Well, this is one area where I have VERY little training from my childhood! In fact, the last time my parents were here, I said something about teaching the kids how to do laundry & my mom asked when the 1st time I'd done laundry was. I said "when I went away to college" and in my head said "yeah & that's why I ruined so many clothes my freshman year"!! I love my mom immensely, but she really did do almost everything for me & I think it has hindered me as an adult. I really do want my kids to leave our home knowing how to take care of themselves & their own homes! I guess the struggle for me is that I was not really taught much myself. I need to make an effort at it, because it doesn't come naturally! We do have a cleaning system & they have daily chores & extra chores for each day of the month. I am in the process of revamping the system, so it has been very sporadic lately. I'm hoping to have it figured out in the next few weeks. Their daily chores include: making beds, unloading the dishwasher, feeding pets, setting/clearing the table & picking up toys Other chores include: cleaning up after the dogs (someone else called it poop patrol), garbage/recycling, vacuuming, cleaning their bathroom, dusting, folding laundry, sweeping/swiffering, Things I want to add: mowing the lawn (for our 13yo), doing the dishes, doing the laundry, some food prep & clean up and I'm sure I'll think of other things too! quote:
I also sometimes get guff from one of the boys when I ask them to do something that they feel is their brother's 'job'. But kiddo, your job is to do what I tell you and pitch in where you can because this is a TEAM and all the members have to work together! Jen - this reminded me of how many jobs I've had that the last line of the job description is "and other duties as assigned"![;)]
