I never heard of that. But I did make him use my facial scrub under his arms. It is made with ground walnut and almond shell POWDER, not chunks and has little pieces of the nuts themselves in it so it isn't painful. But it did seem to take away all of the old deoderant he had built up and has been fine. I told him to do it every other day and he has. But before I did make him do that, I tried it to make sure it didn't hurt. It actually felt good.

I can't remember where I saw the post about your daughters pic, but I see it clear as day. I know how expensive that can be. Kali did joined a competetive pom team, but I decided that I am going to be doing the hair myself. I had it done a couple of times and watched so now I can copy that.

It is amazing what they do with little rubberbands, clips and braids. I learned alot from the guy that does our hair. But he is very good at showing me what to do and how to do it. He even told me what kind of curling irons, flat irons, and brushes to buy.

I wish I could do hair but I can't even figure out how to do a french braid[8|]
I have a friend who can do all that stuff with rubberbands and such, she did Linz's hair for homecoming. I'll definitely ask her next year to do Linz's hair.

Larry and Linz are the same way too. I don't even like him to eat dinner with us because he is constantly on her case. She isn't even allowed to talk to Mike when Larry eats with us. never mind Mike is the one that causes the problem, because she reacts noisily he gets on her case. She really thinks he doesn't love her. [&o] I've talked and talked to him but he just doesn't get it. He is going to drive her away.

I told him that it would give him more time to do things with the kids and he said that I'd never come home from work...[8D] He may be right. I tend to check on them, and then do 'one more thing' and then another.

It was hard at first, but once I knew how to get it up, the curls were the easy part. Especially since there is this stuff that is called hotsets. You spray the section you are about to curl and it helps hold the curl.

No suggestions MBee, but I have a hubby that would have a better relationship with at least some of his kids if he wouldn't be so hardnosed about some things, and would pick his battles more carefully. I don't know how to get him to see that though.

Linz's pic now shows up perfectly. I wish I was good with girly hair.

N had his spring music program tonight. It's not his thing, but they all did a good job. They go to the theater tomorrow.

Hi ladies,

I posted yesterday about Jessica and her english teacher. Well dh went today and talked with her and the principal, and I think it went well. We will have to be on top of Jessica to get work done, but the principal said Jessica could come and just talk about the class with her anytime. We have a plan to help J, catch up and J feels better about it all.

So there's a light at the end of the tunnel

We are having our CRCT tests this week and I have some stressed crabby kids. I don't know what to do to make it better for them.[&o]

Kim, glad things look better for Jessica.

Michelle, I pray your kids have a stress-free day. Are these the type of tests where they are only graded on what they answer? (They have 50 questions, but only answer 30 - the other 20 aren't counted against them?) If so, just encourage them to take their time and do their best. If not, remind them of what our family calls the "three good test rules" - (1)answer those you know you know, (2)answer the ones you can figure out by knowing what you don't know, (3) give the best answer you can for those you don't know.

These tests are graded if its 50 questions they answer 30 they have 20 wrong right at the start. Its the test that determines if they can go to the next grade. I told them to do their best that is all anyone can ask of them.

Does in class work, homework, that sort of thing count at all? That just seems wrong to me. Do they take into account that some kids are simply poor test takers? I see the need for testing - but it should not be the sole determining factor when it comes to promoting a child or holding them back a year.

Wow, I had test anxiety and I see alot of that in my son. He would so totally still be in kindergarten if a test was what determined if he could pass or not.

Today was a crazy day for me. I think it was the weather. I got nothing done but laundry and running around. I haven't even taken time to sit down and eat a meal, but my kids ate. And yet here I am on this computer rather than eating. I just need to wind down.

Jake totally failed two tests right at the end of the semester so rather than being on the high honor roll, we are not even sure if he made it at all. That is not good.

Kali has been misbehaving in library class and I don't know what to say or do because I am not there. The library teacher gives the report to the teacher who tells us if there were problems or not, but nothing specific.

Yesterday when I went to pick Kay up from preschool, she and like 7 other kids were sitting up against the wall in the gym. They were ALL on timeouts. When I asked her why she was sitting, I got an "I don't know" then she told me that one of the kids punched her, so I asked her why she had to sit then, and I got another "I don't know" then she started to talk and it seems as if she did her share of fighting and whatever else it was. And she is only three. She referred to the child she said punched her as a dork.

You can tell the school year is starting to come to an end because they are all being sassy.

I dislike those non-specific behavior reports. I want to know if there's a problem, but it's much better if I have enough info to actually go through some ideas about how things could have been handled differently.

Michelle, I hope your kids are doing better this evening. Are the tests time-limited? I hate how such a big deal is being made about the testing now. None of my kids have too much test anxiety, but they could just develop some if the test was determining them going on to the next grade.

They are timed but not sure how long they have for each section.
Guess I should have been more specific I think in the break down these tests count for like 49% of the final grade. So they say that its not one determining factor but its a huge one.

They were doing a little better last night but now this morning were touchy touchy again. At least we are only testing until next Monday. [:D]

I hope your kids start feeling better as they progress through the tests Michelle.

Yesterday was interesting. My oldest had a field trip to a prison yesterday, about 1.5 hours east of us. After school she had a dermatologist appt about 30 minutes west of here. I felt a little weird about that, especially when she told me yesterday morning they weren't getting home till 3. Earlier she'd said 2:30. But I figured it'd be fine. About 2:50 I was thinking about picking her up from school in a bit when the phone rang. Their bus broke down and they were 15 minutes east of us. Thankfully I was inside from hanging laundry (I'd come in to check the time). I put the 4yo in the van and was ready to go. Hubby pulled up so I told him what was up, took R out of the van since he was home, and left. We did make it OK.

