ORIGINAL: raivyne I was just baptized on Sunday. Good for you!! Praise the Lord! quote:
I think you can be saved and not baptized by physical waters. Baptism by the Holy Spirit though? I don't really know honestly. I wonder where the idea that we can be saved and not be baptized comes from. I sure don't see it in the Bible anywhere. quote:
For many people when they ask Jesus to come in and save them the outward change is slower to come. They have issues they are working through (with the help of the Lord)... internal struggles that may not immediately result in outward change. Good observations. quote:
I know I thought about getting baptized for four years before I actually did it. I wasn't ready... I hadn't fully repented yet. Once all those changes took place on the inside I didn't hesitate in arranging it with my pastor! So, were you saved during those four years even though you hadn't fully repented yet? And, before he got a drop of baptismal water on him.

No one can deny what Acts 2:38 says, they can explain it away with their opinion though. And anyone can read water into a verse that doesn't even mention water. Water does not, never has and never will wash away/remit sins ....only the blood of Jesus Christ does, always has and always will wash away our sins as the Holy Spirit applies this to our heart - the baptism of the Holy Spirit - just as Jesus promised.

ORIGINAL: disciplelife quote:
ORIGINAL: raivyne For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame (Hebrews 6:4-6) I'd have to agree, raivyne If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. (Heb 10:26-27) For this reason I tell you, people will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. (Matt 12:31-32) Salvation is not a guarantee, it is a gift. A gift which too many people take for granted. I see it on here all the time! disciplelife I would only like to say that I believe you must first become mature in faith, for most I would say that's a very long process. It is not overnight that one can digest all the knowledge and direction given in the bible. So long as we are truely seeking righteousness we will be within God's grace. quote:
ORIGINAL: FolkSingerBlues I would have to voice that my concern the continued practice of bringing a lot of "feeling" based experiences into this particular discussion. "I feel saved." "I feel like..." I would agree, the human heart is impure and inherently flawed. It will deceive and mislead you if relied upon.

If God demands repentance prior to saving someone does that mean that the repentance saved them or that God's grace saved them? As much as I'd like to continue, there's already a thread about repentance and salvation, so I'll let it drop here.

This would be a good time to explain something..something that none of you have to agree with. I cannot teach or discuss salvation and not include baptism with a clear conscious. I understand that there are MANY that do not believe that baptism even refers to water. You can either agree to disagree or you can be divisive. There is no doubt that I have Christian brothers and sisters that do not believe baptism is necessary and even those that have never been baptized. They have made their decision on the issue and in turn have a "clear conscious". I have read their reasoning behind those beliefs and just as many of you do come to terms with what I see as clear biblical teaching, I in turn cannot come to terms with their understanding of it either. In the end God's grace will have to be the blanket that covers us. I in turn do believe that He will hold us accountable for the "terms" we come to with his word. I am ready to answer for what I believe to be the truth based on continual study of the Scriptures and reliance on the Holy Spirit to teach me. Ignorance is not a crime when it is innocent, it's when ignorance is willful that it becomes a crime.
