MamaMilty -> Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 2:14:21 PM)

Just for fun...I just got a new VeraBradley cover and it is so pretty! I haven't used a cover in a while, I was in the habit of bringing a smaller pocket bible with me to church. It was so nice to have my big, beloved bible with me today!

Ellie-Mae -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 2:17:55 PM)

Yes, that is how I keep my Bible in such good shape. Although it is usually on upside-down...

Mrs.Wifey -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 2:25:47 PM)

Nope, I just toss it in my purse(which is big enough to house a small dog).

PrincessDonna -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 2:34:20 PM)

Nope, but I do carry it in a tote bag, so it's protected and all my "stuff" stays together.

isaacsmom -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 3:49:09 PM)

My compact snap-cover Bible -- no cover, it's pretty dog-eared from being carried around for years and tossed in my backpack in college and my purse now.

My $140, discontinued, Moroccan leather, black-letter edition Thompson Chain my parents gave me for graduation 9 years ago-- Most definitely covered.

Those are the two that I carry most. I have a cover on my Student Life Application from high school as well. No covers on my other Bibles.

PrincessButtercup -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 3:58:58 PM)

I used to have a Bible cover all the time. But for some reason or another, I just don't now.

I really ought to though because I'm clutzy, and I really don't want to ruin my Thompson Chain.

BrowneyedAL -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 4:06:45 PM)

I don't but I've been thinking I should get one...I've looked at them several times in the bookstore...but I usually end up finding so many other things I want in there that I don't end up spending the money on a cover.[sm=dollars.gif]

BlessedMamaofmany -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 4:08:18 PM)

I do. It's a cute denim/pink one that I got on sale.
Can you put up a link to the VB cover you have Jen? I love VB and want to see what you got!!
Sandy

Auben -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 4:20:25 PM)

Nope. I did as a child but it slid around and seemed rather fussy.

_Cinderella_ -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 4:23:18 PM)

yes, I have a Thomas Kinkade one currently.

MamaMilty -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 4:26:22 PM)

I got one like THIS (but I paid much less!)

BrowneyedAL -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/30/2008 4:53:45 PM)

Cute, Cute Jen...I like it.

artemis -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 8:38:45 AM)

I don't have a Bible cover... which is probably why my Bible is held together by duct tape [;)] That and the fact that I've had it since high school. It still has my maiden name printed on the front, but it's so faded that I doubt anyone can see it unless they're looking for it [:)]

KatMack -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 8:57:22 AM)

Nope, but I have a cute bag that my momma bought be for my birthday. It's just the right size for my Bible, my current Bible Study book and our Sunday School reader. Even has little pockets on the side for my pens and highlighters. It's blue with blue and brown stripped ribbon and has Proverbs 31:28 embroidered on the front. I LOVE it! Just found a link!

lexie -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 9:07:22 AM)

I don't have one, but I want to get one. Right now Dh carries our Bibles and songbooks to church in one bag. But I always have papers flying out of my Bible whenever I open it up, so I want a cover that I can keep my pen and paper in as well. I just haven't found any I like yet (well I've found ones I like but not in my price range). I'm hoping to find one before June when we head to the US for a church convention so I can be organized this time around!

HisCovenant -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 9:19:18 AM)

Absolutely! I need a place for my pens to mark my Bible up and add cross references. [;)] I have two requirements in a cover- it must be leather and the handles must not be on the spine, but on the open side. Those two requirements are so it will be durable and so I won't accidently dump everything out of it if I pick it up unzipped. That makes it a little hard to sneak out of Sunday School to make it to choir. [:D]

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 9:22:50 AM)

I don't have one. I've actually never cared for them. For me, they just get in my way.

I do have a small tapestry bag that I carry my bible and my notebook in though.

MamaMilty -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 9:30:07 AM)

That's a really cute tote, Kat!

