He is out of the ICU and has been moved to a room.
He is still in a lot of pain but "things are going well".
They had him sitting up earlier today.
SURGERY probably on Thursday, I believe on his arm(s). (This was a voicemail that was hard to hear.)
Pray for his brain. I don't want to say too much more than that because I'm not exactly sure what she said, but just pray for his brain, okay?

She said: "Prayers are great. Prayers are really, really great so keep them up." I had told her that I had friends praying around the world for him -- Canada, Australia, Kuwait, America (am I missing anyone?)....well, whoever you are that is praying, even if you don't log in and tell me -- THANK YOU. She is clinging to those prayers and is trusting God.

Please keep praying. She sounds so exhausted.

Thank you.

Jeanie

magdaleine -> RE: Kicka, part 3 (8/27/2008 12:06:54 AM)

I've been praying! Coming out of ICU is a big and positive step.

Jeanie- I'm glad that things are sounding better for your friend. I hope it continues. I'll be praying from Kuwait starting late Saturday night (if I get there before midnight). Til then it's from Lebanon. [;)]

Tammy- I'm so sorry for your friend and her in-laws.

Yeah, meat! I love meat! I don't see myself ever becoming a vegetarian. Although I don't mind curbing our meat-eating to be frugal. Also for variety. But I gotta have meat!

Save one for me!!! I'll be over in 2 seconds...

ThursdaysChild -> RE: Kicka, part 3 (8/28/2008 5:10:44 AM)

Yum! Me too! Oh, no, wait. We're on our way to eat lunch with Jiddo and SIL. Who knows what we'll be eating. Sometimes she's vegetarian, sometimes she's not. Sometimes she eats chicken, sometimes she doesn't. {sigh} I really want one of those Sloppy Joes. [:(]

magdaleine -> RE: Kicka, part 3 (8/28/2008 2:16:11 PM)

Beth (I hope I have that name right), I just finished reading a true story that takes place partly in Lebanon and thought of you. A Canadian woman married to a Lebanese (who had grown up in Australia) had her children abducted by her estranged husband and taken into Lebanon at the very same time that you were leaving it a couple of years ago. Once she learns they are in Lebanon she goes there, despite the war, to try and get them back--and succeeds despite all the odds against her. It was an awesome read.

ThursdaysChild -> RE: Kicka, part 3 (8/29/2008 6:37:24 AM)

Oh, I'd love to read that!

Well, we're heading out again, only with not fighting this time. [:D] I'm almost packed and then we're taking SIL back home and saying goodbye to Jiddo.

Have a nice day, ladies.

lexie -> RE: Kicka, part 3 (8/29/2008 8:38:07 AM)

Maggie - what book was it? (I think it's on my reading list.)

magdaleine -> RE: Kicka, part 3 (8/29/2008 1:51:43 PM)

Something about Dragonflies. I'll look for the book and let you both know.

lexie -> RE: Kicka, part 3 (8/30/2008 8:33:36 AM)

Yep, then that is the one on my reading list! Thanks!
