You have a very clever daughter Roberta! Donna, I understand being bothered by Noah's flourishing at the school. Remember that you'd feel even worse if he wasn't doing well there. Chalk his doing well up to doing things right with him at home. I think it's pretty common for kids to act "better" for others. How was the play Debilyn? Great, I'm sure! I hope you can get some good answers Kylie; not a good surprise. Danas_mom, that would get on my last nerve, the nitpicking that is. My oldest had a fifth grade teacher that I did not like or respect at all. It was hard because E still needed to go to school and do the right thing each day. Thankfully haven't been many teachers like that. I would be tempted to hand out prizes at my own discretion but I realize that's not a good solution either. Hi Kath! Garsy, did you get lots of scrapbooking done? It sounds like Aryn made an informed decision, that's good! MBee, how did the dentist appt go? How was the prom stuff Penpen? Hey all! No Dee I didn't get a lot done BUT I did get back to my scrapping table at least a little bit! And it felt GOOD! As for Aryn, We've talked about it at length today and the decision is final. No self-contained gifted program next year, but a willingness to be retested next spring to enter the program at the middle school level (6th grade). Danas_mom, as you know we've been dealing with Ethan having issues at school too. I finally walked in one day and after hearing several bad reports about him I sat down and exclaimed "Seriously, would it hurt someone to notice something good and tell me about that?" I simply could not deal with it anymore. Since then, when I've asked about his behavior I make a point is asking his teachers (and bus driver) what he has done GOOD that week. I ask them to LOOK for the good, because I'm so tired of always hearing about what he's doing wrong. I want to know if he's having problems in class, but I would LOVE to hear the good as well, because I KNOW he's trying. For the last 2 weeks - I've gotten mostly very good reports! It has been a TRUE blessing! In fact, last Thursday I was talking to his classroom teacher and she told me that she had been having just a horrible week with the kids in her room. I thought for sure she was going to tell me that Ethan was part of that crowd - but no! NO! Instead she told me that he was one of the few that was having a GREAT week, following all directions, and one of only 7 kids out of a class of 21 (or 22) that actually did exactly as he was told in Science the day before! I was so thankful for the GOOD report that I practically cried! I told her that she had just made my day! Then in Art class (where he was when his teacher and I spoke) I learned later that he was one of 5 that was able to repeat the directions back to the teacher when she asked them what the instructions were!!! He's coming around!!!! And all it has took was the reward of being able to choose what we eat for supper each Friday night! He's only missed one in the past 3 weeks - and that was because he had forgotten to bring his recorder to music class both class periods that week. Hopefully things will come around for Nathan as well. Those nitpicky things are just over the top. As for the bus issues. I honestly don't think Ethan will EVER be able to please our bus driver. She can't seem to take a joke at all and she just seems grumpy all the time. I think I'm going to have Ethan start getting on the bus with a great big smile and saying to her - "Good morning Mrs. C! Only ___ many days of school left!" and try to get her to smile just once in a while! Don't let me forget to call to see if I can get the boys a ride to scouts on Monday night! Blessings, Garsy

Kath, an E is 'Demonstrates very limited knowledge, understanding and application of course content.' J was getting C's in English last year which means he was at year level standard. Now either his teacher last year was being overly kind or something isn't quite right about this current mark. Kylie[sm=silly.gif]

