First . . . I'm glad that you are so happy.



Now . . . I'm probably going to be a wet blanket, but I'm not doing so maliciously.
I hope you know that.

When I read your post yesterday, I kinda cringed.

For you see, hating people - for any reason - is never rooted in love.
Sometimes there are people that I absolutely do not like, but that doesn't mean that I hate them. There are some people, I guess, that in my mind I could probably justify hating them; but I never want to get to that point . . . because there really is no justification for such hatred. Incidentally, the best way to protect oneself from hating someone else is to earnestly pray for them. Plus, when I pray for someone; not only does it prevent me from hating them, but eventually I will also realize that somewhere along the line, I've even stopped disliking them. Admittedly, that part, for me, comes in degrees . . . which just tells me that I need to keep praying for them.

Hate really messes up a person's heart . . . and if a person's heart is messed up and filled with anger and bitterness (fruits of hatred), then they really have no chance of anything Good while in such a condition . . . and there's not a lot of Good than can emanate outwards neither.

I know that is not what you meant by what you said . . .

However, to answer your question, No, I really never have thought what you asked. We are to rejoice with our brothers and sisters; not hate them out of jealousy or covetousness. I can feel sadness for something in my own life but simultaneously still be very happy for the events in someone else's life.

Beside, I know that Our Father is my Provider of absolutely everything. I look to HIM for my joy; not to the circumstances that may or may not be in my life at any moment.


I realize that some people might say, "Sharon-Marie, lighten up; it was just an expression."


However, I firmly believe that we feed our soul by senses - what we see, hear, speak . . and yes, even think.



Philipians 3:8 tells us, "Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.

. . . And the God of Peace will be with you
(end of verse 9).



Terri, I love you.
Be encouraged in Our Lord.

And be most abundantly blessed.

Hate is the wrong word to use. I hate no one. I should have said 'dislike at the moment', because I am happy for them, just wish it were me.

. . . But, why would you even dislike them? Or even their situation?

If you share good news about your life with someone, would you want them to dislike you or your situation because of it?

I don't see the two as being connected; i.e., I don't see the situations in someone's life as being connected to the lack of the same situation in someone else's life.

For instance, we're coming up on two of the hardest months of the year for me. Everything is so centered around family and family gatherings.

But it's no one's fault that they have family; in fact, that's an absolutely wonderful thing!
I can be truly happy for someone's situation . . . even in the midst of hoping for what they have but I do not. Even in the midst of feeling sad that I don't have that.

Admittedly, there will probably be times when I don't read very many threads during those two months; because it can get painful hearing about family gathering after family gathering. But when I do hear about them, I don't have to translate any pain I might feel about my not having any family towards dislike to them or even to their situation.

For you see, Terri, regardless of any of our situations, Our Lord is always with us and will always take care of us. He will also always comfort us when we need it.


I'm truly not trying to rain on your parade.
But what concerns me is the possible underlining outlook.

Happiness is fleeting. The Joy of Our Lord never is.
Our circumstances should not determine our joy.



If you want me to drop the subject, I will.
But please know that none of this is written to hurt you; in fact, it's all written to encourage you.

Ummm...

I understand where you are coming from. Envy is an ugly thing. I hope everyone finds what I have if they don't already have it. I guess its just a phrase i'm used to hearing. One I probably shouldn't use.

Nope, its a heart. Its a statue that was on the Plaza when I went to Kansas City last year. Its a cute little guy stealing a heart.

So I got a message from a friend of mine today. She says that her husband wants a divorce because he doesn't love her anymore. She is having a really hard time with it. I totally understand. It makes me really sad. I know i've made comment to her about how I could tell in pictures how in love they were.

I honestly don't know how i'd feel if that ever happened to me. I'm sure i'd be crushed. I told her I didn't know what to tell her. Just that God will help her through. What do you say to somebody in that situation?

Trust me Terri, You said the right thing because God IS in control. You were honest and nothing beats that. Sometimes all we can do is share (to the best of our ability) the tears, pain and struggle of our friends. The Bible plainly states to "bear one another's burdens".

Amen! I feel like commenting on this one statement because I see it a lot IRL. It is such a very great blessing to be able to do this. I know people who just cannot stand to see someone else be happy. That's crazy to me. Just because I don't have something or some circumstance in my life hoovers, doesn't mean that someone else shouldn't have that thing or be in their happy circumstances. That's like saying, if I can't be happy, I don't want anyone else to be happy, either.

I would hate to live that way. Much better to rejoice with others in their happiness.
