soukz8696 -> April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 8:16:38 AM)

Happy April 1st. Hope everyone has a great day.
Hope noone minds that I started the chat thread for the month. [:D]

mb....sometimes I think we all think that about our kids. Especially when we feel they are being treated unfairly.

momma_bee -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 8:28:42 AM)

It really hit this weekend.

I had an awful time in school. A lot like she does. It is like she is telling MY STORIES, but changed the names. I left the immediate area. I panic when someone recognizes me from school. And, I try not to talk to anyone. I don't even try to recognized them.

I didn't want that for her. Not that she is different than the son, but she is.

But there is joy. I told Poppa that when the cigarette wrinkles and boozey skin catch up with them. I will still have my waist and I finally have b@@bs so I can go to the reunion and sit and talk to him. Call it a nice dinner in a lousy enviroment. :D

In the meanwhile, I ache for her.

Poppa talked to someone who said that we need to EMAIL everything. No phone calls.

soukz8696 -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 8:35:44 AM)

I feel so bad for her. My daughters are going through the same things at school that I did. Its hard to stand back and watch that. I find myself giving them the same advice that my mom gave me and its working just as well [;)].

debilyn -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 8:49:43 AM)

(((Mbee))) S had a problem with two friends last year. One girl was pretty much continually friends with my daughter, but the other girl was here today, gone tomorrow, back next week. Friend B couldn't let Friend A stay friends with my daughter without giving my daughter a cold shoulder, a hard time - even started a rumor about S. Friend A wouldn't stand up for S, but she still spoke with her when Friend B wasn't around. [:@] I told S to be friendly, but find some other girls she could hang out with on a regular basis. Now S has two good friends who all get along. Friend A has first and second period with S and they walk to class together, but she doesn't have to deal with the drama she had to last year. We prayed together about those girls A LOT. It wasn't easy to make new friends, but finding a new activity which brought her in contact with a different crowd helped.

Reports cards were pretty good this time. S got a C in pre-algebra, but we knew she was having problems with some of the concepts. Still, she was only 2 points from a B. Knowing that helped her feel a little better. B has all A's and B's this semester (finally back on track). He's trying hard to be sure he has all his work turned in on time this semester. He worked over the long weekend to get ahead of a project (Yay!). K is continuing to do well in first grade. They have reading tests this week. She was nervous till I reminded her that she reads well, and the teacher is someone she knows and trusts. She was fine when she got out of the car this morning.

Spring Break next week. Grandparents are taking them to the zoo one day during the break. A favorite aunt will be going with them. They are excited about that.

PrincessDonna -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 9:02:55 AM)

The thought of my kids going through the same things I did in school...[:o][:(] Kids can be very cruel, and they are often good at hiding it from adults.

On a totally different note...It's APRIL!!! Which means we're only 5 months from Baby Day! Pregnancy goes so fast with so many other people and things to care for! I go to the doctor again Thursday, for my 18 week appointment. 18 Weeks! Already?!

Noah and Nick both have break the week of the 14th. We'll have Nick two extra days. I hope they can get along and not make it miserable for everyone. I'm thinking at least one of those days, we'll go to the zoo. Brian's stepdad and new sMIL bought us a membership for the kids' birthdays.[:D]

momma_bee -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 9:12:00 AM)

I'm sure you've checked, but check into reciprocal agreements with the zoos. If I purchase a membership to the Pittsburgh Aviary, I can get into a couple hundred zoos at a free / reduced cost.

I'm just saying that if you have a free destination, a day trip may be do-able and an added bonus with the gift of the local zoo.

Local zoo? High school, right?

stampinlady -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 9:23:24 AM)

I all. I'm sorry some of you are having struggles. I know kids can be cruel and wouldn't want my kids to go through some things I went through. I think our schools do a much better job dealing with bullying and stuff like that than they did years ago. Both kids are doing well and I'm very pleased with their all around work. I think ds could be challenged a little more, but I'm just glad he's happy this year. We had spring break last week and I spent most of it driving them around. I love being able to stay home and take care of them. I thank God everday. Can't believe it's time to register for next year already!!! Dd did well on her freshman entrance test and got into all the classes she wanted. I can't believe she's old enough for high school.

Hope everyone is doing well and have a great day.

PrincessDonna -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 9:25:16 AM)

Yup, we've used it before at the Memphis zoo when visiting Brian's family in MS. We did have to pay half price because the zoo there is at a higher level than our zoo is. But still, I think we saved $40 or so, which was a great deal!

Are you trying to convince me to come down there to visit you, MB?[;)] It covers these zoos in PA:

quote:

PENNSYLVANIA
Erie Zoological Society
National Aviary, Pittsburgh
Philadelphia Zoo
Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium

Hmmm...I think Maggie is in or near Pittsburgh too... ROAD TRIP!

momma_bee -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 9:28:58 AM)

If you are going to meet Maggie - I'll be there too.

I'd love to go to the Aviary and can get you there - no problem. I drove past there when I took that class.

Same way with the PGH Zoo - I can nail down construction issues in an heartbeat.

I wonder if Erie Zoological is the Erie Zoo (i'd have to look) Erie Zoo is a nice, little zoo. A good 'little kid' zoo because it isn't as big and overwhelming.

PrincessDonna -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 9:34:22 AM)

Might have to do that this summer. I'll be heavily into waddle mode by then though.

momma_bee -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 9:48:30 AM)

Last week in June is no good.

