momma-mo -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (11/4/2008 8:12:16 AM)

In the old series they made it quite clear that there were just so many regenerations for the doctor. But, in the newer series they don't mention that there is a limit. DH and I are wondering if they are going to conveniently never mention it and hope this new generation of Whovians will not know any better. Even if they do mention it I'm sure they'll find a way around it if they want to keep the show going.

David Tennant was a well known actor in Great Britain way before we saw his adorable mug replace Christopher Ecclestin's! He's only a new face to us Yanks. (And now the millions who are crushing on him are crushed with the news...[:D] )

We won't see any new Who until a bit after Christmas. This will only add to the torture of those of us who follow both Doctor Who and Lost...because ABC also tortures the Losties. At least BBC America will start the Donna series in a few days.....(I love the first episode, "Partners In Crime" where they do that bit through the windows at each other! And the popping up and down in the office area. They both can handle comedy well!)

Anyway....GO VOTE EVERYONE!

Didn't the BBCA just finish that season with Donna?

So they're gonna replay it for those who might've missed it?

momma-mo -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (11/4/2008 5:05:51 PM)

Maybe it's the sci-fi channel that's going to do the Donna series. Ahhh, I get them mixed up! I have my dvr set to record any Doctor Who on either channel.

[:D]me, too

can't get enough of The Doctor

agapetos -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (12/23/2008 3:49:19 AM)

Looking forward to Thursday. I've been watching the reruns of the last series and can't help but pick up on the number of one-liners that suggest David T wouldn't be back. Don't know if they were clues or I'm reading into it.

When do you in the US see the 'Christmas special'?

I wonder what's going to happen with the specials that they're filming ~ whether they're going to be on spread through the year or not.

momma-mo -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (12/23/2008 9:41:02 AM)

Hopefully we will see it in January. We're not as far behind you as we used to be.

stateofgrace -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (12/23/2008 10:58:15 AM)

Last year, we had to wait for the Christmas special but we were like 3 weeks behind the UK in the regular shows. I don't know what SciFi plans to do this year regarding the specials, whether they will spread them out or air them all at once. SciFi does tend to want to counter-program on non-sweeps periods with it's most well known scripted series, like our USA Network does. Since "sweeps" periods for ratings are November, February, and May, that's when the broadcast networks put on the shows that they think will get them the most ratings (for example, American Idol will run from January to May here, and the finals will begin in February).

momma-mo -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (12/23/2008 1:32:43 PM)

I had heard that the specials would be spread out.

agapetos -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (12/26/2008 7:17:43 AM)

Soooo.... anyone who saw it... what did you think?

I loved it, though I admit that I caught on to the situation pretty quickly for me.... Loved the 'Allons-y' and the ummm... elevator/tow scenes.

Can't wait for the specials... though am wondering who will be the Doctor for the Christmas special next year to lead into series 5.

agapetos -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (1/2/2009 12:35:01 PM)

The new doctor is going to be revealed tomorrow.. [:D]

everythingat -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (1/3/2009 7:39:31 AM)

ADKFJDAFK!

I've been reading for the past two weeks and haven't kept up with any television, aside from the Christmas special. I wouldn't have even known if you hadn't mentioned it, agapetos! Now I'm way too excited.

Speaking of the Christmas special, I liked it a lot more than The Poseidon Adventure from last year. Yeah, the twist was obvious...and exactly what the Cybermen were doing was a bit of a mystery. It was very entertaining though. The effects were extravagant, but added to the excitement for me.

LOL... Not much longer to wait... but a long wait until we see him/her in action...

David T was shown on the news talking about it and said that he was a bit jealous of 'the new chap' (which had people specilating that it was another man, not a woman) and then added that they would have 'a lot of changes'.

agapetos -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (1/3/2009 1:02:13 PM)

And the new doctor is.... Matt Smith

stateofgrace -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (1/3/2009 2:52:44 PM)

I called it right regarding them picking someone young - he's 26. A big background in theater but likely unknown outside the UK.

Shouldn't that be theatre?[;)]

Not sure that I liked the way they played the bit out about the new doctor, but was great fun to see so many clips of the old ones.[:D]

This came up in the special (I think, somewhere anyhow!) and it was said that the Time Lord's impossed the number of regenerations. Given the Dr is the last known Time Lord, it would make sense that he continues regenerating as necessary.

I'm finding it curious having someone who isn't incredibly well known step into the Dr's shoes ~ and what big shoes they are to fill! I liked the interview with him where he said they called and offered him the job and he spent 10 minutes pacing around his room, he was so happy and shocked and everything ~ I've done that a couple of times with jobs I've been offered.

But 26! So young! And we have such a long wait to see him.

Yup.

Yawn.

Sigh.

agapetos -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (1/6/2009 9:56:42 AM)

I'm trying to keep an open mind... but can't help thinking he's too young...

doinkdom -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (1/6/2009 11:17:28 AM)

My mind is NOT that open[:D]
and he appears (at least in pictures, cause I know he' got fans somewhere) to be a more geekier Doctor than the last couple.

Yep...we'll see I guess.

stateofgrace -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (1/6/2009 1:15:58 PM)

I don't think he can outdo David Tennant in pure geeky loveliness.

Yep... can't wait until he's on our screens again, whether as Dr Who or in some other role...

My first thought was Goth/Emo, YUK, then even Herman Munster. Then "oh just too young" - I mean, the guy is young enough to be my son. [&:] Having watched Dr Who since the days of Hartnell, I am just not used to that kind of scenario.

I just hope he is as amazing in the actual role as they seem to think he is going to be.

agapetos -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (1/6/2009 7:13:44 PM)

Well, to his credit, he's picked up 2 Olivier awards so he must have something...

I think they've taken a big risk with someone so young (and pretty unknown) but then I suspect anyone would be a risk after David Tennent.

I hope he does somthing with his hair though... [&:]

DaveW -> RE: Dr Who is coming back (1/7/2009 12:33:12 PM)

When did the SF channel play the Dr Who holiday specials? (or has that not happened yet?) I saw no ads for it whatsoever.....
