First, hello to everyone on the boards. This is my first post, and I'm super excited. I saw the group, the Old Paths, this past Sunday night. They were without their bass singer, but you would have never known it. Maybe being a trio would help them even more. There aren't that many trios ya know! I'm hoping their band is gonna be a permanent addition. It made them larger than life. The band looks really cool; clean, but not too conservative. The whole group came alive that night. It really didn't feel like a typical gospel concert with a piano, some tracks, and the same old stuff that all the groups do. It reminded me of some of the Third Day concerts I've been to, just with a southern gospel sound. Their lead is a powerhouse, and the baritone could sing high or low, and he is very smooth. I heard their tenor with the Kingsmen, but it doesn't even sound like the same guy. This guy was big and full. No falsetto that i could hear. Looked like he had lost some weight since he went with the old paths. They gave a moving alter call service to a full house. The spirit was so strong too. I also bought their cd and dvd. The cd audio seems different than the video, but they are both great. It gave me a chance to hear them with the bass singer. Not to sound biased, or offending, but I feel they are better without him, or with someone who doesn't growl his notes, or look like a bobble head on stage. All in all, I think they are my favorite group right now.

Welcome, sgfreak!! Hope you'll post often. I've got the CD and DVD as well, and I will have to disagree with your comments about the bass singer. Maybe you needed to see him in more than one performance, but he was a wonderful compliment to the rest of the singers. I think all basses "growl" occasionally, but I always felt that Brandon did much, much less of that than many other basses. I'm going to miss Brandon and hope that he will still sing even if it's with a part-time group. I do agree with you about Jeremy (the tenor). I like him much better with Old Paths than I did with the Kingsmen, but I only saw the Kingsmen a couple of times. I also think that Tim Rackley is one of the very strongest lead singers on the road today. And Doug is the icing on the cake! Can you tell I love these guys?!?!?!?

Dinana I agree 100% with your post. I think I have found a new favorite group and I really love them as a quartet.

I've been listening to their "Live" CD every morning when I'm getting ready for work. Doesn't look like it's going to get out of the CD player any time soon!!!!

Please! How can you say with any honestly that the old paths were better without a bass singer??? Either you haven't really listened to them with the bass singer or you are just plain deaf! And the bobble head coment was completely uncalled for and hateful! Brandon Barry added more than a smooth sound...he added character and fun and personality to the group. The tenor singer may be an awesome singer but he certainly is not a people person. Part of ministering as a group is being approacable and he isn't! That is what made the Cathedrals everyones favorite...they really cared about the fans and took time to be sociable. And the way rumors get started is on forums like this where well meaning folks talk about things they don't have a clue about. Brandon has not left the group...he is not gone and he is not being replaced! He has taken some time off to be with his family(his wife is pregnant). When the time is right and God leads...he will be back...with the Old Paths! He is not being replaced permantley! Rumors need to stop now. I gotta wonder just who exactly "sgfreak" is? Don't get on here and put down a fellow christian if you haven't got all the facts! Not cool! Just my humble opinion.

I usually would not post to this, as it is absolutely silly, and is not shedding good light on the Lord, or the Old Paths. I agree with bassluver though. The comment about Brandon could be very hurtful to him if he were to read it, and is not very fair, gathering your sole opinion on him just by watching a dvd. I recall being very proud of him the day of the dvd recording. We were on the GMT sound system, and the group before us had a really tough time hearing themselves, especially the bass. I talked with the audio crew, and asked them to leave the mics hot, and don't try to mix on the fly. We would work our mics accordingly. I felt that Brandon pulled it off very nicely. Then once I received all the audio files for the recording, I got to listen closely and noticed that Brandon had done as good as I though he did. Now I did all the mixing and editing, and I would be the first one to know 100% if someone had growled or produced a vocal fry on this recording, and I can promise you every note that he sang was dead on. No growls, or frying. I didn't even have to tune his low notes! ( I shouldn't have told that I use a tuner...lol) As for his persona on stage, he has a very enlightened personality. He is exciting, and fun to watch. I'll admit, I kinda chuckled at the whole bobble head comment at first, but its Brandon. People knows thats him. He's like that at ALL times! Now, I'm by no means trying to be pro-reactive from the comments about me, but I will say this. I'm a shy person. I'm also not very talkative. Thats me. I also try to conserve my voice after I sing, so I may not hang out long around the table, but most folks know that about me. But I am very approachable. I have met many wonderful people across this country that I am very close to as friends, and some even like family. I'm grateful for the talent that the Lord has given me, and am more than willing to share them on and off stage. The Old Paths are not in the business of demeaning or slandering their friends and group members; past or present. This whole issue has become very unprofessional from some outside sources looking in. We request that people respect the decisions made by Brandon, and the Old Paths, and continue to pray for Brandon and his family. I for one miss him already! Thanks for listening, and lets close this area of discussion. We all have our opinions, but sometimes they should be kept to one's self. Mama taught me that one!

He did indeed add a lot to the group. However, you like sgfreak, also need to get your facts straight before posting. As far as Jeremy is concerned, I have met him other than that and what we see of each other on these forums he does not know me from Adam's house cat. But we have shared several conversations by e-mail and PM or maybe it was just PM's. At any rate I find him to be very appoachable and friendly. The one time I saw them live the entire group was at the product tables after the concert to meet and talk to the fans. That included Jeremy. I know because I talked to him and all the others. Lets not get into the habit of bashing SG artist.

One of the first concerts I saw Jeremy at was when he first joined the Kingsmen (Could have been the firsts time he sang with them in Calhoun). He has always been very friendly and appoachable ever since I've know him. Guess him being kinda a Georgia Guy makes him that way. With him singing as great as he does, he needs to rest his voice as much as possible, if not he might land up having to take time off for vocal cord surgery of other vocal problems. We need him singing at all concerts they perform at with his wide range of voice. From tenor to bass, not many can do that. If they can not as well as Jeremy. God Bless you Jeremy and keep up the good work. See you on Monday.

I'm also throwing in my $0.02 about Jeremy Peace. Jeremy may not know our names, but the few times we've seen him at concerts, he has recognized us. Even more amazing, he recognizes us, not from going to his concerts, but from a Christmas party we all happened to be at. We didn't speak that night, but a couple months later at the Kingsmen Reunion, we approached Jeremy and he immediately said, "You were at the Christmas party at Shirley's!" Since then, Jeremy has greeted us like long-lost friends every time we've seen him. Also, Brandon was very friendly the one time we met him. Brandon is a great young bass singer, but even if he wasn't, he added a great deal to the Old Paths just with his personality.