I really understand about the nit-picky stuff driving you up the wall. They decided that my 5 year old needs to repeat kindergarten next year so they just gave up on him. They have weekly tests to see how they are doing since I agreed at parent teacher conference at the end of January that it would probably be a good idea for him to repeat he hasn't had a test once. On his report card in the comment section it is always continue working with Daniel but we are glad you agree to let him repeat. Of course no mention of the fact that he can read. Which I think deserves some attention. They sent home a booklet that said read with/to Daniel so I sat him down to read it and he started reading it to me. I was such a proud Momma. My 9 year old has a math teacher that they have clashed since the first day of school. They have a discipline thing that requires moving your fish from green which is good to yellow which is a warning that they are on the way to a bad day and then red for really bad day and one more time they get in trouble that day is a paddling. She got yellow for coloring on her pants and then red for working ahead in math. I agree can't they ever tell us one good thing that the kids do. Cause I agree I am the first to admit they can be stinkers but I also know they can do great things. Personally I felt the yellow for coloring her pants was silly that is between me and her she was disrupting the class even the teacher said that she just felt it was wrong. We went to the Zoo today and had an absolute blast! I'm so glad we have a family pass! A lot of the animals weren't out yet, because the temps are cooperating at night but the ones that were out were very active! The kids had a great time! But before the Zoo we went to church for the first time in weeks, due to high gas prices we haven't been able to afford going that distance more then once a weekend in the van and with Ty in the school play I was driving the van ALOT! Hopefully we'll be able to continue! But it was a sad day in our church as well. The youth pastor with tears in his eyes told the congregation that his wife, after nearly 6 months of marital counseling has left him and is asking for a divorce. She has taken the children, 2 boys, and moved back to England where they came from just a short year and a half ago, and from what we were told today has no plans on coming back to the states or wanting to reconcile. Ty is very close to his youth pastor so this hit him very hard. It was the first time in YEARS that he willingly reached out and held my arm during a church service. He had tears in his eyes too! So if you could please pray for our friend Stuart and his wife and their boys. I am making phone calls regarding a ride for the boys to scouts tomorrow, since I have to be at school in the morning and REALLY don't want to make the trip twice! Two first grade classes are culminating their unit on Japan. They are going to spend the entire day experiencing their lessons as they would be taught in Japan! They have to wear a "uniform" and are going to be learning lots of Japanese words and getting a chance to try different foods of Japan. I'm going in to help out with food prep and whatever they need me to do! It's going to be a lot of fun! The one teacher has a traditional kimonio and everything! I'm really excited about this! Hi Kylie, thanks for explaining an "E." Michelle, that would be discouraging if they don't seem to be working with your son. If he's reading already that's a great sign! Roberta, it sounds like you are one step ahead of your daughter. Very good! Garsy, that's cool that your daughter is studying Japan. Our neighbor lady across the street grew up in Japan during WW2. She has a very interesting story. She married a soldier and moved here. She lost much of her family in the war, including both parents. That left her to raise her younger siblings when she was quite young herself. My daughter had to write something from the viewpoint of a Japanese-American during WW2, and while T didn't live here at that time, her viewpoint would have been interesting. But she was in Japan at the time. The Pinewood derby was today. First my son won the race amongst the Webelos! Then he won again and was the overall winner for the whole pack (fastest car out of 55)!!!!! He was SO excited! This is his last year for the Pinewood Derby, so it was nice he got to finish that way. He got a trophy too, so that was fun. Dee

When I was growing up I knew a woman that when she was growing up her family harbored Jewish families trying to escape from Nazi Germany. I never realized what a treasure she truly was til it was to late. Sounds like you all had a great time at the pinewood derby too! My first two shots at a ride for the boys to scouts fell threw. I hope you find a ride Garsy. You'd love my neighbor! It's sad that the stories of the generation of my neighbor and the woman you mentioned won't be with us much longer. Well I didn't find a ride for the boys - but all my kids were very moody tonight anyway. I swear Aryn is going through some hormonal changes because she has become SO very emotional lately. She can cry at the drop of a hat one minute and be teasing her brother the next! I decided from the minute they walked through the door after school and started arguing, that scouts was OUT tonight. I'm thinking yesterday was very busy and emotional and then today with school and all - well kind of overwhelming and all. They were simply overtired. Aryn usually gets into bed by 8:30 and tonight she was in bed by 8PM. Ethan was there shortly there after, after a meltdown over the computer. Apparently someone had changed the picture on his main screen. [&:] But of course I couldn't figure out why he was in meltdown mode because of all the crying! Anyway - Wow! This morning at school was so much fun! In the Japan cafe' we served all sorts of fun Asian dishes for the kids to try! Most of the kids were brave and tried everything, some of them actually learned that they LIKE shrimp! The best part is that even though we set it all up, the kids cleaned up EVERYTHING! And of course I took lots of pictures! I'm staying home tomorrow - got to schedule some dental appointments for Brian and Mount Washmore needs some serious attention! I'm done with literacy packs for the rest of the school year, so my school volunteer schedule is lightening up a bit. I do have to go in and get all of that stuff ready for next fall. Last I heard our school may be getting two full day and one half day classroom for kindergarteners in the fall AND they are considering appling for a grant to hire a floating aide for that grade level! I am SO applying for it if it is offered!! Kindergarten enrollment is expected to hit a high next fall of nearly 100 kids! With that many kids they'll need all the extra help they can get! In fact, I'd take ANY aide position offered to me! Then back to school on Wednesday EARLY for Fine Arts day! This is one of the most fun days of the entire year at our school! Blessings, Garsy

