Yeah, I know. It was the last two dollars I had too! Yet, even as my stomach grumbled from hunger later that evening, I felt full of His love. I know that one little act probably changed her life, and because I listened to God about it, He opened the door.

I am a Restaurant Manager for McD, and it drives me nuts. Over the last 7 years it has gotten worse. I just think it's inconsiderate to the other people in line. MOST people in a drive thru are in a hurry there for I look at drive thru being EXPRESS. I have and do often ask people to get off of their cell phones while ordering so we can expedite the process.

It is amazing how one simple act can lead to another. I was working again tonight, and I was presented with the same scenario only this time, I didn't get that chance to witness to her. She insisted that she owed me, but I told her not to worry about it. She looked at me like I had gone crazy! I don't know why this is happening, but maybe, God is trying to tell me something..........

That is so true! It is amazing the avenues he will open if we just open up our hearts to Him and follow His direction.
It feels so good to help people like that. I didn't realize how good it could feel until it happened to me!~

I will admit I'm one who usually carries a cell phone, but I'm also usually chaffeuring 4 kids to various places, or they are with dh who claims he might need to reach me 'immediately'.

I don't talk on my phone while in the drive-though lane ... if it rings, I'll glance at the call display, quickly answer and say "I'll call ya right back" and hang up. This way my phone doesn't KEEP ringing (in case they think they misdialled), and they know I'm doing something else, and they will get my attention when I am able.

This Is kind of off-topic, but as part of my managerial training, I got to run lunch shift today! (kind of) lol NOt nearly as busy as it was supposed to be, but there is always tomorrow.

That is Great! Just remember to treat your crew members with respect, and they will do a good job for you. It is so important that you treat those who work for you the same way that you would want to be treated!

I appreciate the fact that you respect those who are serving you! That means so much. I know how important it is to have your cell phone with you at all times. I do. I just want others to think about being respectful when they are placing and recieving their orders. Thanks for your thoughtfulness and consideration.

Honestly, I think it's sorta rude, given that supposedly the person at the drive-thru is trying to give customer satisfaction. But, it's tough to elimate... it's inevitable that people will be on their phones.

This is true. You know, I had a lady come through and put me on hold while she made a telephone call. After listening to her five minute conversation (she was yelling at someone), she decided that she didn't want anything! Pardon me, but don't you think that is a little rude?

It's not just customers either. A few weeks ago, we had a waitress in a family owned Mexican food restaurant who seated us, took our orders, brought our food, gave us drink refills, then took our money and she was on the phone the ENTIRE time. Needless to say, we won't be going back there.

I have also been waited on in smaller stores(bookstores, card shops, etc) by employees who won't put the phone down long enough to show respect to the people patronizing their store.

We have a rule in our store that forbids that kind of behavior. That is rude and disrespectful to the people you are waiting on! You can't expect customer to respect you if you don't respect them.

My problem isn't the customers, it is MOSTLY the other crew people and the "so called" night managers. They(the night managers aren't much older than the teens and I am WAY older than they are. If it isn't it should be the policy of ALL places that employees should NOT use their cell phone while at work. I as a mom carry mine with me (DD and younger DS are home for a couple hours before DH gets home) so in case of an Emergency the can call me, but they(kids) have work # too. So I don't ever use my phone(at least at work), but these teens are ALWAYS on their phones .

Isn't it ironic how we as older employees get swept under the bus so to speak. When a new teenager comesin, you get less hours, even if you havebeen there for a long time. I am fortunate enough to have managers who are my age, Thank you Jesus!

I worked at McDonald's for 4 years. Started at age 14, worked as crew for one year, shift leader for the next year and a half, and another year and a half as a Manager. Needless to say, I experienced similar behavior from customers from time to time. Honestly, I was more frustrated with the lack of respect from crew, especially when I was a manager. I think because I was so young it made my job 10 times harder as a manager.

The owner of the restaurant I worked at is a great Christian man. As a matter of fact, he was my 4th grade Sunday School teacher, and I promised him that I'd work for him one day when I was in that class, I guess that's why I ended up there. :)

For the other young guy in here that is finishing up management training, here are a few things that you're going to experience. The younger crew members that you've been friends with at work will automatically think that you're not going enforce rules with them, because you're friends. You better not treat them any differently than anyone else, but in most cases it will come at the cost of their friendship and respect for a while. Once they mature a little bit, they should respect you for treating them fairly. Secondly, the younger crew people (once again) typically try to push your buttons and set you off. I'm really just warning you because that happened to me, and I blew my top off a once or twice. Again, this may be slightly different for you, since you are 19 and I was 17 at the time. Hopefully the transition isn't as extreme for you as it was for me.

OH! I meant to add something to my original post...

I think the reason I wasn't bothered by customers who didn't respect employees is that I expected that kind of behavior from them. Now I see that those kind of people are in every field of work. You will be disrespected, or see fellow co-workers disrespected in almost every job. Every job I've ever had has had something to do with customer service in one way or another, so I'm used to dealing with customers who disrespect and the ones who are flat out irate.

I always try to show those in authority some respect. The team leader on our shift is 14 years younger than me, but I respect her because she has worked hard to get where she is, and she has been at this store longer than I have. Respect is a hard thing to earn, but as long as you treat everyone the same, with respect and dignity, regaurdless of heir age, you will most likely find a crew willing to work hard for you.
I went t another restraunt for breakfast yesterday with my husband. The manager was courteous to us, but you could hear her yelling at her crew because of drive-thru time. I understand that this manager was frustrated, but to yell in front of the customers was a little uncalled for. If you feel the need to yell at someone, ask for a team member to take over for a secound so you can re-focus. That was not only embarassing for the crew, it was embarassing for the customer to hear something that should have been delt with in a more professional manner. Anyone else have a chance to witness anything like this?

LOLOL!!! I'm sorry but I can't help but laugh. I work for a fairly large government facility and sometimes have to deal with the public. There have been times when I have received phone calls only to hear, "Can you hang on a sec? Yes, I'd like a number 2 with pickles, and a number 3 no onion..."

I hate when those calls get disconnected.

I worked at a fast food joint about three years ago. I never really had much trouble with cell phones or anything like that. I also rarely worked drive-thru, luckily since I could barely understand the people through our headphones. Normally I worked front counter. The oddest encounter was one of the few times I was working drive-thru and this guy pulls up to the window, realizes he doesn't have his wallet at all (thus no drivers license either), gets frustrated with himself, tells me he'll be back shortly, returns like 15 minutes later with wis wallet, pays and receives the now cold food. The way the whole thing happened it was just odd.

Because by the time he realized he didn't have his wallet we already had his order bagged. Why should the restuarant have to throw away the entire order AND make a new one just because he forgot his wallet? It was his mistake not ours. Our manager wasn't about to throw food away just because the customer messed up and forced us to delay delivery of his meal.

Oh my, the fast food places where I worked the managers would have just gone under "manager meal" and given it to an employ or something like that, then served the gentleman a fresh meal when/if he returned.
