There is one thing ask them who really interpreted their book from Greek and Hebrew. All sudden they are lost for words. Ask them why has it been since they talk for Jehovah. Why have they missed the messiah return so much?

When they came to my door last time. I brought out the Greek and the Hebrew on them. It was one of the quickest meeting I have ever witnessed. So I got to keep some heat in my house and their kids could possibly gotten warmer, with the car starting up.

My wife grew up JW and once she left the kingdom hall some of my in laws do not speak with her any more as she is considered an apostate. I have had to repent for trying to make them mad by starting a biblical discussion several times.[:D]

We are told not to bid God speed to false teachers and not to give them hospitality, so not so sure you need repent bjay.

Earthless it is a miracle I totally agree with you on your last post. Praise the Lord

Just the opinion of a small town preacher

Jehovah's Witnesses preach to people because they believe that anybody who is not a Jehovah's Witness will burn in hell after judgemnet day. They think that when you die, your spirit is sort of sleeping. Then, when judgment day comes, everyone who has ever lived will go before God and be judged, and that on the moment you go before him, you can be saved if you admit to him that he is your savior. Jehovah's Witnesses read the Watchtower magazine, and the New World Translations, which is their version of the Bible. And as for your comment, yes, they believe that earth will become part of heaven, and that people who died decades ago will rise again and we will get to meet them. It's not really what the Bible says, but whatever. As long as they don't start shoving their religon in my face, I'll leave them be.

Some JWs came to our door last week. My oldest daughter found out that if you have a really big Lab who is being held back because he wants to go make friendly with the people, you'll have a very short visit from the JWs as well.

Ironically, they gave her a printed notice to come and see a film, with a picture of Christ being crucified on it. An obvious attempt to play off the seasonal Easter theme, even though JWs don't celebrate it.

Actually they don't believe in hell.

But they do believe that God is the author of their handout. I also ask them why they missed so many times when the said that Jesus would return. And again a lot of silence happen to appear.

I know this is off the subject, but how to get the person's name to appear on the quote?

When you hit 'Quote' - just don't remove their name portion after the first Quote bracket.

mcleod -> RE: jehovas witness update (3/21/2008 4:20:42 PM)

earthless,
I still must be doing something wrong cause I can't get your name in it also. When I quote I see no names in it at all.

Are you sure you aren't hitting "Fast Reply"? Try hitting either "Post Reply" then "Quote Original".

Let's see if you're missing something. Look at the post you want to quote from. Do you have your page set up in "Tree Style" or "Flat style"? Most of us probably have it "Flat Style." In "Tree Style" you have an extra step, but it can still be done.

When it is in "Flat style" you can take the post you want to quote from. There should be something that gives you the choice between "Reply," "Quote" or "Fwd." When you click on "Quote" next to the box you want to quote from, a window should open up with the entire post with quote marks around it. Or you can click "Post Reply" or "Fast Reply" and a blank window would show up. If you click "Post Reply" you'll see another button that says "Quote Original." If you click "Fast Reply" you can't get "Quote Original" button in there no matter what you do.

So there are 2 things you might be doing wrong:
1) You might have it in "Tree style."
2) You might be hitting "Fast Reply".

I had 2 JW's come to my house one day, and I was very cordial and polite. I invited them in to sit and offered them a refreshment.

When we got settled, I asked them to tell me what they had to say.

They hesitated for a moment, and one of them said "We don't know. We never got this far before."

HA! Really? That's sad, because nobody else would listen to them, but kinda funny because they did'nt even know what to say. LOL!

TJO5 -> RE: jehovas witness update (3/31/2008 11:08:47 PM)

Hello Jfaye,
You ask Conrack50 the following questions.
quote:

Can you tell us about what they believe about Jesus? I know what I was told but would love
to hear from someone else about what they believe.

They told me, that Jesus' death on the cross, only opened the door for them to work their
way into His kingdom!

As a person who has spent countless hours on discussion boards debating with JWs I can answer many questions about their beliefs.

What they believe about Jesus is that he is a divine being ("a" god) but not The GOD .
As a matter of fact I was just reading a post on another discussion board where a JW Elder presents a case for interpreting John 1:1 that Jesus was the divine spokesman for God. I'm not sure posting a link to another discussion board is permissible or you could find out quite a bit about what they believe yourself.

They do not believe Jesus died on a "cross" ,but rather a torture stake- a pole set in the ground -although the greek "stauros" could be either-usually a torture stake has a sharpened tip where the person was impaled, but their pictures show Jesus suspended from a pole from the top with ropes holding his hands over his head.
It is true that JWs have to perform a certain number of evangelism hours-which some "opposers" (those who debate JW doctrine)[ not me,as you don't win souls by antagonism] occasionally refer to as punching their time card.

