I was just wondering, what have you done to save more at the pump?? What kind of cars do you drive? What mpg do you get?

i drive an 11 year old buick lesabre....runs great...about 20 or so MPG....paid for A LONG time ago...

So, do I go out and get a NEW car.....pay $25,000+ for it, just to save a few bucks on gas?.....

especially knowing that I put almost 20,000 a year on it....it's strictly a "Commuter" car for my 35 mile drive....it's comfortable....and, as I mentioned, runs great.

NOW, when it comes time to replace this car (unreliability sets in)....then, yeah....i'll look harder at MPGs....

140,000 miles...with many more to go.

my vue needed more in repairs than what is worth so I traded it in and got a matrix which is average 28-30 mpg (half city, half freeway right now)

I don't recommend buying a car to save on gas mileage but my gas bill will be cut in half so extra will be added to the payment.

I drive a Nissan Versa hatchback, I get 35mpg. Gas mileage was a factor when we bought the car, but not the reason we traded, my Hyundai Santa Fe was becoming a problem and we needed to get rid of it before it cost us more in repairs. I fill up every two weeks and spend about $25. I too dont recommend changing cars JUST for gas mileage, I dont think its worth it, unless you come upon a VERY good deal.

I drive a 2006 Ford Mustang and I have no idea what the gas mileage is.

1995 GMC Jimmy here. I've made some changes like fewer single surpose trips, especially for shopping and fewer trips to neighboring towns. I've looked at riding the bus to/from work, but gas prices are not yet so exhoritant for me to spend up to 90 minutes each way for a 15-20 drive in my truck. Will mileage be a consideration when I eventually replace the Jimmy? Yes, but not for many more years.

I drive so little that I could buy a Hummer and it wouldn't make much difference.[:D]

We did replace my 1995 Lumina--which got 18mpg--with a minivan that gets 24mpg in the city, and which we also use for trips.

I walk more, and I'll probably buy a bicycle to ride this summer.

I also keep my gas tank full most of the time. This helps with evaporation. At these prices every fume counts. I also use some additives, and that helps as well.

I drive a plymouth voyager minivan. It has about 198000 miles on it. I fill up every two weeks: about 250 miles and it costs between $45-50. I try to save trips. For example, my church is 15 mins away from the house. So, when DD1 has youth group we go to my parents' house which is only 5 mins away for those 2 hrs instead of coming all the way home. I try to do all my trips at one time. I work a scheduled job after school doing extended care at the school my mom works at. I also clean her house once a week and another lady's every other week. Those three jobs are all closer to eachother than to my house. I try to do the cleaning jobs on days when I am up that way for the school job. If there's no school one day I don't go up for the other jobs. If I need to meet with someone at the church I try to do it when I am already up that way too.

2007 GMC Sierra Crew-cab dually diesel truck.

17 mpg.

needed for hauling horses and hay, so when I decided to go to one vehicle, had to have something big.

My driving habits haven't changed much and probably won't. I always drive as little as possible (...20K miles/year average) so will continue with current pattern.

I drive a diesel pickup too. And its over $4 a gallon to fill it. And its finally changing how and when I drive. We are trading the wifes minvan for a suburban soon. And Im sure we will get a small commuter type car for the small trips ect.

I had to get a new car since my 10-year-old Mazda Protege' gave up the ghost at around 230,000 miles. I now have an '06 Mazda6 s (V6); I love everything about the car EXCEPT the milage. I get a combined 22 mpg which seems to be within the range of many 6-cyl. sedans, but I sometimes wish I had gotten the 4-cyl Mazda6 i or the Mazda3 i which gets up to 32 mpg highway.

We have 3 cars we use for different purposes:

A 1989 Ford Probe, 320,000 miles, average betwen 39.9 and 42.7 mpg. This is my main commute/around town car.

A 2001 Ford Taurus, 78,000 miles, average around 26.9 mpg. My wifes' usual transportation and our "vacation/going out of town" family car.

A 2006 Ford Escape compact SUV, 15,000 miles, around 23.7 mpg. Our utility vehicle for hauling stuff. Quite frankly we never could get the Marshall Full-stack, VOX AC30, and 2-3 guitars in the other cars very comfortable. The 4x12 speaker cabs just demand a trailer or SUV body style (if you don't understand, ask a musician).

I've got a '97 Thunderbird that gets good mileage, and I got a great deal on the car because it was part of a class action law suit on the Thunderbirds. But the "defect" has been dealt with and the car has been running great for two years. Gets 23 in town and about 28 miles on the road.

But the next car I buy, which I hope to this year, I'll shoot for 30 mpg or better.

What about the added weight from the gasoline? Doesn't that reduce your mileage?

Not from what I can tell. I've calculated it about every way I can think of, and evaporation is more of a problem when it's low than reduced mileage is when it's more full.

I don't drive; I don't even own a car (but in all honesty, it's not because of the price of gas; I haven't driven in 8 years).

However, I'm very glad that I don't have to buy gas; I rarely even know how much gas is going for these days; last time I saw prices was probably about 2 weeks ago, and before that was several months.

My '96 LeSabre gets between 23 and 29, depending on how I drive it. My commute is 26 miles one way, mostly on a highway. When we took it on a 600+ mile round trip a few years ago, we got over 30. I'm guessing your Buick and mine are almost the same.

Evaporation? What car are you driving? I don't see how it makes a difference, since almost all cars since the 70's have carbon canisters to catch the fumes and pipe them to the engine to be burned.[sm=sadquestion.gif]

You got 320K out of an 89 Probe? On the original motor??

Anywho, I have a 2000 Mustang GT with some performance modifications. Believe it or not, at 75 cruising I can get 23mpg. Around town, a lot of stop and go, 14mpg. I put about 2500 miles a year on it though, so no big deal on the gas.

I change the fuel filter once a year, run full synthetic amsoil motor oil in it, change out all transmission fluid once every 2 years. Trans fluid is overlooked by too many people. That can be a factor in fuel mileage.

I dropped about 8 mpg when I switched from my Escort to my Cutlass.

On the plus side, this 17-year-old car has half the miles my 10-year-old car had. And it was FREE.

I'd be happier with lower MPG but I'm not gonna quibble ... though I have been meaning to get my oil changed and a possible tune-up.

I just bought a used Saturn that gets 35 mph on the highway and 30 around town. I love my Saturn!!!

We're getting ready to buy a new one this summer or fall(not for better gas mileage, but because we need to replace mine) and gas mileage is definitely a very important factor to what we choose. I commute an hour to school and even the cheap gas is now $3.75 here. [&:] My car gets about 30 right now, but what we're looking at (the Toyota Corolla) gets about 35(two friends who own one say they get close to 40), so it will definitely help some. It costs me about $11(and rising) everytime I have to drive to school and back, so every little bit will help.

It's times like these that I miss my Mazda. I got fantastic gas mileage with it. I wonder how the Subaru stacks up against it. I'm probably going to buy a Subaru next time around simply because they are great cars for the rough out area where I live, and I understand they get good gas mileage.

Most Subarus fair pretty well in fuel mileage I believe..but nothing fantastic. A lot of those are AWD..more weight, less fuel mileage.
