Amy is still active in the genre, but she has mostly been out of the limelight. Now if she gets involved in another scandal, then she'll be back in the news.

I've always liked Amy's voice but I don't collect her stuff. Age to Age is my ONLY CD. What impresses me (or depresses me, more like it) is how she's been drug through the mud BY CHRISTIANS!!! You would have thought that she started wearing devil horns onstage. It's amazing she hasn't given up on Christians altogether.

I agree with the last post. I mean, she hasn't talked about SEX or DRUGS! If she did, that would be TOTALLY different! I support her ALL the way! totally dig her.

Her music notwithstanding, she left her husband for another man. A husband who sought only reconciliation. There was no Biblical grounds for her divorce. You'll forgive me if I have a problem with this.....

Let's be fair here-yes Amy married Vince Gill shortly after her divorce, but so did Gary Chapman. "Born Gary Winther Chapman on August 19, 1957, in Waurika, OK; married singer Amy Grant, 1982; divorced, 1999; married Jennifer Pittman, 2000;..." For some reason, his quick remarriage is not mentioned much. And since he remarried so quickly after his divorce, it is possible he too was committing adultery during their marriage. I am not saying that what Amy did was right-but I have to wonder how and why Gary remarried so quickly after the divorce, and why that fact is often left out of the discussions. And from another blog (comments section -thrid one down): "The Chapmans' church disciplined them, and issued a statement that they were both guilty of covenant-breaking." And how many of us knew that Ryan Dobson, son of Dr. James Dobson, divorced his first wife in 2001? (Point number 5) "Ryan Dobson was divorced from Cezanne in 2001. Ryan was totally opposed to the dissolution of the marriage and there were no biblical grounds to justify it (No adultery involved.) Ryan has just recently remarried." Shouldn't they have as much scrutiny as Amy has?

ORIGINAL: eden512 Except for those of you who have lived perfect lives, God pardons you. ;-) LOL! I have been an Amy Grant admirer since her beginnings back in the 70's and faithfully purchased each new album she recorded from her first. Her songs really ministered to me...then and now.

As a Christian music artist myself, if I were to divorce my wife without Biblical basis, and take up with another woman with whom I had already been rumored to be romantic with, and marry that woman within the year...I cannot imagine me having much of a ministry or career in Christian music for very long. I have seen other artists and ministers lose their ministries over unbiblical divorces. Why Amy is given a pass is beyond me....

But then He has through Jesus. I don't think Jesus just died for everyone's sins before they became Christians. Peter denied Jesus three times, a sin Paul said carried the eternal penalty but Jesus forgave him. So let's leave Amy's state of soul between God and her. Also love covers a multitude of sins.

I bought a copy of her "Greatest Hits 1986 - 2004" the other day (I finally found a used copy of the limited ed. with the extra disc) - and realized it's easy to forget just how many good, solid pop tunes she recorded during this phase of her career. Even the Rolling Stone record guide (the mid 90s version) said something to the effect that she had never recorded a weak album. Sure, it's disposable, but most good pop music is - that's a large part of it's appeal. I haven't heard her last few albums, but I do have the live DVD which came out a year or so ago. I'll try to get around to watching it soon - maybe this weekend. I guess the one thing that's kept me at least semi-interested in her music all these years is that she always seems to pick really good songs to record and the musicians she uses are top notch and fit her style excellently. Is she still relevant today? What pop singer pushing 50 years old truly is?

Ah, the good old "hate" accusation, meaning that because we vehenemently disagree with some of her moral choices that we obviously must "hate" the woman.
I would go on, but once the "hate" card has been played, all bets for a rational discussion are off......
As far as her Moral (sic) choices go isnt there two sides to every story besides what you hear in the media. Hasnt Amy herself tackled some of the accusations against her but yet some still prefer gossip over reality. And im not trying to stir it up either im not a huge fan and im not singing her praises but most of the info we got was from second hand sources aka the news media and she was nearly crucifide for it before she even had a chance to rebuke it. Controversy sells I know I get drawn into it too but theres always two sides to every story and usually the juiciest bits win out over the substance. Enquiring minds want to know ; )

ORIGINAL: gaylel1 Well, let me say this--if it was not for Amy, the females of CCM would not gain a foothold in the door. And I mean it. And yes, I support and still support her because she has gone through a lot of flack from her haters, the tradtional gospel community and christians. I love the tradtional gospel, but I certanly don't hate Amy or any one else.Just because I don't agree with her singing style does not = hate.Do you hate me because I prefer the good ole fashion gospel style singing. There's a whole lot of Spirit filled brand new songs out there that I just love.