The dental situation stinks. But, thanks for asking. At this point, I have seen a surgeon who wouldn't touch me without seeing a dentist first, so I visited a dentist and set up a plan. She and the surgeon talked and CHANGED the plan, and then had the receptionist call to set up an unplanned root canal for 1 hour later. I didn't go. It is partly the fear, but also I don't agree with the treatment plan and then pocketbook doesn't either. Now, if someone with a DR in front of their name wants to call and give a MEDICAL reason why this is a better course of action - I'm all ears. All year, I have been struggling with DeeDee's supplies in the desk at school - she needs more, she needs certain types. I learned YESTERDAY that the teachers are supposed to buy pencils, etc. I sent in 4 dozen for the class for the rest of the year. Simply because I am tired of DeeDee passing them out one at a time to classmates who are without. I don't mind helping some of them, but not if it meant going without something for her. Her teacher passes out one pencil a quarter and you need to turn in your old one to get it. [8\|] DeeDee was miffed that the pencils went into the can, rather than to her classmates and so am I but what do you do? And, she also told me that 'all the other girls' in her class are on diets. I tattled to the nurse. DeeDee said one certain girl weighs 65 pounds and doesn't eat lunch. "Mom, she must only eat two good meals a day." I know that they put themselves on the bus, so I'm guessing one meal, the one her folks watch.

Thanks Catherine! Now if I could only justify driving 18 miles one way to the nearest Baskin Robbins tomorrow. Today the kids brought home their plants they are to take care of all summer long and bring back in the Fall to the Flower and Garden show. For a change we got three completely different plants! Now to keep them alive all summer! Ethan was supposed to bring home a tree today too, given to the kids through our local Arbor Day foundation, but there must have been a delay in getting them to us because they didn't come home yet. Well I'm off to supervise homework and get supper going! Blessings, Garsy

We don't have either of those around here either, Garsy. I don't think even within an hour. That's okay though...I have ice cream in my freezer.[:D] My throat hurts, so I may make that my dinner tonight.[:D] Had my ultrasound this afternoon...baby is great. I always love seeing the little one in there wiggling around. This one didn't like the ultrasound much and kept covering his/her little eyes. Too cute! Noah got out of school early to go with us, and he'll bring the pictures tomorrow for show and tell.

Hi everyone Donna so glad the ultrasound went well. OK I have a rant. Why do they schedule things during school hours? My daughter has had stuff that go on during school with only a letter sent home the night before. Or no letter just information from the kids I am sorry I love my kids a bunch but they don't always get the messages correct. My son is having a mothers day tea at his class which is OK I guess but they are having a dress code. It says business casual Sunday attire. Um I wear jeans to church [:D] But they don't give you enough time to work things out to attend these things. My hubby works 12-14 hours a day and not making him walk home from work so i can have a ride. To get a ride from my parents cost me anywhere from 10-20 dollars and that is a lot. OK that is over sorry everyone. Hope everyone has a great day

That STINKS Michelle. I hate the assumptions. Either folks assume you can drop everything and meet their schedule, or that you can't possibly be there, so why bother telling you. For most folks, the truth probably lies in the middle. The dentist called on Monday and said they wanted to see me at 1pm that day. They called at 11:30. She said that other folks can do it if they get called. I said they like me working... I am scheduled for the surgical extration of 4 teeth under sedative for May 21st. I will still have an impacted wisdom tooth but it doesn't hurt and they aren't working up there so I want that corner 'left alone.' Hmm, we will see who is more stubborn...
