wareaglekd -> National Emergency Could Halt Elections - Is That True? (3/31/2008 9:47:44 AM)

I heard last night that if President Bush declares a National Emergency as a result of depression or recession, he could issue an executive order to halt the elections & remain President. Is that true? kd

Do you remember where you heard it? Was it a news outlet that you might be able to post a link? I ask because if you heard it second hand, the person talking about it may have misunderstood. I've never heard of a national emergency being called for economic conditions, although the markets have closed early or halted trading...but those aren't governmental entities. National emergencies usually are natural disasters, like a hurricane or tornados. Now, I could see delaying voting for people's safety in that sort of a situation. But, no, I haven't heard anything like what you are describing. I think the person you heard this from may be blending two different news items.

Don’t think it would happen because of economic reasons, but it could happen because of a natural disaster (hurricane, major earthquake, rogue asteroid/comet [:D]).

*** putting on tin foil Conspiracy theory hat ***
Now it’s been said, if a major terrorist attack occur right before the general election. Bush would have the power to suspend the elections, declare martial law and pretty much run the country until this so-called threat has been neutralized. Knowing how things are that threat could last for years. Can we say president for life.
*** taking off tin foil Conspiracy theory hat ***

I thought a pre-trib meant that you were a pre-millenial.

Apparently, in some circles, the question as to whether the Beast has come and gone is so settled that the definition of pre-trib as changed.

See, that's one of the things about the Bush presidency, he always keeps you guessing as to what is what. Like before he defined it I bet you thought compassionate conservative had nothing to do with bigger government or agreeing with the World Court to have jurisdiction over our own courts.

Perhaps the Beast is here and will be with us for 4 MORE YEARS!!![8|]

Does that make Cheney the Son of Perdition? Or was that Rumsfeld?

Yeah, the guy survived the hunting accident. [:D]

edit: okay that was a bad joke, but I want it clear I'm referring to Teddy, which I think is whom Ben is referring to. [8D]

Oh, touchee Ben!

It was mentioned in a church meeting last night. I consider the people I go to church w/ up on things & would not have misunderstood that, but never know for sure.

My brother once told me, & I don't give him much clout on stuff since I'm not 100% sure where he is spritually, but he once had a dream where he saw Bush w/ a purple turban on his head. He became the anti-Christ. Just kind of interesting considering world affairs now & how crazy this election is going. He must of heard that from somewhere & not just dreamed it. k

Yes, all the secrets of the end times in a hermetically sealed envlope in a mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnalls' porch.

Back to the topic at hand; I heard this same rumor at the end of Bill Clinton's presidency. Just type in "election cancel national emergency" in any search engine and you will find a plethora of links to conspiracy theories concerning Bush canceling the 2008 elections due to a "national emergency".[sm=hammerhead.gif][sm=hammerhead.gif][sm=hammerhead.gif]

Simply proves that those medications don't work unless taken as prescribed. And sometimes not even then.

if that were the case, then the elections of 1980 would have been halted....things were WAY worse back then.....

how soon people forget what REALLY "hard times" really are....today's "economic issues" are merely a "blip" on the charts...

stamper_ben -> RE: National Emergency Could Halt Elections - Is That True? (5/6/2008 3:22:43 PM)

I have a leftwing cousin who is of the opinion that Rush Limbaugh is calling on the skinheads to cause riots at the Denver convention as part of a cointelpro plan to then have Bush declare marshal law and halt the election!

Yee Haw![8|]
