Many prominent Democratic leaders are calling for Clinton to drop out of the race now, so the party can get behind one candidate - Obama. What do you think?

stamper_ben -> RE: Should Hillary drop out now and support Obama? (4/2/2008 9:13:00 AM)

I think they are trying to do damage control...

its_GO_time -> RE: Should Hillary drop out now and support Obama? (4/2/2008 9:45:52 AM)

I think it was Woodrow Wilson, commenting on Teddy Roosevelt, who was challenging W.H. Taft, as an independent, who said: "Never murder a man when he's committing suicide" Run Hillary Run!

As long as a candidate has a mathmatical chance, I say keep going.

It would be silly to drop out now, she isn't that far behind.

Political fortunes have been known to change nearly overnight (as in Obama, pre and post his reverend's racist rantings). She ought to stay in.

Jhud -> RE: Should Hillary drop out now and support Obama? (4/2/2008 12:10:36 PM)

No, for heaven sake, no!

Hillary should fight until the bitter end, until every delegate Super or otherwise is absolutely commited. Should should bite, kick, scratch, screech, cry, and any other thing she can think of until the convention acts decisively.

And if it doesn't go her way, then the Democratic Party isn't good enough or big enough for her, and she should go directly to the people as a third party candidate.

You go girl, you are makin' history here!

You know, I was just thinking about that this morning- I wonder whether the Democartic loser (be it Clinton or Obama) will try as a third party... and how will this affect the race?

I think Obama wouldn't- he can always try again in 4 years... but I cannot see Clinton just gracefully bowing out if defeated.

Jack, you have a warped way of thinking.

That's why I like you.

I'm almost 100% sure I heard a guy from Rasmussen say that Clinton has actually received more votes from Democrats than Obama has. It's independents and cross-over Republicans who've given Obama the edge. If true, that seems like more motivation to stay in. Do Democrats want to select their own candidate or let other people do it?

Well, I just figure that at his age, Johnny Mac needs all the rest he can get, and with Hil doing all the work for him, he can rest easy.

In fact, I think he is napping right now, and smilling in his sleep. [sm=icon_smile_faint.gif]

No...it's too much fun watching Bill tell the party to "chill out" (one can only imagine if the tables were turned what he would be saying)

IMO, the remaining undecided super delegates should stand up and be counted by the time ALL the primaries are finished.

cog41 -> RE: Should Hillary drop out now and support Obama? (4/2/2008 2:22:12 PM)

Hang in there Hitlery! Stay till the bloody end! Don't listen to the naysayers, the Obama bandwagon, the media, or anyone els!Till the dems are more divided, more discouraged, and maybe discarded.

This could and I predict it will get really ugly.

saved9201 -> RE: Should Hillary drop out now and support Obama? (4/2/2008 6:30:00 PM)

There's a theory going around, that Hillary knows it would take a miracle for her to win the nomination this year. By keeping this thing going, she's preparing for 2012 (McCain will be about 112 by then), by doing as much damage to Obama as possible, and hoping (privately of course) for a McCain victory over him in the fall.

inthysite -> RE: Should Hillary drop out now and support Obama? (4/2/2008 6:45:35 PM)

Actually I heard today that it is possible for Hillary to win the popular vote. If this happens then she can make a case to the Super Delegates that voting for her will actually be in line with the will of the people.

Some analysts believe that the Super Delegates would vote for Hillary if it could be done in a way that would seem legitimate.

henny -> RE: Should Hillary drop out now and support Obama? (4/2/2008 7:29:08 PM)

She's banking on a win in Pennsylvania. If she loses there (and polls have had her down lately) there will be no reason for her to stay in. I think most of the Democrat leaders are praying that she will lose, mostly because they want to avoid a drawn out fight.

I've seen polls that show her lead in PA is shrinking, but I've never seen a poll that shows her behind.

Yes, it's possible but not likely. Obama has a 700,000 vote lead. She would have to win PA really, really big.

NO No No!! I won't vote for her, but NO she should not drop out!! There is too much unknown about Obama and he could still put his foot in his mouth once too often, and turn his own party backers against him --- if Hillary drops out the Party could be is big trouble by not having anyone else running. I'm not a Democrat, but that's too scary even for me to think about.

I'm not all that familiar with the polling agency, so you can take it with a grain of salt, but this one has her behind 43 to 45:

http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/2008/04/obama-takes-lead-in-pennsylvania.html

But most polls show her lead steadily eroding. In this one she started with 52% in early march and her lead has dropped 1 or 2 percentage points every week. It now has her ahead 47 to 42:

You see if Hillary were to quit, we would miss out on Bill's tirades.....

_________________

Rachel Binah, a former Richardson delegate who now supports Hillary Clinton, told Bill how "sorry" she was to have heard former Clinton campaign manager James Carville call Richardson a "Judas" for backing Obama.

It was as if someone pulled the pin from a grenade.

"Five times to my face (Richardson) said that he would never do that," a red-faced, finger-pointing Clinton erupted. [Now which Bill are you going to believe?]

The former president then went on a tirade that ran from the media's unfair treatment of Hillary to questions about the fairness of the votes in state caucuses that voted for Obama. It ended with him asking delegates to imagine what the reaction would be if Obama was trailing by just 1 percent and people were telling him to drop out.

"It was very, very intense," said one attendee. "Not at all like the Bill of earlier campaigns."

When he finally wound down, Bill was asked what message he wanted the delegates to take away from the meeting.

At that point, a much calmer Clinton outlined his message of party unity.

"It was kind of strange later when he took the stage and told everyone to 'chill out,' " one delegate told us.

"We couldn't help but think he was also talking to himself."

Interesting -- I hadn't seen that one. Not sure what to think, since most have her leading. Is this the new trend, or is this poll just an outlier?