The appt was with her dermatologist. We saw a physicians assistant today for the first time, whom we both liked a ton more than the M.D. there. He took a lot of time to explain things, and had different ideas about what to prescribe.

E really enjoyed the prison visit. Well, she found it interesting. Their group asked so many questions of the prisoner panel they missed lunch. It was a women's prison and the 3 ladies they talked to all talked about the men in their life bringing them down and contributing in some way to their prison sentences. Now she thinks working in a prison would be interesting. She asked me if I was surprised about that and I said I wasn't.

Hey all!

What a busy day! I want to scrapbook but I'm not going to get a chance until tomorrow IF then.

Zoe had a great time at her young author's conference! The guest authors were Robert and Laura Sams - FANTASTIC nature photographers and movie filmers and authors! And Zoe did a great job reading her story in her small group! Her facilitator was awesome too! She gave all 9 kids in the room a NEW package of colored pencils and a couple little homemade books for them to write their ideas in.

Then I picked up Ty from play practice. Dh had brought him in earlier for it. Oh and Zoe and I had already gone out for lunch and stopped at WalMart.

But we came home to interesting news. A letter from the school district saying she has tested into the gifted program. They enclosed all her test scores and everything and apparently she had NOT passed the first round of Cognitive abilities tests, but did qualify for school review. That basically means that she had to go through a second round of testing of which she did very well in, for the most part. With those scores she qualified for the program no problem. So now we are going to sit down tonight and go over the test results and chat with her about what is going to be expected from her next year if she chooses to go. I have mixed feelings about this. But will write more about it later.

The inlaws are here and I have chili cooking!

Hi all
We have only one more day Monday of the silly testing. Ok I know its not silly but the stress the school puts on the kids over the test is silly.
So attitudes have calmed down alot.
I have two kids who backpacks broke [:o] I don't want to have to replace them this late in the game there is only like 4 weeks or less of school.
Duct tape anyone [:D] hehe

Back to school tomorrow! Noah is chomping at the bit, and it'll be nice to get back to our normal routine. He's been very needy this week for some unknown reason, even though we've done lots of things out of the house.

Nick has thrown up twice today. He goes back to his mom's tonight. I am so thankful for a husband who is willing to clean up puke, because I cannot without adding more to it.[&:]

Garsy, that's great about your daughter! If she was in the gifted program, would she be only with other kids who are also in the program or is it a pull-out kind of thing?

The gifted program is a self contained program. However, had she not qualified for the Language arts portion and just the math she would have done gifted math as a pull-out.

I was actually sort of hoping that she didn't pass and then I would have had her tested again next spring right before middle school. I can see benefits to a gifted program in middle school - especially our program, as they are offered so many opportunities. BUT I also don't want her to be overly stressed about school and lose her love of learning. She would be in the Gifted program at the elementary for one year prior to middle school if we decide to let her go this next fall. The school day at the gifted school is also shortened by 5-10 minutes at the beginning of the day and again at the end because of all the bussing the district has to do for kids who have to get back to their neighborhood schools for bussing home. Aryn would need to be bussed - The only other option would be for me to travel 13 1/2 miles up to her school at either end of the day to pick her up or drop her off. While I could do it somedays - I would NOT be able to do it daily. We still haven't had a chance to talk to Aryn about it too much. With the In-laws here we just can't sneak away for large amounts of time and we would prefer that the decision just be within our IMMEDIATE family and not have her influenced by grandparents or aunties.

Donna, I hope the rest of you stay well.

Saturday my daughter got to see five of the friends that she did cyberschool with in eighth grade. They met up in a town about 2 hours from here. I'm glad that all worked out for her.

While there she also bought a prom dress.

So tonight E and I were talking about her boyfriend that she's going to prom with and the conversation came around to the fact that she really didn't like him that much any more. Long story, I wasn't surprised. But she still wants to go to prom. I told her that prom and a dress couldn't stand in the way of her doing something that she should do. So then she decided that she wanted to go to prom with S, her friend from camp. He lives 1.5 hours away though, so I don't know. He'd need to understand he was going as "just a friend." The paperwork might be a problem. And I don't know if his coming would be a hardship on him/his family. Hmmmm.

Never a dull moment. Aaaaaack. I don't know S, but I like what I know of him fine, because of what I've heard of him from E, and because I know what kind of kids E's camp friends are.

When Brian took Nick home and told his mom he has been sick, she said, "Oh, you must have gotten what we all had Friday." Yet, she never thought to say something to Brian when he picked Nick up.[sm=sadquestion.gif] Sure, send a puke-germ infested kid to a house with all little kids and a pregnant momma.[&:] I really hope we don't get it. And I hope Sandy's family doesn't get it too...they were here Saturday night until after lunch Sunday.

At least Nick didn't go to church. Brian's mom took him and he came back right when Sandy and crew were leaving.

Prom is May 3. This morning E said she wasn't going, so I guess we'll return the dress. We can't return it to the store we bought it, but there is one closer, so hopefully that works. I think that is the right decision. Her camp friend has had a thing for her for a few years, so I think prom with him would be a bad idea. I'll be glad when we've gotten through the next couple of weeks.

Donna, that's frustrating. I hope you all stay well. That's so cool that you get to spend time with Sandy and her family!

Will she do something else fun instead of prom, maybe the next weekend or even that night have a dinner and movie night out with you? It sounds like she's making the right decision, but I'm sure it's disappointing, KWIM?
