Right. And you know, he may be one of those people who really can't get his GED. BUT he is smart! Almost genius in mechanical areas! It's crazy and makes me wish for the old, old days when boys like him probably only went to school until 6th grade or so, and then learned a trade that supported them well. Ya know, back before pieces of paper mattered.[8|]

I hope if he had to look for a job now, an employer would look at his solid job history and life experience and not care so much that he doesn't have the stupid piece of paper.

LOL, you are funny. I am surprised they have a minimum age. I have known at least one 12 yo who took classes at the community college.

Does anyone know how to get a sparkplug out of a truck engine AFTER the nut thing on it has been totally stripped???? BTW, the thing that cost $20 and is called Gatorgrip didn't work!

These aren't classes for credit, they're just community interest. You don't enroll as a student in the college to take them. Before the boys were born, I took cake decorating. When they've advertised in the past, there was a minimum age listed. I can't remember if it was 16 or 18. The ad this time didn't list an age, so maybe they've stopped that now.

This is the first year Brandon is old enough for many of the community ed classes that he'd like to take, however, if he gets this job, he won't be able to.

hubby says needle nose vice grips...and rack your knuckles getting it out. He said the gatorgrip thing isn't really as good as they claim to be, just plain old vice grips will work better.

For a kid who is doing as well as Brandon is in Algebra, you would think he could handle the rather simple spreadsheet I made him to record his scores in...but no[8|]

My mom emailed saying, 'Coming home early, can you pick me up at 4:55?' It took me fifteen minutes-and we were completely ready to walk out the door-before I realized she could not possibly have meant today, but she really should tell me what day she is coming home, lol, if she wants to see me at the airport!

Sarah- the tater cutting/peeling thing is the precise reason I bought it. We don't do a lot with apples round here that require more than washing and the application of teeth. but making scalloped taters and mashed taters is a chore that has been given over to a box these last 10 years so being able to sit and watch TV while I turn a handle to cut and peel my taters is awesome.

His- My day has been a total loss.

I left home at 2pm to have Triss and Jeromy at the dentist 15 min prior to appts and found that they were running 30 min late. [&o]

I left the dentist at 4:45pm for a yearbook adviser meeting that I did not want to go to. I got to sit through 2 hours of one of our "board" advisers saying out one side of her mouth "The kids can do this with out our micro managing them" and "It needs to be done this way" out the other side of her mouth *throws hands up* EXCUSE ME.... did you just say let them do it but only if they do it a certain way???

There were the three of us that are up to our necks in this and the two board members. I sat exchanging "This so is NOT happening next year" looks with another mom at the table. Mrs. C doesn't realize she just lost 2/3 of her yearbook advisory staff.

Thing is when I said that the kids doing 100% of the book was not feasible because they AGE OUT she came back with how she was having to re-train folks to do OUR jobs every year so she knew about how hard that was and she just did not understand why... I wanted to say DUH! if it isn't the mechanics of putting the book together (it isn't) or the staff(they are great kids that wanna be told to GO FOR IT!) PERHAPS IT IS YOU!

I kept my mouth shut.

last years yearbook adviser actually quit the entire support group. She has ZERO contact with the board and is not participating in ANY activities to include history club which is NOT a sponsored activity at all.

*sigh*

I already had a "low grade" migraine that has NOT gone away since LAST weekend. I sat in the dentist office unconsciously grinding my teeth and then spent the next 2 hours clenching my jaw to keep from telling Mrs. C what a total --- she was...

I finally said that my husband had called 3 times (he had) & I was leaving. I still needed to go to wal-mart to drop off the script for the Valium for my dentist appt on thursday. I told the two kids I had with me that I was just gonna drop it off and pick it up tomorrow. They could come in to go to the bathroom if they wanted to. Both got out. The phone rang- trill asking if we were on our way yet cause dad was not home yet- If you can add folks you will realize it is now 7pm. I get out of the car and ask what she means dad's not home- she begins to explain as Triss very calmly says "mom- I need your help please..." *Sits down and cries* She had slammed her finger in the car door... it was locked.

By the time I got her inside walmart and to the subway to get a cup of ice she was paper white and dizzy and nauseated. Jerry had called and Trill had called back and I was ready to froth at the mouth.

Needless to say We made a trip to the ER. Jerry drove home and got the note book with all the kids info in it and met us there then sent me and Jeromy home. Now there is a trooper. he had a tooth pulled- gaping hole in his mouth. he had only had 3 or 4 waffle fries from chik fil a to eat all afternoon. NO pain meds save the injections. No complaints.

So I am home(it was nearly 9pm before I got here) Jerry and Triss are on their way because her shock like symptoms have abated and she can now feel her fingertip. She was scared for a bit because it was numb- she could not feel it at all. They are going by Walmart to get a finger splint and some med tape.

Some days screaming and pulling your hair out is simply not enough.

Does your community college have a GED prep class? I know ours does, it's pretty cheap(although your probably like us and would qualify for a Pell grant to totally cover tuition+books) and isn't a ton of time. It would be a big help in the employment world.

Oh Ez! I thought that I had a bad day... poor Tissy! Poor mommy![:(] I pray that her finger heals quickly and can return to it's home on the dulcimer.