Welcome home, His Cov-er-Zippy! Great to *see* you again! Do you take your bible out when you use it? I find those side handles to be annoying, they get in my way when I have my bible in my lap.

Okay, here's another ?...

How many colors have you used in your bible?...and do you date your notes? (ok, 2 ?'s)

HisCovenant -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 9:41:12 AM)

My handles are long enough that they can be tucked in under the Bible while I use it. Yes, they can get in the way. I haven't taken my Bible out of it since I put it in there (maybe three or four years ago?)

I have a pencil with 8 colors and a black micron that I use. I don't use my colored pencils in my Bible much now because I have trained myself to be observant without their use... although I do mark something in color that I want to jump out at me. Currently, I am marking everytime I see the word "heart" or "love" because I have been shocked at how much it is used in the OT. I've always been taught the lie that the OT was just about following the law, so I have been really surprised as I study the OT to find that the OT was mostly about having a heart for God and that the law was intended by God to be works that flowed out of that love for Him. Anyhow, that's another thread... I also mark all prophecies and their fulfillment.

Mrs.Wifey -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 9:50:30 AM)

Zippy, it's such an important skill to learn to pay attention without marking, isn't it? It was something my Dad helped me learn when he was pastoring.

I use Zig super fine pens in my Bible as they don't bleed through. Our church studies verse-by-verse so we do an entire book at a time, not much point in marking dates when we study that way. I used to take notes but now that I have Gabby I usually just scribble the most key points down on the bulletin insert and save it in my notebook pocket.

MamaMilty -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 9:55:47 AM)

LOL, Ryanne, I have gaps in my notes from squirmy or nursing babies! I like to date and note the pastor/teacher. I find that it jogs my memory of the whole lesson when I come back upon it.

I'm not sure I know what you all mean by being observant w/o marking, care to expound abit? I have always marked verses that spoke to me or I was advised to so that they were easily found later...

lexie -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 9:59:42 AM)

Hmm...I use whatever colour I have available.

If there is a passage that really hits me I usually underline it or put a bulletin point at the beginning and end. If there is a passage that corresponds with another one that I want to draw my attention to I write it at the end of the verse. Sometimes I will write one-liners at the top or bottom of the page (good quotes from the pastor or bible class teacher) or jot down things on the blank pages at the back of my Bible.

I have a notebook for when I want to take down the passages used during the sermon.

HisCovenant -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 10:00:02 AM)

Yep! You were lucky to learn from your dad. I didn't even know of "observing" until I was about 25. I was taught to interpret w/o observing much. [:'(]

I only mark dates if it is something special... like a conference I am at or if a good friend preaches and I want to remember hearing him. Most of what I write in my Bible is what's "already in the Bible" and very little that a speaker/pastor/teacher says. For example, if in the OT it says "it was the 7th month" when such and such feast occured, I may write "Feast of Booths." Or maybe a reminder that Mt Sinai and Mt Hebron are the same mountain. Or maybe a Greek or Hebrew defination if the connotation is different than the English. Or a cross reference where Peter and James spoke on the same subject. My current Bible has verb tenses marked, but before I got it I also marked tenses in the Greek often because the English tenses can lose something in translation.

HisCovenant -> RE: Do you use a bible cover? (3/31/2008 10:16:42 AM)

I started our using the Precept Ministries method of Inductive study where you are taught to mark each key word distinctively, their synonoms, and their pronouns so you could go back and make lists of what was said in the Bible without missing anything the Bible said about the subject. It's very important to observe the Black and White of what's said before you start figuring out what the passage means so you don't leave out parts and come up with a wonky interpretation.

After marking my Bible obsessively for a year or two, I trained myself to observe without marking key words. I still study inductively, but don't have to so so using a Precept Bible study. I still do so often so that my observation, interpretations, and applications are checked and and so that I am held accountable by other Christians, but you don't have to be a part of that ministry to study inductively. It's just how I was introduced to it and the best current resource I have available for a really deep Bible Study.
