Hmmm....certainly not nearly to the extent of many other scifi series, and not meant at all to be taken seriously. Perhaps you are someone who is extremely sensitive to such things and should avoid any remote/fictional connection at all costs?
Hardly, I am one who thinks about what I watch and read. Like I have said I have long enjoyed Dr. Who. Yet, there are things in content that I find troubling. I am not asking for anything to be "reconciled." I am asking a simple question, a question I ask myself. But, heh, it is just a TV show, the messages we expose ourself in our desire to be entertained and escape shouldn't really be discussed or examined.

Davies writing a lot of the stories and at the helm, you have an ongoing thread of redefining relationships and bascially concluding that all that matters is "love."

It's escapism. Like stateofgrace said, it's not meant to be taken seriously. If you feel guilty about it, perhaps you shouldn't be watching it?
As for love being all that matters, perhaps you should read 1 Corinthians 13:13
So since there is love, homesexuality is okay?

I've enjoyed Doctor Who since my childhood (when William Hartnell was the Doctor). I have *never* felt guilty about watching it, or any other science fiction programme that I've watched.
I don't believe in living in some kind of bubble - which is what I'd have to do if I wanted to avoid everything that contained any reference to this kind of thing. I'd have to have no TV, no radio, read no newspapers and not speak with any non-Christians (99% of the people in my town). I personally can watch programmes with non-Christian content without it dragging me down and have taught my children to be able to do the same, by discerning and discussing - but, if you can't, then, really, just don't watch it. But please, don't try to make others feel guilty about it.
If you want to discuss this anymore, and perhaps more in general, I would respectfully suggest you start a thread in Morality & Ethics, as this thread is basically a fan thread for Doctor Who.

I can't wait till Saturday either!! I tell you, no-one had better knock on the door or phone us from 6.40pm for the next hour! I might even take the phone off the hook at 6.30, in preparation!

I think that personally, if any believer finds a television show that they're watching, or a book that they're reading, "troubling" - they should, before anything else, step back and wait on the Lord for insight as to just why it is troubling for them personally.

And that's really funny IMO, because I would consider Doctor Who a program for older children, like adolescents and older. Or, pre-adolescents. About the age for Spiderman movies. It's someimes a bit scary, and occasionally has a high body count (like the Titanic episode). Most of the time Doctor Who has a TV-PG rating in the US, but I'll bet at least a few episodes have been TV-14. The Sarah Jane Adeventures seems to be firmly in the children's program arena. It would be more appropriate for Nick or Disney Channel in the US than SciFi, where it is being shown.

I've been watching Doctor Who since I was 5 or 6 (when William Hartnell was the Doctor). It was on at 5.50pm on a Saturday night, and my dad used to watch it, so I did. A lot of the time it was the music that was scariest for me!!
I think it has been scarier since it was "relaunched" with Christopher Eccleston, and now David Tennant. Though "Terror of the Autons" in 1971 was probably one of the most scary ones I've ever seen, still to this day!
My dd was 11 when she started watching it, and has been fine. I'm not sure how I'd have felt about under 10s watching it - not sure what we'd have done if our children had been younger! I think it would have depended on the individual child.

Ah, I was wondering how come Canada gets the episodes on the same day as us in the UK!

Yeah, I think you really want to warn those of us in the USA about avoiding anywhere that might contain spoilers for the next few weeks, if we don't want to be spoiled. Considering that I am spoiled, at least in this case...I'm not sorry that I know, but if you don't WANT to know, best to stay away from sci-fi web sites and UK news sites for a while.

I really like this new Dr. Who as opposed to the older series. This Doc is, well, more human than the other Time Lord. Of course, it is sad that Gallifry is gone, (Or is it???) But this Doc exposes more of his pain of destroying his homeworld. He actually FEELS stuff. Love, hate, regret. On the episode where he gets a cloned daughter, he stated he can't stand looking at her b/c he remembers his family. mmmm . . . Was our Doc actually married??? And did he have kids? I think his mom died some time ago as well as his dad, so . . . I'm also wondering about the dear Dr. Rain Song. Was she a lover in the future, who died in the past?? There's so many questions!! I want them answered.
It's good to know K-9 is with Sara Jane, but what about the Master??? OI!!!

This is what has always bugged me about almost every show on TV. Someone dies for the hero, then the hero goes off to another adventure, without a care in the world. But I've noticed with this doc, there seems to be a kind of depression on him, like he's running from something, but won't say what it is. Maybe his past, pain, something. It's there. When the group slows down and rests, it comes out, a little at a time. At least that's the impression I get. He's running from something and it keeps chasing him. It will be interesting when it finally catches up to him. 
I'm hoping the writers will continue with this, maybe even push the doc to the edge, so to speak.

I remember one Dutch channel would start shows about a certain time, but it really could be 5 minutes in either direction.
. While I'd like to visit some of the US produced programmes, I have to avoid because of the spoilers!