The blood has returned to my urine right after I left the pre-op appointment. I went to my dr, and she was so nice. I told her that I was worried that I may be having kidney stone troubles after having been dehydrated this last weekend. She was going to send me right over to get a sono to take a look, but I think she felt sorry for me and told me it could be done tomorrow. I am not sure if that is going to happen, but I am seeing the dr tomorrow. She also gave me a shot... a antibiotic.

About the shot... I have an irrational fear of shots. I had gotten much better and was doing quite well with them, but the needle biopsy has totally undone years of progress. I was fine when they told me I was getting a shot. I was fine as it was being prepared. I was fine as it sat on the counter. then the dr picked up and I started get nervous. When she told me where it needed to go, I became unglued. I couldn't sit still. I kept hopping up, and making myself sit back down. I began crying and telling her that I couldn't do it. She finally was able to give it to me and bawled a floodgate of tears and couldn't stop. I hope that most of it was not feeling good, and being all nerves. I don't want to go through this everytime I need to get a shot.[:(]

I couldn't wait to get back to Russ and cried for about 20 minutes on the wa to get him.


I wanted to chat, but couldn't get on with Russ' computer.

Lisa, I have a wonderful 95 year old grandmother. She has thyroid cancer, but she is too frail for surgery. She will live longer if she doesn't have the surgery. It really bothers her physically. When I hear of your problems, I am thankful for you that you can have the surgery and you are going to be okay. I wish my grandmother could have the surgery. I feel really bad for her. She had breast cancer about twenty years ago and had a breast removed. She's done really well until this. I'm sorry you're having to go through this, but am so glad you are going to be fine.

Ez, I'm sorry for your lousy day. Praying that fingers and mouth holes will heal quickly.

We went to Wal Mart after youth group and stimulated the economy. [:D] I think we overstimulated it just a bit. [&:]

Jesse is not feeling well again. He is all congested, although no fever this time. I'm not sure yet if he's caught a cold or if his allergies are just kicking in real bad. His poor nose is raw from blowing it, despite the Puffs. The worst part is that he got cereal straws today - I never get those because they're stupidly expensive, but they were on sale for $2 a box so I allowed him to have a treat - and he is so stuffed up that he can't taste them. That just hoovers. [sm=frown.gif]

Vet school with a homeschool diploma - I have it on good authority (one of our tox doc's hubby, who is a vet) that vet school is so incredibly competitive anymore that it is next to impossible to get in unless you are already working as a vet tech. Anyone interested in being a vet needs to first concentrate on getting a vet tech certification (usually through a community college) and working for awhile. Once you finish the vet tech program you have essentially proven that you can handle college level work and no one will really care where your high school diploma came from. You would then work on getting a bachelor's, making sure that you've contacted the vet school you are interested in attending so that you know what classes you should be taking.

I usually encourage anyone who's interested in nursing school to get a 2 year degree at a community college and then finish up a bachelor's after you have your RN. There are many advantages to doing this, and community colleges are usually less picky about where your HS diploma came from.

Awww, Cynthia. It is so hard when people get to the point where surgery itself is dangerous. I am thankful that not only can I have the surgery, but I may have a cancer that is completely removable. I am really fighting to be able to have the surgery tomorrow, and am worried that my other health problems will keep me from having it tomorrow. I don't want to have to wait longer for the surgery. I so want to get it over with. All these other health stuff popping up in the week before my surgery is very frustrating. I think that if they came another time, it would have been ok too because I would feel like I had a deadline.

Yes, we have a free one he has gone to, and I have worked with him several times also (by that, I mean for a couple months each time). It is now known that Brian's mother drank and did drugs while she was pregnant with him. I believe that he will not be able to pass the GED unless God heals those connections in his brain that didn't form correctly. I haven't told him that, but I believe that is the case.

I don't really care about the piece of paper, but know that the rest of the world does, if he has to look for another job someday. However, he does work in an industry that book knowledge is just not really useful, and he does have a solid job history now that he didn't have when looking for this last job.

My dd has the same problem, so I totally empathize and will add this extra personal glitch to all my prayers for you. You are very much on my heart and I am not neglecting to remind the Lord of His promises to care for His little lambs and asking Him to make every single one evident in your life this week.

Ezri, I feel your pain. It is why many of us eventually forgo support groups altogether. Since you are such an important part of your group and your group is important to your family, I am praying that it will all be resolved amicably, and that your yearbook will be a blessing to all involved this year.

Well, I am going incommunicado for the next ten days. We are taking our annual vacation. Angelica is going with us, but Michael can't because he has SATs on Saturday and work.

But I have the perfect house-sitter coming over! If anyone remembers, mime ministry was an important part of my daughter's spiritual growth. Her mime instructor is back in town and recently married, and he and his new bride are house-sitting for us while we are gone.

I am thrilled! What a wonderful opportunity for godly discipleship of Micheal while we are gone! As my kids say, "Woot!"

So, since I'm packing and all, I won't be on much before I leave the 2nd. I'll be back the 11th.

Aww, praying for Jesse too. I have so been there. A little Vaseline around the nostrils might help, but since mom is a nurse, I am sure that you are on top of "the care and comfort of allergy sufferers".