JWs do not celebrate holidays like Easter or Christmas as they consider them the result of Pagan influence.
The real issue with the attempt to portray Easter as a pagan holiday is an attempt to discredit the church.
They can present no credible evidence for their position-all the ancient cults that they mention as pagan precursors are simply ancient cults with dieties with some of the letters of easter in their names.like Astarte, Oestre, and other nonsense. The only christian uses of the term Easter are the KJV english translation of the word Pascha from the greek-which is the Pesach/Passover of the hebrew;and one instance from medieval times where the Bede (noted catholic figure) uses the term used in germany to denote the month in which the passover occurs (month named after deity, but nothing to do with christian observance of Easter.
As far as I am concerned christians are well able to distinguish between the celebration of the resurrection and the secular easter bunny stuff.
There is much more that JWs differ from christians in- but the basic thing is that they do not believe in the same Jesus as we do,and they believe that everyone is damned who does not believe their doctrine. (although their doctrine about 144,000 leaves out many anyways.
That is the main difference between a denomination and a cult-a denomination believes they have the truth, but that others may as well-a cult has a lock on the truth.
Hope this helps out. There are plenty more doctrinal differences, as well as some things you might find incredible.
No blood transfusions because the soul of a person is in the blood and there is evidence of people having transfusions and then displaying foreign behavior (I kid you not)
The one major objection that 'opposers' have is that JWs insist that the Watchtower org. is the sole prophetic voice of Jehovah for the world-despite the fact that it sometimes changes or contradicts itself -Jws refer to these instances as "new light".
I gotta stop.
Yours in Christ,
T.J.

hey evryone, thanks for the replies. i've been neglecting you all! i agree with conrack. the lady jehova that comes talks about both.
having said that, she still insists that jehova is the only true religion and i will die in armageddon if i dont convert. im not going to, i dont agree with some of the stuff, but then i dont agree with some of the christian things either. i wont convert cos i dont believe it matters what religion you are, as im thinking there is only one god and all religions are worshipping the same one.
as long as im not blowing ppl up and extreme things like that, im guessing he'll be fine with me!

Hmmm? Are you saying all roads lead to God?? Because if you are I would suggest you read John 14:6

Lurker -> RE: jehovas witness update (5/15/2008 9:37:56 PM)

I'm still disappointed I've never had some JW's come to my place. Nor have the Mormons either. :( It's odd, the only ones who've come to my door are some weird cultists, and... Catholics.

The Catholics turned out to go to the same parish I went to even! Admittedly it was a BIG parish and they attended mass at a different time from me, but it was funny. :)

That said, I'd love to debate some JWs or Mormons one day.

Frankly, they only come by when I am doing something else. And the minute one tries to debate with JWs, they scatter.

Jesus Christ says you're wrong:

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."

All you "have" to do is pray for some to appear. I bet God will oblige you!

Another thing you can do if you are so moved to do so is call a Kingdom Hall and ask for them to send a couple JW's out to you.

I met up with some Mormon gentlemen recently that totally took me by surprise. I was coming out of Kroger with my basket full of groceries. It was raining and these two nice, young men offered to help me. I thought they were Kroger employees. They totally caught me off guard. I was half way finished with unloading my basket so I thanked them and said they could just take my basket away--that was all I needed. Then they asked me "Do you know who we are?" Suddenly the light went on in my mind but I asked "Who are you?" They said Mormons and they would like to talk with me. In the pouring rain? Get real guys! But I responded "No thank you. I am Christian and though I know you consider yourselves Christians, too, we don't believe the same thing. So, no, I don't want to discuss anything with you."

God apparently wasn't finished. The next day here come two nice young men to my door. I don't know if they were the same young men or not, but you know how we Christians don't believe in coincidences. Well, here I had another opportunity to speak to them. What did I do? I hid in my house. I wouldn't answer the door. After they left I took my dog for a walk and hoped they were moved on down the street.

I came around the neighborhood pond and lo and behold, there they were. They were talking to my elderly Christian neighbor. They met up with the absolutely best person to share Christ with them! Later I asked my neighbor how his conversation went and he told me that they got really frustrated with him! I came away with the realization that God's purposes are not thwarted when we fail to "rise" to the occasion. God had my neighbor in place all along for those two young men to meet up with!

Just thought I would throw that out there and see what hate mail I get. :)

I don't know where you live, but the JW's that show up on my street look like they'd rather get poked in the eye with a sharp stick than have to do what they are doing. They stroll up the street at a snail's pace, skipping as many houses as they can, and spend more time chatting up each other than they do sharing their false message...and for that, I am grateful![sm=growlwarning.gif]

Yeah and I think that you send them to my house. [:D]

It's the last house on a dead-end street and we get 'em all!
