NEWNAMEGIRL -> RE: Jason Waldroup Leaving Greater Vision (4/1/2008 3:14:40 PM)

I must start by saying that I'm very, very, sad to see this happen to Greater Vision. :( I really enjoy seeing them together in concert, and they were one of the first S.G. Groups that I ever saw. I fell in love with the music, blend, and heart. All that being said I really feel that this will be a HUGE decision for the group! I would love to see Danny Funderburk come on board, maybe I'm just dreaming but I dont think anyone would disagree with that decision. If that happened Greater Vision would not skip a beat...

I'm not arguing......[:D]I'm throwing out opinions too.

IMO, Greater Vision should look for someone with a higher register to compliment Gerald's powerhouse voice and range instead of keeping him down at the low baritone. Don't get me wrong, Greater Vision is one of my favorite groups, but to me, Gerald wasn't as fully unleashed vocally with Jason as he was with Chris Allman.......but maybe they are more comfortable with the lower keyed songs.

Whoever they pick, Jason's shoes are going to be tough to fill.........(and I will certainly miss hearing him sing!)

So exactly why is Gerald singing baritone instead of Rodney?

They switch off singing lead and baritone on various songs. The baritone part has less wear on the voice, and trading off lets them each sound their best when it really counts.

Ok, I can see that, but it seems that having a lower tenor was part of the whole "wear on the voice" theory. If they suddenly got a "Brian Free" type of tenor, even the baritone becomes high. Derrick Selph is singing in the lead range on a number of BF&A songs just because they're keyed that much higher. Look for them to replace Jason with a tenor not much higher (if at all).

That's easy for you to say. [:D] Try singing it for ten years 3 nights a week and constantly having to invert the harmony. It gets rough on us old men.[:)]

Yea, you have a valid point, Sam. Baritone is probably the trickiest part to sing (I've sung all 4 parts) because you are constantly going up into lead range and then going down into a lower, blending register depending on the song. Lead may be high, but it's always "lead."

Oh, they switch out all the time!!! At one of the NQCs, Gerald mentioned how funny he thought it was that he (Gerald) was considered the "lead" for Greater Vision. He said that many, many times, it is Rodney singing lead! A lot of times I can't tell who is singing the lead.......unless I have on headphones. Then I can always tell which one is singing which part.

Billboy -> RE: Jason Waldroup Leaving Greater Vision (4/1/2008 8:46:22 PM)

I am sorry to see Jason go, but happy he is following God's call. When we saw them in late Feb., they said he had sold his house right next door to Gerald's, and the possibility he might be leaving popped into my mind at that time. He will be missed, and we certainly wish him well.
Per other comments in other posts, I had also thought that Rodney was singing the lead more often than before, but he and Gerald interchange lead and baritone rather seamlessly.
On the previous Aaron Hise discussion as a possible replacement, he sang tenor for a regional group in S. Illinois called "Eastern Sky", not long before he left to sing with the Whisnants. Kasey Kemp, of Naomi and the Segos, was also in that group.

I wish Jason the best. You can never go wrong when you let GOD lead you!! We will miss hearing you with GV though.

Sadly some folks believe that if someone leaves the gospel music arena, that they will no longer be affective in ministry.
I am happy for Jason, and may he reach many souls for the kingdom of God.

I don't think many people on these forums think that! I think God will use Jason in a mighty way---- however he choses to use him!

DJSfromCleveland -> RE: Jason Waldroup Leaving Greater Vision (4/8/2008 8:58:35 AM)

From my understanding he will be there through most of the summer.

HigherNote4U -> RE: Jason Waldroup Leaving Greater Vision (4/14/2008 12:33:03 AM)

Has anyone heard any news as to auditions or people interested in the position? I know that Jason said that he will be with the group assisting with training the right person, but I figured folks would be beating their doors down for a chance to audition.

Nope, I haven't heard anything more, but I bet LOTS of tenors are beating on that door!!!

Absolutely. I'm watching the clock so that I will be one of the first ones to call in at 9:00 am to order tix!

Are you going, Bobby?

sglead1982 -> RE: Jason Waldroup Leaving Greater Vision (6/9/2008 8:41:12 AM)

I loved listening to Jason sing. Greater Vision has been one of my favorite groups. I love popping in their CDs and singing with them over and over again.

I've got to go out to eat with them a handful ot times and shared some stories with Jason. He was a great part of that group.

However, Jacob Kitson is my brother-in-law and I am very excited to see how he will affect Greater Vision. Even though I loved Jason, and wouldn't have minded if their sound hadn't changed for 30 more years - I'm anxious to hear the new sound.

Jacob's range is like unto Jason's. However, his personality is far more lively and it will be very entertaining to see how Greater Vision's stage presence will transform over the next couple months.

Very good post sglead. With Jacob being your BIL, it was a pleasure to read the way you stated your post.

Called about tickets. You either go to the church to purchase tickets or mail a check to church for tickets. Already a line of people at church to purchase tickets. I thought you could order by phone but that is not the case.

Yes, I just found out. I took my check up to the post office. I guess we don't have much of a chance for an Artist Circle ticket.[:@] Just anywhere in the audience will be fine with me!

Smokymtnsanta -> RE: Jason Waldroup Leaving Greater Vision (6/9/2008 9:16:13 AM)

I am contiplating whether to drive over there to the church or just take a chance with the mail.

Did not take me long to talk myself out of driving over there. Just use the mail and hope for the best.

clout -> RE: Jason Waldroup Leaving Greater Vision (6/12/2008 3:41:37 PM)
