So, I was listening to Petra's "Never Say Die" earlier today when the song "Angel Of Light" came on. The song is an absolute classic and got me thinking...what would people consider the greatest Christian rock songs of all time? Probably some Larry Norman, Daniel Amos, Rez Band, etc. nominees will undoubtedly appear. But what songs do you think stand as emblematic of Christian music in general? Here's a few of my suggestions: Petra "Angel Of Light" Petra "Judas' Kiss" DeGarmo & Key "666" Daniel Amos "Black Gold Fever" Jars Of Clay "Flood" Steve Taylor "Meltdown At Madame Tussaud's" Carman "The Champion" - I don't consider him rock either, but this song is total rock-n-roll Stryper "Soldiers Under Command" POD "Alive" Hmm...what are some of the more modern definitively Christian rock songs?

Oh wow, where to start? I'll throw a couple out thee: "Listen to Our Hearts" by Geoff Moore and Steven Curtis Chapman "(Can't Stop) Lovin' You" by Rez Band (especially the live version on their "Bootleg" live CD).

I would have to agree with Stryper "Soldiers Under Command!" I wouldn't put Jars of Clay in the "rock" category though. They are sort of in the pop-ish or "contemporary" category. Some newer stuff...because I'm not all that familiar with the older Christian rock bands: Stavesacre "At This Moment" and "The Trouble With Being Born" Kutless "Grace and Love" P.O.D. "Lie Down" Pillar "Behind Closed Doors" PAX 217 "Shalom" That's all for now.

Come on now, you can't leave out Audio Adrenaline "Never Gonna be as Big as Jesus" or several others by them. Or how about Kutless "Hearts of the Innocent"? Pillar "Frontline" or "Fireproof" I love "Breathe into Me" by Red. Could throw out many more. You never know if something will be a classic until it stands the test of time. But I think there is some new stuff out that has potential. I did grow up on Petra and Stryper and all, but I've pretty much moved on unless I'm feeling nostalgic.

How about "Light A Candle" from Whiteheart? Since we are looking at "white," then Whitecross' "In The Kingdom" comes to mind (and ear).

Wasn't that by Steve Camp instead? Also, are we talking strictly rock, or anything that may fall under "pop/contemporary as well? quote:
KAJAGOOGOO I reckon this is a different band than the one who had the 80's hit "Too Shy"?

Ooo, I wanna play! How about some classic Christian rock: Stryper - Together Forever, Makes Me Wanna Sing, To Hell With The Devil Bloodgood - Anguish and Pain, Killing the Beast, Demon on the Run, What's Following the Grave Petra - Angel of Light, Chameleon Some modern stuff that actually rocks: Delirious? - The entire Glo album, the entire Mezzamorphis album, the entire Touch album, the entire World Service Album... you get the idea! Decemberadio - Dangerous, Love Found Me Glenn Kaiser Band - Torch, Nick of Time, (pretty much anything he does!) Fee - All Because Of Jesus, We Shine, Broadcast Lots of other stuff, but the wife is home and I'd rather talk to her than type here!

I can think of a few though I concentrated on toons not mentioned, toons that rocked and toons that I thought were important: Love God Hate Sin - Mylon and Broken Heart No Way I'm Going Down - Whitecross I Wish We'd All Been Ready - Larry Norman (Not the greatest "rocker" but a very important song to those who listened to it when it was new) Yahweh - 2nd Chapter of Acts Honourable mention goes to Deliverance and Vengeance Rising when they somehow performed and got recorded the old worship chorus "Holy Holy Holy". ; )

I'm noticing Judas' Kiss by Petra is on several lists. And how can you not go wrong with this song? Backmasking, awesome convicting lyrics, great guitar parts and the synth at the end. The definition of Christian rock.

no,,its the same band but by kajagoogoo's 2nd & 3rd albums ( islands..aka..extra play in the USA & crazy peoples right to speak) their christian lyrics were right to the front & kaja's, Nick Beggs was very upfront about being a christian from day one as well as the other members in the band. after kajagoogoo's break-up, Nick Beggs from kaja was once the bassist for christian/celtic band Iona. quote:

Did he? I have "Extra Play" somewhere in my cassette inventory. I have Iona's videos on one of my VHS sets, too. They played them alot on my local Christian station back in the day...