So is the weekend of the air show in Genoseo because we will be in NY then.

ETA Poppa's smart remark

Waddle Mode - she'll fit in with the penguins...

PrincessDonna -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 10:42:21 AM)

[8D]

Maybe sometime in July. I'll have to figure out Nick's visitation schedule before we compare dates. I doubt his mother will let us take him out of state...she's so ornery right now.[:@] So we'll have to plan it when we don't have Nick.[&o]

DenimDiva -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 12:02:40 PM)

Good morning all!

Liz has Algebra today. She was assigned 9 pages of homework over break that she placed in her suitcase. The airline lost her suitcase, so now she doesn't have it. This is the teacher who is very mean anyway. I hope she doesn't come down on Liz. This isn't her fault.

csl7037 -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 12:09:07 PM)

Hi everyone. I'm new but not, just been gone a while from the boards. I wanted to jump into the new month's chat because once it gets going it's kinda hard to catch up at the end.

My dd has the "girl drama" stuff in spades! Her 2nd grade teacher (last year) says the class behind hers is not like that at all. But it's bad with this 3rd grade group. She has one friend who we've never had tears over, I think. I've decided I don't drop her off anywhere anymore for parties or play dates except with that one friend and maybe one or two from church. I don't remember my friends or classmates being like that. There might've been a little of it but not like what the girls in her class (dd included, I'm afraid) do to each other. I'm hoping they outgrow it but there are a couple of ring-leaders (the ones who are the worst) that I think might learn it from their mothers.

DenimDiva -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 12:17:25 PM)

Liz has a new crush.

He texted her in church Sunday and told her to text him when she got done. She attempted to text him before church was over, but he told her that he wouldn't respond until at least 12 noon so that she'd be out of church. Too cool.

It turns out that he goes to church too, but he goes to an 8 am service, so he was done with services when he texted her.

He told her that texting during church was the same as texting during school- completely wrong.

Anyway, he's gotten her back into P.O.D., Skillet and other Christian groups that she used to love.

soukz8696 -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 1:00:18 PM)

We are on Spring Break here for the week. Its seems tho my kiddos didn't receive the memo that you can sleep in during Spring Break. [:D]

garsyt -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 1:05:32 PM)

Good new crush for Liz![:D]

Day 2 of spring break!

Brian and Ty went out this morning and found Ty his costume for the play. Thankfully all of it came to just $13 and it is all stuff that he can use again once the play is over!

Me thinks tho that we are going to have an electronics free few hours this afternoon so we can get some other projects done around the house. Can't seem to get much done with the computers and video games on.

I'm doing a spring cleaning of our walk in closet today so I have to get back to work on that!

Blessings,

Garsy

debilyn -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 2:06:04 PM)

Good luck on the cleaning, garsy. We don't seem to get much done when tv or games are on in our house, either.

MrsTracy72 -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 2:34:56 PM)

Just checking in to say HI!!!

DenimDiva -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/1/2008 2:49:18 PM)

Hi Tracy!

McGuinessMagee -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/2/2008 7:23:52 AM)

We had one of those 'I forgot I was given an assignment four weeks ago and it's due tomorrow' nights with J last night. He sat up until an hour after his usual bedtime and then was up again at 5am. Apparently he did get it finished in time to hand it in this afternoon.[8|]

X had her mini-fete on today. The money which is made from that goes toward the Year 7 excursion. All money is split evenly over the students who are going on the excursion to lower the final cost.

I want to go too!! I have 't been since my 6th grade field trip almost 37 years ago. My grandmother took us a few years before that.

McGuinessMagee -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/3/2008 7:16:48 AM)

Well, X's excursion is now going to cost us $50 less than it was two days ago. They made enough from the mini-fete to put $50 toward each students' costs for the trip.

The next fund-raiser is selling bulbs. I don't always get involved in the school fund-raisers (I don't believe that selling chocolates on the one hand and then turning around and teaching children they should be eating healthier is quite giving the right message) but I can't see anything wrong with selling bulbs to people, to me that's an item which is positive all around - raises money toward the excursion and give people a chance to pretty up their gardens a little for Spring.

In this case, half the money made from the sale of the bulbs goes toward paying for the bulbs and the other half goes directly toward paying for the student who sells them's excursion costs. If X does really well then we may not have to pay very much at all.

DenimDiva -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/3/2008 11:54:03 AM)

I wish that school fund raisers were done that way here.

Kath -> RE: April PPS Chat Thread (4/3/2008 2:27:44 PM)

I forgot to sub to this thread even though I linked to it in the March thread. [sm=aside.gif] Thanks for starting it Michelle [sm=smile.gif]

I agree with that. You need to have a trail.

I've never been to any of my reunions. I did not enjoy high school.

Report cards: Linz is doing very well too, all As and Bs.

YAY Donna!

Deb, for some reason I thought you had a job, was it just seasonal?

Roberta, what happened with Liz?

Her crush sounds like a great guy so far! I hope it turns out that way. :)

By the time you get them trained for spring break time it will be school time again. [;)]

That does seem sensible. I'd rather buy bulbs than candy too

Welcome to the thread csl7037! I'm sorry to hear about the issues with your daughter. It's so heartbreaking for us as moms to see that. Linz went through it too till I moved her to a new school.
